A few months, I bought a $2500 Jetta at a small Easthampton car dealer named Gus. I was entitled to return the car within a month if anything serious was wrong with it. Shortly after, I notice the reverse gear is starting to malfunction and getting progressively worse as every time I would put it in reverse and hit the gas, the shift would pop out of gear. So I bring it back to Gus who -having integrity and being true to his word- says he'll get it fixed. So he calls Advanced Technical Repair and drops off my car. After about a week, my car is ready. Turns out the whole transmission needed to be replaced, which ran Gus -and I still have the receipt- exactly $998.71. (Remember, I paid $2000 for the car, which should tell you something about the Gus' character in comparison to owner of Advanced, as you will see shortly).

So, anyway, Gus, drops me off at Advanced, so that I can get my car. Everything seems fine until just a few days later when I find myself stuck in a driveway with no way to reverse because, guess what? The reverse was still popping out of gear despite the transmission was replaced. I then talk to Gus about this and he tells me that one of the mechanics had apparently dropped some kind of fluid on my transmission while installing it, but that maybe it's unrelated. He then says that he'll look into it. A few days later, I still haven't heard back so I call Advanced directly and speak to the owner. I tell him that the reverse gear is still popping out of place. He tells me this issue is pretty common in Jettas and that it might be due to the fact that a used transmission with the same issue was installed in the car.

I want to bring it in again, he consents. But before doing so I make sure that I don't have to pay it, seeing as how the problem hadn't been fixed. "Of course, no worries," he says. So I call Gus back and tell him about my conversation with Advanced, after which he arranges to drop my car off again, presumably to get his money's worth AND keep a customer happy, which I was very grateful for. About a week later, I have my car back. I don't know what was done, but was told to take it easy on the reverse and that the car should be fine. Butguess what? Yes, it happened again. I call Advanced once more to let him now that something really needs to be done about this. He tells me to bring it in. I do. He runs a diagnostic and after about an hour or so of tinkering, determined that there is a small piece that he needs to have shipped in that'll keep the gear from popping out in the future. He may have called this piece a bushel or something like that. He tells me that it'll take 1-2 weeks to arrive. There were some other issues he found, but I figured I'd have them fixed when I brought the car back in.

Three weeks later and several phone calls later, I've yet to hear back, so I call when I knew he'd be there. So we're talking and he let's me know that there piece is taking longer than expected but that it should be in in a few days. I'm like, okay, awesome, can we schedule a time to bring my car in then, to which he agrees. We set up a time and as we're talking he randomly breaks it to me that the dealer who had sold me the car, Gus, had just recently passed away! And obviously, I'm shocked. I mean, I had just spoken to him a few days ago. It was weird. Anyway, fast-forward to about a day or so before my new appointment with Advanced, I decide to call the owner to get some kind of estimate as to how much the other work is going to cost -remember, there were some other issues?- and to make sure he wasn't going to charge me for the part he had ordered. So he tells me that the reverse popping issue to be fixed was not going to be covered! I tell him that this is unacceptable, that the initial the initial 998 dollar problem had not been fixed, and I had to bring it in 3 times for the same issue with no resolution. Not to mention the fact that one of his mechanics had dropped some kind of fluid on my new "used" transmission. He says that he understands from a consumer perspective, but that it's a separate issue. I tell him that he could've initially just ordered the bushel piece and not have installed a faulty used transmission in my car. But he refuses to do it. So I tell him to do right by me or I will have to make sure people know what kind of shady business he's running. He tells me to do what I gotta do.

In summary, the first problem was never fixed. When something is broken, you don't fix it by replacing it with something else that is broken. What's worse is that, I hate to say it, but the owner took advantage of Gus's death, because anyone who's ever met Gus knows that he wasn't afraid to be fastidious and tell it like it is. Given how much he did to make me happy with the car, I highly doubt that Advanced would've gotten away with this sad service. So not only is this owner unscrupulous, but he's also an opportunist and I would suggest taking your building elsewhere.

Mark and his crew did an excellent job on my Jeep when the clock spring went in my steering wheel and they even ripped out my old alarm system that had decided to render my vehicle non-drivable at no charge either. I highly recommend them.

All members of Mark's team are willing and ready to explain what they are doing and sometimes they might even bring you into the garage to show you for yourself where your car is in need of help. This openness and honesty with their work reassures and comforts me. I know they are taking care of me and my car and not taking advantage of my lack of knowledge in regards to repairs and necessary maintenance on my car. Other important customer service points: My questions are always welcome, they squeeze me in when I am early and do everything they can to keep my costs down. In my humble opinion, there is no doubt that Advanced Technical Repair is the Valley's Best Repair Shop and I will never go anywhere else as long as I live here and Mark is open for business.

These guys are great. Easy to find location. Very accommodating. I called about an air conditioning problem late one day and they fit me in the next day. Fixed the problem at a great price. Did a little fix on a door lock for no charge, and also did a courtesy inspection. Polite, clear, helpful. Wow. We'll be back for sure.
