I worked at Dog and Cat Spa for about a year off and on as a animal care professional last year and I can tell you that the allegations that Sunday (the owner) does NOT snort lines of coke on the front counter with some of her employees from time to time is not true. Let me make that clear: If you are saying that Sunday and her employees ??do not? snort coke together, then you are incorrect. That is because she DOES do so. But in their defense, they usually do so before the store opens or after hours on their own time and they certainly don??t waste their blow on the animals and not all of the employees have partaken. This should clear up any suspicions on the matter and also shed some light as to why she (Sunday) seems utterly insane to anyone who??s spent a moment to talk to her in person or on the phone.

Furthermore, I can confirm that at least 2 dozen of the positive reviews given to Dog and Cat Spa at this forum were in fact written by Sunday??s employees at her request while she stood over their shoulders giving them helpful tips on how to write a positive review, this done, of course, in an effort to dilute the flood of bad reviews that have increasingly popped up all over the internet.

I worked at both locations, most recently at the Burnside store which I accurately predicted would be out of business within a year based on Sunday??s cocaine habit and the insanity that naturally flows from that. I should also state that Sunday takes about 4 valiums every night just to fall asleep and occasionally takes them in the morning presumably to steady her nerves from her stressful job as General Manager and owner of 2 and now only 1 store.

I am clean now and no longer take drugs with Sunday, and I wish her the best. My final prediction is that her Milwaukee store will be out of business within a year of today and you can take that to the bank!

You get what you pay for. My dog was there almost 5 hours and the haircut was choppy and uneven. Her hair was almost stringy. Really looked bad.
I was told the owner was trained by a master groomer tho was not one herself. I would never have known the difference between what she does and what a good groom is had I not done my homework after getting Fluffy back. I spoke with a "master groomer" and she told me that it is all in what is included in the service. The less you pay for, the less you get. Time is money and those who have low prices have high volume and can't do the quality work that should be done. My dog is a yorkie with a curly=ish coat. I guess if a dog is cage dried it is not a good thing. I had heard it was. She told me that drying helps remove stuff off the skin that even the best hand bathing can leave behind. She suggested I look for a place that uses a bathing system as it uses a fraction of the shampoo as hand bathing. My dog itched like crazy when she came home. I rebathed her. She also said coats when properly dried are straight and tangle free. This is the base for a great haircut. Once properly prepped(her word) the cut looks better and holds the style longer. (provided your dog does not swim in the Willamette River) The cage dried coats dry naturally and are not straightened and you get results like mine. Gross. This groomer was nice to offer so much information(much more than I included here) and never asked who had groomed my dog. i told her anyway.
Bottom line if you want your dog groomed poorly yet cheaply, this is the place. Nothing wrong with it. Cheap is as cheap does...If you want your dog to look good and be correctly groomed go elsewhere but expect to pay for it. I was quoted $58 for my 5lb yorkie. I am considering it to see the difference as I think it will be worth it. I want my dog to be comfortable AND look good

This same place is listed on citysearch 3 times. Check them all out. I've used them several times because it is close to my home, very clean, and the staff is very friendly to my dog. They always know her when she comes in.
HOWEVER....They always forget that we are coming, they forget to groom her, they forget when she is coming home. I would bring her in and they wouldn't have anything written down, or at least couldn't find it. They didn't collect payment from me twice until I reminded them. I used their shuttle service several times. I would come home expecting my dog to be home waiting for me, and they have forgotten to bring her home. Or, she is home but she is not groomed as requested. If you question Sunday, the owner, she gets very defensive. I got to where I was calling ahead to make sure they are coming, then calling to make sure that she was groomed, and that she was coming home on time. It got old! I can find another friendly place to take my dog. Very sad because the potential is there, but the management and processes are not there.

It is not a "green" company as far as I can tell. They use pinesol and bleach to clean with. I didn't see a single sustainable or recycled product there and it doesn't seem to be a goal of theirs.

I was unhappy with the owner who didn't treat her employees with much respect. If she can't treat people with respect how will she treat your dog?

I have done a lot of research about daycares and this is a middle of the road facility. A good one at that.
Cement for dogs has pros and cons. It is easy to clean. Mats while nice are porous which is not conducive to sterile cleaning. Breeding ground for bacteria. Liquid seeps between the mats as well. It is hard on joints, but some raised bed should give dogs a break from this as would raised platforms with single sheets of matting on them.
Keep in mind this is a business that caters to the middle class. It is not a top of the line facility nor should you expect perfection from them. They do not offer true spa services or lavish daycare/boarding. What they offer is an affordable groom without all the frills, clean low stress daycare, and basic boarding. Some may call it old school kennel boarding.
They have an exceptionally well educated owner and employ skilled, experienced staff. They are as green a company as you can find in this field and are all about the pet, not the fashion, or high dollar. You should recall the saying, "you get what you pay for." This company offers care and service between low cost and high end. Those who expect the high end service deserve to be disappointed as they are being unreasonable and unfair. Do your research BEFORE leaving your pet anywhere!

I've taken my shitsus there 3 times now and they always have perfect cuts. The girls are very nice and helpful and I can feel very confortable leaving them there even though there is a bunch of dogs there in the same area (large fencing). Lots of staff in cute matching scrubs. Never have to wait and they let me watch the grooming. When the daycare dogs get roudy they calm them down with "please and thank yous". Sounds funny but it seems to work. The selection of food and holistic remedies is very helpfull. They have never missed nails or the ears. I have never seen or smelled anything bad.

Just had my dog groomed at the Milwaukie store by Amber. Was the best hair grooming I have ever had on my toy poodle. My little girl is all white and you can see everything the groomers do. When they brush to hard or are rough with my girl in anyway. Everyone I have taken her so far has some how nicked or burnt my baby. Not a mark on her, I could tell Amber was so gentle. Ya, sure some of them have given me a free groom, but that's not what I wanted. I wanted my little girl to be gently groomed. I got that here and the cut was perfect! She was also happy when I picked her up, not shaking and crying every time when I pick her up from everywhere else. I have finally found a groomer I can trust with my baby. The front desk girl was very sweet as well.

My dog has been doing slumber parties for over 3 years here. I think out of the 50 baths she has gotten the nails were missed once, but immediately done the next day with no charge for anything. I have enjoyed all the services for some time and have tried other places but no one seems to beat the price or care. Their hours are so convenient and I love my report cards, even though they seem to be the same a lot. I have never seen any drama and everyone seemed to be happy. I know my dog is. Brittany and Amber have been there a long time and I can always trust their smiling faces. I was leery of a couple people that worked here but every-time I got that feeling they seemed to be gone, quickly. Seems to me the owner does know what she is doing. She weeds out the bad and holds onto the good very well. As hard as she works I know my dog will never be sitting in scrimmage and will get the training and care I pay for. No, I was not asked to post anything. I referred a friend to Dog and Cat Spa and she told me to check out this site, she was told about it from her groomer, but regardless she goes here now. Seems the entire industry knows about this drama and I don't think they deserve this. Anyway hang in there. You can't please everyone, but you guys do a good job trying.

Cons: gossip

I have lived in this neighborhood for 40 years I have walked into this store 5 times to buy dog food, 2 times they were out, once the bag was out of date next they stopped carrying the brand and that was last time. Every time I entered the store the smell of dog urine made me sick, I chose not to return. My sister took her schnauzer there a couple weeks ago for 2nd time she said there were scabs on him a few days after and he was acting very afraid & timid since they brought him home. I am desperate for a local groomer however will not even walk into this shop again..

This should be pretty simple. Upset employees equals unsatisfied customers. I'm sure not many other businesses on this site have the issue of overwhelmed and upset employees lashing out the only way they can. I come to my current job everyday thankful that I am not walking into that store anymore. I have a stable employer, my job isn't constantly being threatened, and I don't go home crying. My boss says thank you, good job, and asks how I'm doing, all things I never heard from Sunday. The point of this is just to say that you may be the most amazing animal care taker ever, but it's the humans who can and WILL speak if you don't treat them with respect. You are not God's all mighty gift to doggy daycare so chill out and relax everyonce in awhile.

I am responding to the last post. I am so sorry that you made the decision to not bring your animal to us for the best care possible. We are one of the few places that care for animals and have a boarding license through the county. We have no claims with the B B B nor any claims with the state. We work hard to make sure that all animals that stay with us have the one on one expert care your animal deserves. I would love to send you a detailed email about the fiasco this site has caused. Almost all of the negative reviews are false or are extremely exaggerated. We have never posted a fake positive reviews. Please email me at sunday@dogandcatspa.coooom. Please give us a chance to explain our side. This review site does not allow us the space to do so.
Thank you

Ok, Miss K from helll, give it a rest. I have been working for Sunday for a couple years now and she has never yelled at anyone. She was very fair with you even though you were the worst groomer ever. Sunday had to fully refund at least 10 of your "grooms" in the 3 weeks that you "worked" here. We are still getting complaints about your grooming. I thought Sunday was insane to try to work with you. She told me she felt sorry for you and wanted to teach you how to be a talented groomer. I saw her on many occasion show you (in a very nice way) how to brush, wash and clip dogs. Your just mad that she finally broke down and asked you to do a contract stating that you would be responsible for your horrible grooming. Why would you not sign it. I would. I don't sukk. I talked to your instructor at the dog grooming school and she said you were the worst student she had ever had. She said you were arogant and lazy and she could not wait to get you out. Have you not noticed how W and R will not hire you back? You are dangerous and reckless and now you are being spiteful. Sunday does not deserve that, she works hard to make sure we all get paid well. She has always been more than fair, even when employees come in and stand around for 2 hours and do nothing then leave, "sick". I know you did that several times because I had to do your cancelled grooms the next day. I also redid most of your baths and cuts. Most of these customers have been coming to us for 3 years so luckily they knew that these mistakes would be taken care of. Give it a rest. You know you are posting on here because it's the only way to truly hurt the owner of the Dog and Cat Spa. Ego can't make you talented, Miss K She surpent. Funny how you seem to have so much time to post on here at least 7 times now. Didn't anyone hire you yet? I doubt it. You succck. Leave Sunday alone or I will call every grooming place in Oregon and tell them how crazy you are and you will never be hired. Miss Suemenow!

Cons: Owner is too trusting

I am the parent of a former employee, and find the business owner's misuse of this site to be shameful. For the record, all the complaints in the reviews on this site were verified by my child to me many times. The owner is outrageously abusive, rude and out of control towards her employees, screams at them, writes innapropriate memos to them, and her business practices are questionable. Having heard what I have from my child, I would never take my loved pet to one of these two shops for any kind of care whatsoever. My child was also asked to write a fake review to counteract complaints that enraged the business owner. Enough said.

As a previous employee, I have looked over the reviews here on city search and found truth and utter lies. So for once, lets set it straight. The dog and cat spa is NOT a bad place for your dogs, cats, or even the occasional tiny furry friend or what have it. The facilities are clean and spacious. I know its clean, because I personally have mopped, scooped, and scrubbed it myself. Yes there will be dogs barking and playing. hence its called "daycare" You wouldn't bring a 5 year old child to daycare and expect them to sit quietly all day long, so don't expect it of your pet. The pets come first. Everyone works as a team to get everything done. Its a hard job, and not one that I was very well suited for, as I do not share the same passions and dreams. Sunday the owner expects a lot of her employees, but she has to, If she didn't things wouldn't get done, and the business is her livelihood. So here's the truth. Dogs will be dogs, that means, they poo, they urinate, they bark, they run around, they smell, and we love them anyway. Thats life. So even though I no longer work at the dog and cat spa, that doesn't mean that its not a great place. Perhaps these other X-employees should point the finger at themselves for once and ask themselves why they worked there in the first place, ask themselves why they were fired or quit. Deep down, I think we all know that the blame rest's on ourselves. So Sunday, your a great person with a great dream, unfortunately I don't share it, but hang in there I'm sure other's do. If you haven't been to the dog and cat spa, I encourage you to go, you might just find exactly what your looking for!

Cons: 1 phone line, webcam's can be finiky

I read through these and I realize that both the positive things and negative things are true to an extent. I am not ashamed to admit I am a previous employee, but a current customer. I have to admit that the services and prices are great, while there are things about the facility that are negative, and yes, maybe the owner is harsh on employees at time. But what people don't realize is what personal things others go through. If someone is stressed out or going through a hard time, or opening a new store, it's going to cause stress and that will make people snappy and tense. There are somethings listed like the place being smelly or what not, and you have to realize that when you open a new store, it's not that easy to find people to work at your standards and keep things the way you want. Yes, this job is a hard job, and it is very tedious especially after doing it over and over and over, and at time it can be overwhelming. The owner does have a wonderful heart for people and animals, but in the business world it may not always come off that way. Her grooming and her choice in groomers is AMAZING, and what people do not realize is that their pet is NOT always a perfect angel. Animals are always moving around and not working with the groomers, hence you get accidents, and believe me they happen more often then you think! The daycare may only be indoors, but when you think about it, you should see all the things that the animals are being protected from, there are so many things that could go wrong with letting them outside. For example, and escape artist, there is always at least ONE dog who has to escape and make you chase him....wouldn't you rather them escape INSIDE then out with cars?! I would! All I can say, is give this place a chance, not everyone will like it for whatever reason, don't diss on it till you've been there and have experienced it MORE than once. Before you judge based on personality, put yourself in someone else's shoes.

my review on why i will never use this place!

6. although they are very good about not yelling at your dog. instead they will squirt it in the face a bunch of times with a water bottle by request of the owner in order to stop them from barking. also note. it NEVER works. and i HATED them doing it.

7. i know for a fact that she replies to city search under different names to give herself a better review. i bet you can guess which ones they are. hint: it's where she talks about how wonderful she is and her two year community college degree she still brags about. SHE EVEN OFFERED ME A FREE GROOM IF I POSTED FOR HER. ugh.

8. the owner cares enough about your dog to give it kisses but not enough to take them for walks. these animals stay cooped up for days on end. what bothered me the most was leaving them in the backroom to bark endlessly without giving them an outlet.

9.this may not apply to the customer themselves, however, i think it's important to know that she treats her employees like complete dog poo. this includes screaming at them. calling them when they are off the clock to banter about their performance. leaving multiple negative sticky notes. not giving breaks. and not saying THANK YOU for the hard work they really do. i really felt bad for them.

10. most importantly. your dog did not cut it's ear in a dog fight. the fences are just poorly built.

the owner is just so stressed and burnt out that she is losing touch with everything. The groomers and staff do love your animal. they just have to deal with this vile burn out...but the prices are fair. i just want EVERYONE TO KNOW THEY HAVE POOR BUSINESS ETHIC.

thanks for reading.

p.s. all the reviews below this one? FAKE. any person who reads can tell they are written by the same person...couldn't come up with a better description than 'beautiful place'? keep trying, Sunday. you'll fool em one day, lady.

Ok, first of all. Wow. I'm not sure what's going on with the person posting all of these things about how the employees are supposedly treated like pooop, and all of that, but seriously, is that the best idea? I don't know how big this doggy day care industry is (I guess its getting bigger each day, because I keep reading about it), but still... there goes your recommendation to work at another place in town, lol! Anyways, I've been to dog and cat spa just once so far and actually thought it was pretty cool. I didn't see anyone yelling at anyone else, or squirting water or anything like that. What I DID see was a large daycare area being mopped at the time (so I know it was clean). Also, the employees were very friendly (I don't remember names, sorry) and they didn't seem like they were unhappy working there at all. My Rotty (Max) was fine when I dropped him off for daycare, and once again just fine when I picked him up. No harm, no foul. In fact, I have no idea what this person who used to work at this place is even talking about, but like I said I don't know this industry. All I'm saying is that I went there, I liked it, and I can't think of anything bad to say about it. I don't know how long this place has been around, but it seems good to me.

Pros: E Burnside on the way to work for me, so convenient

Cons: not sure. I'd need to go again to find them

If it wasn't for the fact that I had family visiting for an extended weekend, I never would have thought about using a dog kennel before, but now I'm glad that I did! I had the feeling that with my in-laws visiting, as well as my brother and his kids, our two labs wouldn't be able to take it, so I decided to find a good animal boarding facility. I definitely found one with Dog & Cat Spa! I only needed my two dogs to stay for the weekend, really (which they did), but now I'm starting to think that I'll be taking them there more often. When I got them back, they had obviously had a lot of exercise and played with the other dogs, because they literally didn't move off the couch for a day. There are a lot of other services at this place that I haven't used yet, but I'm looking forward to, because if the grooming and training that they offer is as good as the daycare they give, sign me up!

Cons: not sure

I just recently boarded my very sick (just out of dove lewis) dog at the dog and cat spa. She needed 7 units of insulin at 7 am and 7 pm. Being that the owner and several of her staff are animal nurses I decided to board my dog there, not completly trusting my regular pet sitter to do this or on time as she is a student and has a busy schedule. I asked the employees for specific feed times and play times. All this was done to a t and the owner said that she would be the one doing the medication on the weekends before and after they were closed. My dog was happy and clean when I picked her up. I may try the rest of my furry friends there as I travel at least once per month and can not rely on my pet sitter all the time. They go above and beyond the call of duty and the owner helped my dog with a better diet that she believes will help my now diebetic dog. In my search for a place I looked up all the media on Pet smart and Petco and found that they have actually snuffed dogs in their grooming area by leaving them unatended. The boarding at Petco also had such a list of nightmares and claims on the Better Bus B. Dog and cat spa had nothing horrible on them. I don't know of any business where the owner can be reached 24/7. what a releif.

i've been a loyal customer for awhile and i feel as though i need to share a few insights that made me leave this place once and for all.

1. my dogs were not be fed on time. i caught them many times when i came in for a surprise visit. this primarily is in the morning. 7am feeding? nope. try around 10am. especially on weekends. the staff do their best while being yelled at.

2. also my pet was sitting in it's feces and urine till around this time as well. i made a complaint but it was ignored.

3. want to know why the webcam only goes on from 11am to 1pm? because this is the only time you will be seeing anyone playing with your dog. the owner told me this is all the web time they could afford? huh?

4. want to shave down your cat? i hope you don't like his/her nipples. two of my cats came back from their last groom missing a few of theirs.

5. the owner talked to me about how she knows everything about my animals making me feel as though i was a child...which was my turning point.

I brought my two cats and two greyhounds in for boarding a grooming over the Christmas holidays. The owner and staff we wonderful! They were so polite and so gracious about my huge dogs needing more space than normal dogs. When I have to leave the animals there for additional time, there wasn't any problem at all. The owner, Sunday, was so kind and gracious about her prices and the dogs and cats came out of the grooming section looking beautiful! They were so gentle and so thorough that my animals haven't looked as soon before or since that day! I cannot recommend Dog and Cat Spa more and will absolutely be using them again.

I just picked up my four Massive dogs from the Dog and Cat spa. They were there for 16 days do to a family illness. I have never boarded them before and a couple of them are pretty old. I was constantly worried about them so I checked on them everyday on there camera system on the Dog and Cat Spas web site. How conforting was that?. There they were, by themselves like I had asked, just mulling around and the to young ones chewing on each other and playiing. Looked like they gave plenty of soft beds for my old arthritic one Bonzo. He just slept, like he always does and it seemed to very clean. I watched one go potty and in 2.5 seconds there was an attendant on it. They seem to have 3-4 attentants in the exersize area all the time and not too many dogs. Very conforting. I was worried about the cost and the owner gave me a deal for all four of them. I could not afford the groom, but they were brushed and clean when I picked them up. I asked the front desk girl if they had been bathed or something but she said no that they liked being brushed so they brushed them, wow, I have 4 huskies what a job that is and no charge? I also got a report card on their dayly stuff. The ate all there food? I was so worried that they would go on a hunger strike. Thank goodness there is places like this when tragety hits. I feel like I owe them more for there hard work and attentavnis. I have hired pet sitters in the past but everytime it was a dissapointment. Medication was not given (counted the pills), one got out the front door (neihbor called me) poopy and urine all over my house and they are potty trained, clearly not let out, missed feeding and my door was left unlocked. I will now only trust leaving my dogs with anyone else but the Dog and Cat spa. Love the skylights by the way! Beautiful place and people!

What a great place. Has everything. Good customer service. Very informitive about food and behavior. Dog was clean and tired after daycare. Will by a daycare package next week! Lulu boxer/mix will be so happy. She was able to meet new friends the first day even though she is normally a scaredy cat. They took it slowly and I got to watch her meet her new friends on the web cam! Showed all my friends at work. Lots of attendants in the daycare. Place was very clean. Love the shop cats!!!!!! Have not been long enough to know if they are good every day so I give them 4 stars. May upgrade in a couple months if they hold true to their work.

I do apologize if you where not happy with the groom, even though we (store?) (groomer?) gave your dog (name?) two hair cuts to accommodate your needs. I always suggest that if you bring in a photo of a cut you like (especially if you have never been to a groomer) we will do our best to match the pic. I can offer you a full refund for the bath, brush out, nail trim, gland expression, breath freshener and the two cuts we (supposedly) did. I would call you and offer this but I have no idea who you or dog is, as it is not stated in the review. Please feel free to call us at either location and receive your full refund. (503) 477-7890 (Burnside) (503) 654-8743 Milwaukie. Once again I would like to reiterate that many of these negative posts on here are fake. I am not even sure if this one was an actual customer. Let me remind everyone reading that we would not have been able to open a second facility if the demand for our care were not there. It is not a fluke that we have many wonderful devoted customers and once again I am honored for their patronage. The very few times that a real customer has had any complaint we have been more than happy to rectify the situation. In my heart with all the hard work that we all do I do not feel we deserved to be regarded in a negative light. Granted, no one or business is perfect but we do our best to offer the best service possible and to learn and grow from our mistakes. I would have never opened an animal care facility with out the Animal medical, grooming, training, behavioral and nutritional knowledge it takes to run a full service facility such as the ones I offer. Also, if your dog came in for his or her first haircut, how could he be going to doggie daycare like Dogs dig it, in your other review? How come they did not do your groom? Does the dog not have to be 5 months for rabies? Oh by the way it's official (Burnside is the largest indoor dog daycare!!!!) 7500 sq ft. Sorry.
Thank you for your time

Been going to Sunday's stores for over 3 years now. I have had nothing but satisfaction every time. I feel that they treat my dog as their family. I'm afraid of telling too many people about the new store because I may have to wait an extra day or two to get my furry friend groomed or maybe they may end up being full for boarding like the Webster one is sometimes. Even after I moved to Laurelhust over a year ago I kept driving out to the Milwaukie store because my dog missed them. I'm so pleased she opened another right by my new house. We now stop in several times a week to hang out in the cookie lounge and just watch some cable tv. My new (old) house does not have the hook ups. A couple times now Sunday has played Milo and Otis on the bube tube for my pooch. He loves it. He also loves the fresh baked cookies she slips him. They have taught me how to do a very professional groom on my self groom and he looks great. Love how much time they spend with each and every animal. They make the rest look like amutares and maybe that's what the competition is worried about,
Thanks
Tim

I'm sorry, but I read all of the "great" reviews and I'm not sure if we're talking about the same place. I took my pup there for his first grooming. I thought he looked "just okay" when I picked him up. Of course, because it was the first time, I didn't know any better. Well, I took him back again because I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me and when I picked him up I admit he smelled great, but he looked as though he had just been barely brushed and just got a short trim on the nails. That's it. I even had to ask them to cut more off because at the rate his hair grows, I already know I'll be taking him somewhere else in less than a month (I even had a very honest dog owner friend of mine tell me she couldn't tell he'd even been to a groomer). I could have done what they did and saved my money. I advise that you do it yourself or, better yet, find another groomer.

I just discovered this place a few months ago and have to admit that I LOVE this place. It's clean, the employees always greet me with a smile, the price is right and the service is excellent. Quite frankly, I couldn't believe how much they do for my VERY large (and tough to groom) dog...and all at a price that's right. I most certainly recommend these guys highly.

After reading the reviews of the dog and cat spa and considering bringing my cat in to this place then seeing all the unhappy customers and seeing that the employees write good reviews just to make the spa look good, I myself would never bring my pet there....luckily i know about city search and do my research. also after reading the husband of the owner wrights reviews just to make the spa look good I really would not bring my animal to this place.

I just went to post a review on this site for a resteraunt that I went to last night. Since my account on here keeps a log on everything I have posted I decided to look at my other reviews and see how far down the line they had been bumped. Most of them had not moved. On this one I am about 10 down now. I just have to say feel very sorry for the owner of this place and all the wierd stuff going on on this city search thing. I tried to post again and it wanted to overide my last post for this place. So I created another account with city search, this time with a fake email address! The owner's husband is right! You can post again and again and not be a real person! I had no idea.
Dog and Cat spa was nothing but perfect and the owner was very nice and caring. I don't know why there is so much drama on here. Maybe because she has a good thing (mabye the best) and people are worried and or jealous. Very immature! I am a customer and have and always will give them a five star! I just had my dogs groomed there AGAIN and everyone was so pleasant and my pets looked WONDERFUL! I am traveling again soon and I only TRUST this place to take care of my feeble and needy babies, again. So let's grow up a little people! Leave this poor hard working lady and her family alone. If people were saying bad things about me that were not true I would hope that my husband would come to my defense. This all sounds like a competitor or an immature X-employee posting fake stuff over and over. Now I don't know if I should believe any review on any site because I have been to this place time and time again and I don't see how any of the negative reviews could be true or even close to the truth. I believe all the five stars and none of the others.
This all silly and wierd and I know that the owner and her employees and stores are FABULOUS! My babies miss you already! Hang in there girl this can't last forever!

Pros: Great parking, always have room

Cons: this site

Hey, if you're a disgruntled former employee of this business, now you have more time on your hands to go back to school and get those English and grammar lessons you're obviously so badly in need of. You one time only posters, give me a break. You obviously just have some sort of personal vendetta you need to get over. This is a legitimately good business. You want to find more genuine and un-biased reviews? Why not look at something OTHER than Citysearch which (given that they don't follow up on who's posting or how often) is a total and complete joke.

Pros: The Burnside location smells great!

Cons: Ex-employees who can't spell to save their lives

This review isn't for the grooming of dogs and cats, it for the mistreatment of the employees of this unstable owner. She is very abrasive , yells and harrasses her employees to the point of tears. I know a person who had the unpleasant experience of working for this woman. If she treats the animals anything like she treats her employees, I would stay far away from this place! I can't beleive that anyone would put up with a employer like that in this day and age! I would have liked to not pick any stars, but the site wouldn't let me.

I just wanted to thank all of my wonderful customers for posting the positive reviews. Without the 30,000 + customers that I have had an honor serving, I would not have been able to create my second new store.
I would also like to thank the last poster of the mediocre review. That's the kind of review a business can build from. Yes, dogs can get a little stinky and we WERE using our environmentally friendly cleansers. But, because of his post and a few other comments we have decided to go back to our normal hospital cleansers. We pride ourself on being good to the earth and all the animals on it.
We take the care of the animals very seriously and want to give only the best care possible (most of us went to college to learn about our field). Between the 20 employees we collectively have at least 180 years of professional animal experience!
Our goal is to open a training rescue to work with teenagers from ALL economic backgrounds and teach them the realities of animal care so they don't become the future neglecters of animals. It is of my opinion that through education we can lower the amount of animals surrendered to shelters. We hope to borrow dogs from rescues and them return them trained and socialized so they can find good loving homes faster!
Everything the animals do at my Dog and Cat Spas are always closely monitored and thoroughly cared for. I offer only the BEST at the most AFFORDABLE prices. We are completely hassle free, no check in check out times. No extra charges. Everything is straight up. Our goal is to make your life easier and the cost of your animal reasonable. Don't forget!!!! ...WEB CAMS and our hybrid SHUTTLE!
Please, email me and I can give you references for the positive ones and my side for the exaggerated negative posts, real or not. Once again it has been an honor serving you and for anyone new, we are more than happy to give you a free tour and we welcome you to our loving and immaculate facilities.
Thank you so much!

So, I just wanted to make an observation of the different review on this particular place. All you see are 1stars (obviously from upset customers), and 5stars (from a handful of happy customers--maybe, and definitely THE OWNER or her staff).

I took my puppy here and had a so-so experience. I didn't get a great vibe from the staff. The place smelled pretty bad... like a very strong urine odor. I mean most doggy daycares aren't delightful in the smell department, but this was pretty bad.

I liked how puppies get a special package there, with a free bath and discounted prices. The grooming seemed fine to me, but I've never been to a groomer before. He's not really the type of pup that gets groomed anyway, so I might not be the best judge.

The owner seemed pretty flighty, and non-concerned with too much. I was hesitant to leave my puppy, and I was hoping for some type of understanding and assurance on her end, and I definitely didnt get it. She just took him and put him with the rest of the dogs, before I had a chance to say goodbye to him. It was sorta weird.

So, basically nothing in particular went wrong at this place, but I just had a weird vibe.
And I definitely think the reviews on this site aren't accurate. I think the average rating would be A LOT lower if the owner or staff weren't writing good reviews about themselves.

I felt compelled to write a review both as a 1 (and only 1) time client and in response to the obvious abuse of the city search review system. I brought my cat to the Burnside location and was very disturbed not only of the smell of the facility but also the rudeness of the staff and the quality of the groom. When I came on here (great service by the way) to find another groomer that I felt more comfortable with my husband and I were pretty surprised at the postings we read here which were so obviously from the owner herself or her employees. Shame on you. Why don't you respond to the post instead of making up reviews to counteract negative ones. I do give you credit with the last one, at least you admit who you are. I wish I had seen the city search posting funny business earlier this would have saved myself alot of headache. If your wife is so upset she should look at her business and what these clients are saying instead of going on the defensive. Maybe a good 2nd hand person will solve some problems. You come off as overworked and stessed and that is never a good combination if you are in the customer service field as a restaurant owner myself I know. Just a note to potential clients: go to the kennel a few times and ask alot of questions!

My 2 year old golden retriever is VERY special to me. I would never even consider entrusting him to anyone's care without having the utmost confidence in them. I travel once a month for 4-6 days at a time and leave him with the team at Dog & Cat Spa. I have nothing but the highest respect for them. They love Andy and show it each time I leave him there. Andy loves to Dog & Cat Spa and everyone there has always shown him tremendous affection. I recommend The Dog & Cat Spa to anyone that loves their dogs as much as I do mine!

The staff at the Burnside store is, in a word, AMAZING!!!
We have been trying over the past year to find the right fit for our dog. He is high energy and loves to play with anything that moves (dogs, cats, leaves, anything). We brought him in one day for a trial daycare before a four day boarding session. When we picked him up from the trial, we were given a report card and tour of the facilities. The staff was caring, understanding and patient with our energetic dog. Kodi loves to go to daycare and is so excited that he gets to go a few days a week. The staff and owner know us by name and they make us feel incredibly welcome when we walk in the door. They make it efficient and easy to drop off our dog and are always willing to talk to us about how his day was. We are so thankful to find a place full of caring and talented people. We recommend everyone bring their dogs and cats there for a fun and safe experience.

Cons: Nothing!!

First of all, the user "nosnittpat" should be absolutely ASHAMED of themselves for writing what is obviously a completely FALSE and backstabbing review. Your dog "almost died"? Your dog had a temperature of 106? How about some details, such as your name and the dog's name? That's what I thought... a complete falsehood. Can you give us the name of the doctor who saw your animal at Banfield Hospital, as well as the record of the physical check-up? Didn't think so. The fact that you've only reviewed ONE businesses also says you're a complete fake. Citysearch is incorrect in saying that there's a vet on site. Dog & Cat Spa claim nowhere on their site or at their business that they have a vet on site, yet the owner has voluntarily driven animals to hospitals on more than one occasion at the SLIGHTEST indication that the animal is in some sort of physical distress. How DARE you even make such statements about a quality animal care facility such as Dog & Cat Spa. The owner of both the Milwaukie and Burnside locations works over 70 hours a week, and bends over backwards to make sure that customers are satisfied. I know this, because the owner is my wife. How does it make you feel to know that my wife comes home in tears after a 14 hour grueling workday because of the SCATHING and FALSE review that you wrote? It's people like YOU that make her question why she's in this business. She's a small business owner and a human being who is more than willing to work with you if you've had a legitimately less than outstanding experience. Nothing hurts an animal care worker more than a false accusation about an animal "almost dying." How dare you. How about you stand up for yourself and actually get in touch with HER and express your dissatisfaction instead of posting this SLANDER on Citysearch? Moreover, Citysearch should be ashamed for not having a checks and balances system to keep people from signing up under multiple fake addresses to do this sort of thing.

As an employee of the Dog & Cat Spa for over six months, I'm writing in defense to some of these negative comments. We care, from the bottom of our hearts for each and every animal that comes through our door. Whether they're here for grooming, boarding, daycare, or just to shop around, we pay close, special attention to each dog (or cat!) and love them like they are our own! When dogs or cats are boarding here or come in on a regular basis for daycare or grooming, we develop a bond with them. We always try to the best of our ability to get to know each and every animal and we always make sure all of their needs are not only met, but exceeded. Our owner has several years of experience (I can't even begin to list all her credentials!) and has a very hands-on approach at both of her facilities, ensuring that all employees are giving each animal the very best care and attention possible. Bring your animal to us today... both locations will provide a clean, safe, loving enviornment for your furry friend!

I came in with my dachshund one rainy afternoon and noticed that there were a number of dogs all
having fun together. The Dog and Cat Spa immediately felt like a friendly place. The owner greeted me
warmly and very soon we discovered a number of common interests - not only the welfare of my dog but
standards of care everywhere, animal rights, quality of pet foods after the scare of tainting -- the owner has really done her research about nutrition and was able to tell me a small notebook of things I hadn't known
before. My dog has stayed with Dog and Cat Spa three times so far, and each time I have been cordially greeted and told how my dog spent the day. The owner is concerned about interactions - she is also a trainer and knows how to spot the slightest tendency toward antisocial behavior. The Spa reminds me of good childcare. The employees are cheerful and seem happy to be working there. They have indicated that their owner is fair and the hardest-working of the lot, sometimes getting up at 4 AM to make sure that the four-legged clients are well cared for. The Burnside spa is a young business, but they are doing so well
to correct any initial issues. Usually it could take years to arrive at the standard of excellence that the owner and her staff have attained. The owner is a complete idealist. I wish her the best of success and plan to continue to send my pets to her.

Pros: The lounge for customers at Burnside - books for browsing, cookie bar :-)

Cons: Customer waiting area at Milwaukie is somewhat small - but can't be changed.

My mother currently has a caregiver who comes to her home often, and we were sort of relying on this person to also take care of her pets. It's something that I myself have tried to do also, but she has 3 cats and a rather high strung terrier, so it can be tough on me as well. I hadn't really thought about the idea of day care until a friend of mine recommended the Dog & Cat Spa. So I decided to give it a shot, and was really happy with the results. Now I board the cats at the facility when we have too much going on at our home, and the dog can get all of his energy out at daycare during the day. I think that the thing that I like the best about this place is that they offer this shuttle service. I don't know if other places do this or not. If not, they sure should, because I think it's a great idea! The owner actually came to our house in her Prius and picked up all 3 cats and the dog. You pay a little bit more, but it totally saved me the time of going there myself. The shuttle service thing might be a good option for people with really busy schedules, or an elderly relative who they're taking care of in their home, such as myself.

I go on business trips at least once or twice a month for my work, and am sometimes away for a week or more. I have tried other daycare facilities, but every time I picked up my dog (A Golden/Lab mix) he seemed a little out of sorts. I gave Dog And Cat Spa a try recently and was really pleased with the results. My puppy seemed in great spirits and had obviously gotten some good exercise while he had been there. Another nice thing was that the employees were very forthcoming with details as to how my dog did while he stayed there. Like, how well he did in the kennel, how he played with others, etc... It's like they actually took the time to actually pay attention to my dog and make sure that he was having a good stay. To me, that speaks volumes. I'm in international sales for business, so I know all about customer service. I was also impressed by their clean facility on Burnside, as well as their extensive boutique of pet clothing, food and other items. I have plans on getting away for Spring Break, for pleasure this time, and I will definitely be using the services of Dog And Cat Spa again.

When I called the Dog and Cat Spa I did give the name of both the doctor at Banfield and the doctor at the Emergency Clinic in Tualatin. I did give my name. Our dog did almost die. There was no response from the facility. Very simple. I am not a disgruntled ex-employee or the relative of one. I am, however, a very disgruntled ex-customer. I feel no need to reveal the names of my pet's vet on a public forum. I'm glad you are passionate about your wife's business--but understand the reason I "Dare" to "slander" the place is our dog was not taken care of and our concerns were given no weight at all. My review was not fake--it was an account of our experience with this business. I do not know your wife and doubt that any of the people I interacted with at the facility were her. We paid for a service, did not receive it, incurred more costs due to that lack of service and received no explanation of why/how it happened. We just had a really poor experience with this business not your wife.
I do admire you for defending your wife against some very suspicious "reviews" but mine is not of that ilk.

Pros: Very passionate proponents like "DJGustav"

Cons: Our dog almost died

I want to start this off by saying that Im a total cat lover, and its been tough to find a place that is as nice to kitties as Dog & Cat spa. I have a persian and a siamese, so theyre both sort of high maintennance cats, but the persian can be a grooming nightmare. Up until now, I hadn't been able to find a place that could groom my cat as well as Dog & Cat Spa. Other places would sort of look at her and try to send me somewhere else. What I was impressed with at Dog & Cat Spa was that the owner (Sunday) was there when I came in and she told me straight up about what needed to be done with my cat. I opted for the "lion cut" which meant that a lot of the hair had to be cut pretty short, which I was ok with. Oh, and the great thing too was that Sunday was able to give my cat the cut AND bathe her with very little problems, which was very nice. to be honest I can't think of many places that are able to give a cat a haircut and a bath. I thought that only dogs got that, but I was wrong, because Dog & Cat Spa can do both! I guess that's why it's not just "dog spa" right? Anyways, i really recomend this place, because they're great with cats (and dogs) and I'm for sure going to use them for boarding my cats for spring break. you should too!

Pros: they do cats!

Cons: a bit of a drive, but worth it

I have an Afghan named Chelsea who, for the longest time, was a little skittish around other people. We decided to board her at the Dog And Cat Spa over President's Day Weekend, and were surprised and elated when we came to get her a few days later. Not only had she gotten along great with the other dogs there, but she seemed generally happier as opposed to us leaving her at home for the weekend and having a friend come and take care of her. Another nice thing was the fact that I was contacted a couple of times that weekend by the owner of the facility asking me about my dogs behavior around other dogs, and if she had any certain allergic reactions to food. That, in my opinion, was going above and beyond. The owner seems to really keep up with the nuances and health needs of the animals there. Given that she's also an animal behaviorist, we're considering classes on getting Chelsea more comfortable around people that she doesn't know. The facility itself is very large, modern and kept spotless at all times, but again, what really struck me was the fact that the owner and the employees that work there genuinely CARE about the animals that they're taking care of. That really speaks volumes. I've already booked Chelsea for an extended stay during Spring Break, and I have no doubt that we'll be using Dog And Cat Spa for other needs such as food and treats (of which they have an outstanding variety) for our somewhat finicky dog.

Pros: They keep up with the animals behavior and health and let you know what's going on.

Cons: None I can think of

I recently boarded my chocolate lab with these people. I dropped him off Friday afternoon healthy as can be, and got a call Sunday morning saying that my dog was sick. I was out of town, so I sent a friend to pick him up, the only thing the gal at the counter was worried about was if I was going to be able to pay my friend back, like she was really wanting to call me and get my credit card number over the phone. When my friend took my dog to the ER the Dr. called the dog spa and asked for a step by step of what happened, the staff member said sorry our fax machine is broke. The Dr. said you better go next door and use a fax, or have someone drive the report to me and they finally went next door and faxed it, probably pretty tough to do since they are in the same parking lot as Safeway. My dog had severe dehydration and was diagnosed with a stress related GI tract infection, and kennel cough and spent 24 hrs in the ICU. This was 14 days ago and this morning I called the owner to thank her for caring enough about my dog to take time out of her busy day to call and see if my dog was even still alive. So 36 hrs in that place was enough for my companion and way too much for any other dog. Theres got to be very few places worse than this one. Think twice before you do any business with these people.

The Dog and Cat Spa are great, the employees are very kind and so helpful. Other day cares and spas for your babies arent any better, cement floors or mcuh easier for cleaning up accidents, they make sure they are well fed and cleaned and get time to play with the other dogs and there is always someone to watch and mae sure the dogs play nice. Accidents also happen, sometimes dogs get fiesty and may get a little soap in their eyes it should not be blamed on the people who are running the business because they truely care.

I started taking my dog to their new Burnside location a couple weeks ago and he LOVES it! They treat him like a prince and he is so pooped when he comes home from day care, it makes it worth it! I know he is getting the exercise he needs, and I can tell he loves this place because when I pick him up he doesn't do his usual separation anxiety whine like he does when I pick him up at other places.
The fact that this place is open 7 days a week for daycare really makes it worth my while. They're on the other side of Portland from me, but it is worth the drive for the convenience of their hours and to make my dog happy!
The staff has been nothing but wonderful to me and my dog and we will continue to use their facility as long as we can!

Cons: my dog can fit under their gates which scares me a little!

We boarded our three dogs for the holidays and we could not be more pleased with every aspect of the Dog and Cat Spa on Burnside. The staff was extremely kind and caring, the facilities are spacious and inviting. Our dogs were happy to see us but we suspect that they may miss their new friends. We have boarded our dogs at several other spots in and around Portland over the last 6 years and this last experience was by far the best.

have only met nice employees and owner. They were all so helpful. I needed to get my hair done so they squeezed in my dog during the time I needed. When I was in the middle of getting my hair done (I looked like an alien) I went over to check on my dog and she was sleeping under the dryers. I even stuck my hand in front of the dryer to make sure it was not too hot and they assured me that they were temperature regulated. I talked to the groomer again (waking up my dog, sorry) and they understood exactly what I wanted. There was another lady they were speaking to about the grooming and she wanted some sort of complicated thing then was complaining about the price on this large not so nice matted dog. I picked up my dog and this lady was still giving the groomer and manager hell. I don't know how you do it. I know that if anyone talked to my hair dresser that way, he would kick them out. I still am amazed with their (dog and cat spa's) professionalism and kindness. Good job girls, I would have socked that one in the mouth! I also saw her posting on here, I know it has to be her. In her review she says they were rude. That is a flat out lie. I was there. It is so unfair that people can just go and slam a business with out having to prove anything other than their just jerks.
