I will never give the Tower Bar my service again. The food was horrible & the service was embarrassing. Don't waste your time or $$.

One word- Dimitri. Dimitri Dimitrov is the maitre d' at the Tower Bar, and he makes this restaurant what it is. Forget agents, producers and so forth- this is the man who really knows EVERYONE in Hollywood. The Tower Bar is also a great neighborhood spot because, while high profile, it is relaxed and inviting. The food is delicious and the drinks potent. You can have a business meeting here, a romantic date or even meet friends at the bar.

My partner and I dined at the Tower Bar for our anniversary on a Wednesday night. We had a perfect evening. The Tower Bar revives what L.A. has lacked for years: impeccable service and exceptional cuisine, set in the lavish, historic Sunset Tower Hotel. From the oysters on the half-shell to the steak frites with truffle oil, our meal was legendary, befitting hollywood's finest. You'll feel like a star...and you'll probably be sitting next to one. We won't wait for our next anniversary to return.

I recently had the privilege of having lunch at the Terrace Restaurant at the Sunset Tower Hotel. It was a perfect sunny, breezy southern California day...the kind that can ONLY be enjoyed outdoors. I sat there under the awning...captivated by the view...eating the freshest Lobster Cobb Salad EVER...thinking "Does it get any better than this?" Well....it does. Before I left I took a look around at the Tower Bar Restuarant and the Argyle Spa. I filed the sneak peak away in my mind on the "LA To Do List" and waited for the next "special occasion." The occasion arrived...my partner's birthday. We started with the Hammam Steam Bath (we had just been in Istanbul...and had no idea that there was even anything like this in LA). Then we had a phenominal couples massage in the couples suite. The soothing, warm, elegant decor and the expert touch of the therapists...makes the best we've had in LA...and one of if not THE best we've had anywhere in the world. We dressed....left the spa and walked upstairs to The Tower Bar Restuarant . The timing of all this was seamless...and flowed so easily...it was amazing. All relaxed, we were greated by the most hospitable maitre de and staff. The sun was just setting outside and the amber glow of the room agaist the paneled walls set the mood for a very romantic and intimate dinner...and I must confesss a little celebrity watching. The classic Hollywood deco feel and a jazz duo playing at just the right volume...made for a perfect evening. And that is even before the food came out. Everything we had for dinner was prepared to perfection...grilled artichokes...bacon wrapped dates (exotic and decadent) were starters. My partner raved about the Mediterranean Sea bass served with spinach and mushrooms...it looked amazing. I choose something a little more in the comfort food catagory...a very thick cut porkchop with apples and root vegitables. I was comforted. It was awsome. And yes after all of that we even made room for hot molten chocolate cake and ice cream to celebrate my partner's birthday and it came with the very sincere birthday wishes of our server, maitre de and manager. It was the perfect end to the perfect birthday. I say go make a night of it at The Sunset Tower and The Tower Bar Restaurant...oh yes...but don't forget to visit the Terrace for lunch sometime too. Enjoy!

This was our first visit to the Tower Bar. Both my wife and I were thrilled with the choice we had made. The service and attention to detail was spot on. Our meals were made to perfection. The wine list could not have been better. (They have a great cocktail menu too) After reading all the articles on this restaurant we now know why it??s getting so much press? I would highly recommend the Tower Bar for a special evening because this is what you will get? We can not wait to return.

When you arrive, it's a nice entrance. The hotel looks private and the dining area feels luxurious. That's about the end of the good stuff. Our waiter was a stuck up, unsmiling, UNFRIENDLY actor wannabe, who was often gone from service for protracted lengths of time. We had to help the wait staff remove appetizer dishes when entrees arrived. There was no timing to the service at all. We even moved our own plates off the table just to get them out of the way. The salmon was NOT fresh and the chicken dish was ridiculously boring. Dessert was nothing exciting. I would never go back. You can get better food for the same price or less in many other places. Save your money and dine elsewhere.

SO GONE DOWN HILL!!!! Most HORRIBLE TREATMENT, SERVICE- AND QUITE FRANKLY OVERPRICED- NOT THAT GREAT FOOD EVER!!!! You'd be better off eating across the street at the Saddleranch Lodge!!!!! From the moment you park-until the moment you leave-it is unpleasant. Had it not been for the fact that the three of us were starving...and TOWER WAS THE ONLY PLACE IN TOWN WITH EMPTY TABLES - our first, second and third choices were not available, we settled. Who knew it would turn out to be such a disaster. AWFUL....NEVER TO RETURN!!!!! Funny that after reading other reviews I too had a similar experience with the valet. Clearly they are pocketing the money and we were greatly overcharged and mistreated after spending $400 on a meal. Please be wary of the valets, their management and all of their hidden signs and rules!!!! Not too mention-they are pompous and rude!

We were the youngest people in there by about 40 years. It seemed more like a geriatric convention than a hip Sunset restaurant. The only thing that took longer then dinner service was our elevator ride back up to our room.

It is sometimes difficult for a restaurant to deliver the goods the second time around. That is usually the test after having a great first experience. Well, the Tower Bar delivers. After raving about the place I decided it was time to go back. My girlfreind and I were greated at the host desk by a lovely hostess who remembered us and actually called us by name. You don't get that kind of attention that often in LA. Then we were ushered in by the Maitre'd to a cozy alcove that had beautiful views of the City. I felt as if we were members of a private club. The server was gracious and attentive and the food, again, was spot on. I had the oysters (repeat from my first visit) and then a risotto with seafood. My girlfriend had the salmon which she said was the best in the City. After we finished we decided to have our coffee on the Terrace so we slipped out the side door. We sat for a while under heaters and enjoyed the fantastic view of the City. A plate of warm chocolate chip cookies came to the table as a treat. I don't know about these other reviews, but I will definitely be going back again. And soon!!!

After hearing great reviews of the restaurant, I decided to see for myself. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived for our 7:30pm reservation on a Saturday night. I found that odd. The food and service were only so-so. After a $350+ dinner, we left the hotel for 30 minutes and returned to get our cars. The valet parker asked for $20, even though my ticket was validated by the restaurant. When asked why, they said that the validation is void when you leave the hotel (he insisted that it says so in the fine print on the ticket). We had a little bit of back and forth about this and I ended up giving him the $20 so I could just go home (even though it should have been $8). It also made me think...did he pocket the $12 difference? It just seemed fishy to me since the ticket was stamped by the restaurant. It was a very bad way to end an expensive night of mediocre food and left a very terrible impression of the dining experience in my mind. I will not return. I really expected a better experience start to finish.

I didn't even recognize this hotel when my wife and I went for a couples massage at the Argyle Spa. Really elegant. After an amazing spa experience we had drinks and food on the Terrace. If you were familiar with the Argyle hotel, it was the same space as the Fenix. I promise you won't recognize it now. It's quiet, tasteful, and the view is exquisite. Plus, it's warmer outside than the quiet chilly Tower Bar. We had a very good experience in the spa and the restaurant. A very pleasant and tranquil evening.

This bar is truly classy, and has a great staff. The drink specials at the bar are awesome, they are worth trying if you want to find yourself a new drink. The pours are great, and the crowd (so to speak) is upscale. This bar is great, and it accesses an amazing poolside area with an amazing view. I love Sunset Towers. I've had great bday party experiences as well as simple night out with a drink at the bar experiences here. If you feel like dropping some cash for a night that will be plush, comfortable, chill and pleasant, go to Sunset Towers.

I usually eat inside at the Tower Bar, the fantastic dining room at the Sunset Tower Hotel but when the hostess mentioned their outdoor option--and it was such a beautiful night--I went for it. It's the same menu as the Tower, but they also had a small plates menu with little snacks. The lobster short stack stood out. There's a beautiful view of the city and plenty of heat lamps.

Eating at the Tower Bar is like stepping back in time. I expected to see Frank Sinatra at the next table! Besides the elegant ambiance I was pleasantly surprised by the service. Their maitre d' Dimitri is one of the reasons I keep coming back. He treats me and my guests with the same panache as the celebrities, studio heads or bigwigs at the other tables. He seems to have also trained his staff with the same care as everyone--bartenders, waiters and hostesses--was lovely and polite. The food is great. I suggest the steak frites, the best I've had in L.A., and be sure to order the french fries cooked in truffle oil. Delicious! Their cocktails are superb. Make a reservation a day or two in advance because the place fills up. I've brought friends and family and recommended it to many people and have only heard rave reviews.

I usually avoid the Sunset Strip for what to me, are obvious reasons: tacky, loud clubs and restaurants full of drunken Paris Hilton Wannabes and the horndogs who chase them. So, I was a little skeptical about finding an oasis of grown-up sophistication in the middle of the Strip. Alas, I was wrong to doubt this place.

The Tower Bar is one of the best kept secrets in Los Angeles. Do not expect to "roll up" with your "crew" for drinks and grub. For god's sake, make a reservation.

Classy, dark and quiet, great food, white jackets on the waiters, beautiful views, and a conservative but strong wine list. Expensive, but you can't ask for surroundings, service and atmosphere like this place, and expect it to be cheap.

If you don't mind spending some cash, and want to know what it feels like to live like the A-list clientele this place attracts, you won't be dissapointed.

After repeated raves raves from a trusted restaurant-enthused friend, I decided to visit the Tower Bar at the Sunset Tower Hotel myself. I had the good fortune to be accommodated with a reservation last night. As my date and I rolled up to the valet at the front of the hotel, we were warmly greeted by the valet, and whisked inside. The restaurant is through the left side of the lobby, past a glowing fireplace and a tidy lounge filled with both traditional booth seating and more casual coffee tables surrounded by banquettes and armchairs.

A wonderful two-piece Jazz combo tinkled away in the corner beside the hostess stand. We were greeted by a lovely young hostess, who introduced us to the Maitre'd and seated us inside at the bar for a drink while our table was prepared. I ordered a belvedere martini, which came icy cold with three jumbo olives. delicious. My sweetie had a glass of Viogner, which she quite enjoyed.

We were seated in a beautiful dark wood paneled alcove.

Our waiter promptly appeared, and took our order for a bottle of sparkling water. The menu is classic "Old Hollywood" all the way. A simply elegant and well thought out selection of dishes. We began with the Seafood Tower appetizer (recommended fort two or more - $42), which was magnificently presented on stacked silver platters, filled with ice, and overflowing with shrimp. mussels, oysters, lobster and (my favorite) king crab legs.

I ordered my entree from the night's additions. A magnificent Cote de Beouf ($65), described by our waiter as dry aged for 48 days. A truly magnificent 14 oz. cut of meat similar to a rib eye, served sliced over grilled romaine with house made blue cheese stuffed Gnocci. I was in heaven. My date had the Chicken Paillard ($26), a thin-pounded breast herb marinated and grilled, served with greens. light and delicious!

The the food was great, service was gracious and quiet, and the classic old school Maitre'd was just perfect. Worth every penny.

The the food was great, service was gracious and quiet, and the classic old school Maitre'd was just perfect. Worth every penny.

Pros: service, ambiance, food

Cons: valet parking only

The Tower Bar lived up to all of it's hype. Enjoyed a signature cocktail in the lounge before being seated in the restaurant. The duet (pianist & basist) and beautiful room really set the mood. Service was very attentive and spot on. The recommended orange-balsamic glazed lamb was fabulous. For great food, great service and the prettiest room in LA this is the place!

The room is nice, the staff are friendly, and it's got a wonderful view, but my main advice to anyone dining or drinking here is to scrutinize your bill before you pay it.

A friend and I were having drinks and ordered the cheese plate, which was listed on the menu for $12.

When we got the bill, we had been charged $18 for the cheese plate. After the waiter corrected the error, he came back with a bill that had had almost $15 added onto it for no reason (bill should have been about $48, and was $64 with no reason). We called him over again, and he corrected the second error but set the price of the cheese plate back to $18.

At this point, we decided to just give up and pay the extra money rather than argue and keep sending the bill back, but from what other patrons at the bar told us, this is something this establishment does regularly.

I guess a lot of the guests don't bother to double-check the bill and the Tower Bar has decided to take advantage of this.

Should you go there, enjoy the food, beautiful room and stunning view, but be VERY certain your bill is accurate before you pay.

the tower bar is the greatest place in la and by far my favorite restaurant. i eat her 3 times a week. it is chic fun and yummy. it is sophisticated without being stuffy. the tower bar is just truly amazing. i recomend going on a non-weekend night (it gets a little too busy on weekends). the food is always fresh and delicious, the service is always perfect and the feeling of the room is just the best in la. it is old hollywood meets ny with the food and service to match. its one of the greatest experiences one can have in la.

We ate at the Tower Bar on Saturday (3/8/08) and were extremely disappointed. It had been a year or two since we last went there, after service was terrible on two different occasions. We'd hoped things had changed, but alas no. Despite being told it was a special occasion during the reservation process, we ended up at an "added" table that was clearly not part of the floor plan. Had anyone in our party been the slightest bit overweight, we wouldn't have even fit into the cramped (and weird) space. Things got worse as we waited 20 minutes for someone (anyone!) to come by and take a drink order. Our waiter (who finally made an appearance around minute 30) was clearly flustered and not on top of his game. We had to ask for several things twice and never had simple things like refilling of water glasses or pouring of wine taken care of. Add to that, the food was less than pedestrian and quite salty. The crab lump's special ingredient was Dijon mustard, which clearly didn't enhance anything. The steak salad entree had stale "sugar coated walnuts" and the short ribs were overcooked and (tasted like they'd been) soaked in salt. All at prices that are ridiculous given the quality (or lack thereof) of the food. The room itself? Beautiful. The pianist and guitarist? Grand. The service, food and rest of the bunch? Horrific. Run, don't walk, as fast as you can from this wallet/tourist trap on the Sunset Strip. What a waste of time, energy, money and special occasion.

What a disorganized place. The host called me a few hours before the reservation telling me he cannot accommodate of party of eight at our reservation time. We made a reservation three weeks in advance and already got a confirmation call from the restaurant. After going back and forth he agreed to seat us at our schedule time. But when we got there we had to wait over an hour and he (Dementri) made no apologizes or accommodation like good services or comps, Not much of a birthday celebration.

I had a social busineess cocktails meeting and Tower Bar was a great choice. The bartender was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. After glasses of wine we were ready for light bite to eat. The butter lettuce salad isn't anything special but the pizza appitizer was so delicious and light. The room is cozy and kept quite dark. I would definately go back.

This was my first time to The Terrace. The last time I visited the Sunset Tower hotel, we ate in the Tower Bar, and the Terrace was still under construction. I found my party after wandering about and was delighted to find the Terrace to be so open and calming compared to the closed-off space of the Tower Bar. Thankfully, the weather was pleasant and our views were lovely for a Sunday Brunch. The slatted tables were a bit awkward for the flatware, but we quickly put our forks to use after ordering our yummy salad (mixed greens with veggies and candied nuts) and omelets (with truffles). Our server was fast and very accommodating. It was a lovely way to start the day!

My friends and I found Tower Bar stylish, hip and sophisticated but certainly not Hollywood stuffy.

Upon walking into the Sunset Tower Hotel, it was apparent the former art deco decor is all but a mere faded memory. The Golden era of 1920's Hollywood with a modern twist is a welcomed addition along famed Sunset strip. The rich walnut paneled walls, soft beige tiles along with the buzz of piano Jazz assured us we were in for a fun evening.

Tower Bar maitre d' Dimitri promptly sat us at a corner table with amazing views of the city - but then there are no bad views at Tower Bar (even if you are facing other guest;).

After dinner we enjoyed a cocktail at the bar under the care of Jodi, a feisty quick-witted server / bar tender. She recommended we step outside for a stroll around the pool (stunning views!!!!).

Kudos' to The Sunset Tower for providing us with an amazing dining experience, impeccable service, amazing food and personable staff. Overall entertaining (plus no paper thin girls spilling their cosmos while talking on their cell phones).

Highly recommend. Reservations strongly recommended!!!

(p.s. start with the calamari and the grilled Salmon is a MUST!!)

Pros: Ambiance, menu selection, grown-up sophistication without the attitude. Lots of fun!!!

Cons: That we could not stay longer.

After hearing much hullabaloo about the Tower Bar we decided to try it ourselves. We made a reservation for an 8pm dinner, and got there right before 8. Then we waited at the bar for over 2 hours and finally gave up and went somewhere else. This has only happened to us once before, at Mr. Chow, but we actually were forced to stay and eat at Mr. Chow (something we will never do again) due to family. I can't comment on the food, since we laft after waiting for 2 hours, but the staff at the tower bar seemed unbelievably incompetent and somewhat rude. They never even apologized for keeping us waiting for 2 hours when we had a reservation!

my husband and I just celebrated our anniversary at the tower bar. The ambience, the music duo, the staff and the food were all superb.
we shared an order of ahi tuna tartar for appetizer which was just fabulous. For my entree I ordered the chicken paillard and my husband had the filet stuffed with light gorgonzola. we both tried each other'sentree. Both entrees were more than a delight. we asked the waiter if he could serve us the desserts by the poolside which he gladly did.
This was not our first time at the tower bar and will definitely not be our last. we referred several of our friends to the tower bar and they all loved it.
It is our favorite restaurant in LA.

I'm always willing to cut a restaurant slack when one or two things are wrong -- nobody's perfect. But when there's SO much more wrong than right, I draw the line. From the confusing entry (is there even a hostess??) to truly laughably bad service (and I mean that literally, it was so bad we thought we were on Candid Camera), to a 3 1/2-hour meal length (and it wasn't a tasting menu either), this was a mess. And to cap it off with food that ranged from a high point of "it's fine" to "I can't eat this", when the check (appetizers, entrees, and dessert and one bottle of water -- no other drinks) came to $200 for 2 people, something is definitely wrong. (And I have NO problem spending money on a meal when you feel you're getting something special, or even just good.) Very disappointing.

love it. come here often. i really love this place very cool old hollywood atmosphere- wood paneled walls- views of the city twinkling behind, servers in white coats biut not sdtuffy-- relaxed not too expensive not too obnoxious-- jsut perfect. the food is very reliable and very good not amazing but really great, the service is good (not great) probably their weakest trait, but the best part of the restaurant is the atmosphere, the reliable food, and its a total power scene-- every night filled with great people watching-- have seen steven spielberg, jude law, sean penn, catherine zeta jones and michael douglas, bill murry, dan akroyd, noemi campbell and many more fabulous people. great food good service genius ambience and incredible scene-- this will be a staple in l.a.

The meal one enjoys with friends or family are mental pictures that one can revisit often. The aroma of a freshly baked cookie can transport you back to the time and place you had that cookie. This was the case with the meal I enjoyed with gusto at the Tower Bar. The amuse bouche sent to our table teased our taste buds & heighten our expectations. My salad with ruby red grapefruit and avocado was light and refreshing , I would never think that avocado and grapefruit would pair well."the I'm a believer .." song comes to mind. When my gnocchi entree was brought to the table note to chef to skip the plate send the pot. We went on a night that at every other table you saw a celeb the staff and the maitre d' never made us feel anything but pampered. Will I return? Definitely.

I was very eager to go to the Tower Bar as I have read so much about the restaurant and the great reviews. The reviews are right. The place is amazing. The ambiance is so beautiful and Chic. The staff is not only georgous but good at what they do. The menu was great and the food was amazing. We had such a wonderful time that we are doing my best friends B/day party there in a month in the private room.

The first and only order of drinks arrived promptly as did our appetizers, but the entree took over an hour to reach our table after the appetizers and drinks were cleared from the table. We were never asked if we wanted more coctails or wanted a bottle of wine(which we did, this should have been known to all since the wine list was still on our table). first we all delighted in thinking that this restaurant was about having a nice relaxing leisurely paced meal... then a waiter we had not seen before shows up and informs us our food was on its way... we sat at 8pm.. its now 10pm.. they were not apologetic... I will give them that they did discount our bill $100.00... but thats not the point. I wanted a nice dinner not my $100.00. if I wanted to save money I would have gone elsewhere.

Dining at the Tower Bar is a mixed bag. The good: the dining room and ambience are really nice - this is a cozy place to have a relaxed meal. The food is pretty good, although the menu is fairly limited. Service starts out with a bang, but then they get busy and it comes to a crawl. They messed up a drink order at the table next to us and it took three requests to get it fixed. The Matre'd will dote on you if your are someone famous, but he'll ignore regular folks. The key question for any restaurant is would I go back? Unforutnately, the answer is No for the Tower Bar, which is truly unfortunate. This could be a truly GREAT place to dine, but it isn't...

I went to the Tower Bar last night with my girlfriend for my birthday. We were both highly impressed with the decor when we walked in.

That's the only good thing I can say about this place. After being told that our table would be ready in 20 minutes, we got a drink at the bar and sat down to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait some more. An hour later neither us nor the couple sitting next to us were seated. We were given no explanation. We were not checked up on. We were not apologized to. We walked out.

Management needs to step it up there or Tower Bar will just become another classless obnoxious Los Angeles establishment.

Like stepping back in time! The decor and ambeience are fitting with the timeline of the building. Sophisticated and grown-up. On the Sunset Strip? Its about time!

Chef Piero Morovich has taken command of the menu, and it's dazzeling and delicious.

Pastry Chef, Miho Travi has used this place to launch herself as a new star in the Pastry world. Protege of Michelle Meyers (Boule), she has taken what she learned and . . .

Damn!

Service, detailed and courtious. Unpretentious, without being too familiar.
Congratulations General Manager Michal Gregus, and Restaurant Director Dimitri Dimirov.

Love the Wine List!

Page Cavanaugh on the Piano and stories of the great ones. Just ask.

My favorite new/old Place.

NOTE!!!!! This place should be catagorized under Restaurants!

Stylish and elegant, the Tower Bar at the Argyle hotel is a refreshing escape from all the trendy places on the strip. No 20-something's in shabby clothes and no fusion food "posing" on your plate. This is a warm, inviting place to enjoy a cocktail and some piano jazz. The patrons are classy and the service is outstanding. Classic menu items are done with organic ingredients. Try the lobster salad and the duck a l'orange.
This landmark hotel has not compromised it's standards and has managed to preserve it's grace in the midst of a constantly changing Hollywood.

Finally, a civilized place to dine, drink, and converse in Los Angeles. While I'm usually not one for change, especially when it involves a Hollywood landmark, I cant say enough about the elegant transformation of this legendary building. That The Argyle offers a place to dine that has amazing food, and spectacular service in a stunning atmosphere is a gift to all who moved to LA from New York and other civilized parts.

Well, it has been over a year and I returned to LA for another business trip from New York. After a long day of meetings, my associate and I agreed to dine at the Tower Bar as we did one year earlier. We were curious to see if our experience would be as amazing as the last. Not to any surprise, the staff was still professional and gracious and the food was outstanding. I started with my favorite, the tuna tartar and the rest of the evening just melted away into the sound of the live piano music and stunning views of Los Angeles. Thank you Tower Bar for becoming my true home away from home...

I went to the tower bar in the Argyle Hotel, and loved it! On tuesdays they have a great jazz pianist playing all night, which created a very lovey ambiance for me and my husband. The Kobe beef burger was exquisite, and they have a great drink selection. It is very refreshing knowing that there are still restaurants like this... I highly recommend the Tower Bar.
