From the half fried dumplings to the filet to the green tea icecream--everything was heavenly. We felt very taken care without feeling smothered, even with the chef himself making two appearances at our table. The wine suggestion was right on the money and while the portions were plentiful, none of the four courses we enjoyed were overwhelming. I thought the kung-pao shrimp was perfect as my main dish, but closely followed by the duck and the filet.

The best part about the ambiance, I believe, was the lighting and the light fixtures. I couldn't help but wonder who did them--nothing less than artwork.

'Classy bar area and the manager, John Riggs, makes a great dirty martini!!

As a side note, I noticed a very cozy side room just large enough for one large table and about 6-8 chairs that would be wonderful for a small group.

Pros: chic but cozy, Attentive Service, Wonderful Food

The restaurant looks beautiful, food is perfectly presented...and then it all fails. The service SUCKS...big time, and the food is such a let down. The owner should go back to the type of food he was preparing when he was in Cameron Village. It's got all the potential...trendy...good seating...but the food needs to be improved before I'll go back.

The Duck and Dumpling is a class act restaurant with a huge touch of NYC chic that goes down to the menu design of corrugated cardboard and mylar. The ambiance couldn't have been better, from the soft jazz floating into your ears to the view of the square in downtown Raleigh through the large street side windows, very nice. The food was exquisite (Moo Shoo Duck!!) all combining very unique combinations to tantalize the senses, the presentation was very aesthetically pleasing, and the martini selection was far from lacking (try the French Martini).

Pros: Creative menu, great martinis, atmosphere

Cons: nearby couple

The Duck and Dumpling offers magnificent Asian fusion dishes in a warm and attractive environment. They are very happy to cater to the guests' wishes, creating delicious vegetarian dishes out of their menu items. The food was perfectly done and well presented. They have high chairs for the younger enthusiasts, but there is no children's atmosphere.

You'll think you had stepped into a New York restaurant when you go to the Duck and Dumpling. Beautiful design, soft jazz, attentive service - what a delight. The food is up to the measure of the ambiance. In a party of 9 we had no dish that wasn't a rave. Fresh flavors, lovely presentation, all in all top-notch.

When I walked in, I felt a little ordinary, as the atmosphere and other customers were quite trendy. But, nonetheless, we were seated right away (we did have reservations) and were greated by a very friendly server. The menu is fabulous and reasonably priced, and it was hard to decide what to order! The food is excellent! I highly recommend the spring rolls, dumplings, duck and dumpling soup, and kung-pao shrimp. The pinot grigio is wonderful, and it and all the wines are priced nicely. I will definitely go back!

Pros: tasty!, great service, good location

Cons: too trendy, need closer parking, no chocolate desserts

the food was stunning - the sauce didn't overwhelm the incredible seafood, and the portions weren't massive. the presentation was excellent. WONDERFUL atmosphere. but i would bump this up to the next price bracket. if you ordered a nice wine (that the waiter suggested that wonderfully complemented the meal!), sample a heavenly appetizer, and try to save room for the tempting-sounding ice creams, you are well out of the $20- price range.

but that's ok :) it's worth it.

I was quite surprised and pleased with my experience and the Duck and Dumpling the other night. The service was quite attentive while not being overbearing. Our appetizers came out within a few minutes and were so good we decided to oder another round before our entree course. The entrees were quite delicious with a classy simple presentation. I have already been back a few times in the past two weeks and plan on beng there again on Saturady night.
