Okay, I normally don't go to places like this but some friends invited me to hang out with them and decided to go here. I was surprised. It was like walking into a family reunion. In the big city of SF where people are busy living their own lives, these people were friendly and the service nice. Even for a non drinker like myself they had a large variety of non-alcoholic drinks. I was content to sit and watch all the colorful people come and go as well as hang with my friends. Very easy location to find. Great Place overall.

This might be the best pub in SOMA. But of course thats not saying much. It's really just a basic bar with a few good beers. Nothing special but atleast it doesn't bring out the "suits" each day after work.
3first thing that greets you is a liverpool flag, and not a tri-colour, very unhelpful waitress nothing irish about this bar only the name A WARNING TO ALL IRISH PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM THIS BAR

Cons: igronant people
Located somewhat off the beaten path. Great place to have a Guinness and meet up with friends. Friends who like to drink. Fun place to chill and not worry about what you're wearing.
5The location of this bar/pub alone deserves attention! Just outside of a typically busy/touristy area, Chieftain is mostly patronized by locals (and the characters they are!) Fun place!
4This neighborhood has needed a pub for aeons and the chieftain is it! Good auld pub fare, excellent beer choices, great staff.

Pros: Beer, food, ambience
Cons: 5th and Harrison is rough if yer not a local
The Chieftain is one of the best happy hour places I have seen in a long time.Their happy hours Drink and food ( you must try their crab cakes)specials changes daily and goes till 8pm every day.But what really makes this place is the atmosphere created by the fun staff.Oh! I almost forgot they have 4 TVs plus a Giant screen to watch sports from all over the world.

Pros: Inexpensive, good parking, great food
I was back in town on business and once again ended up at the Chieftain. I just love the staff there and not alone those Chieftain Burgers-Hugh and I mean Hugh. Everytime I'm in town I always stop by there and the staff always take good care of me (too good, the shots are a killer) The only draw back was that my favorite waitress (theresa I think) doesn't work there any more. Great personality and a true Irish Rose.

This is a really nice pub inside, great decor, not too big not too small, myself and my friends have been going here for nearly a year.It is a genuine Irish Bar, went for the World Cup and the atmosphere was electric. One big drawback is that they change staff waaaaay too often, five or six months is the average, some of the former staff call it the cheaptain, management dont know what they are doing Im told. But it is certainly worth a trip, just dont get too attached to the staff.

Great Irish pub. People are great. Trivia night with Frank is not to be missed (Tuesdays). Decent food as well.
