I really enjoy spending time at Zanzibar Cafe. The service is always friendly and food is great. They allow dogs on the patio which is a plus for me. Good wine selection and amazing desserts. The market has a deli and a over-the-top

Whether we are taking out-of-town guests or just going with friends, Zanzibar Cafe in the East Village is a wonderful experience. The food and service are always good, and gathering table to seat the whole crowd is not a problem. With the take-out area, we can also bring back sandwiches the two blocks to our Center. Try Zanzibar. Prepare to be pleased.

Great selection of healthy and delicious foods at this combination restaurant and self-serve deli. Going here often, I tend to have my 'favorite' menu items and am never disappointed.
4Great vibe, extensive selection of healthy and super tasty food!

Pros: Fresh, creative food
A great place to grab breakfast on the weekend. The place is a bit small so you may have to wait for a table. The breakfast burrito I got was great. It would also be a great place for studying.

The is a great little place in east village to have breakfast or lunch. I haven't been for dinner so I can't say but the breakfast with awesome. The service was great also.
5Zanzibar changed my life. The only way to describe the meatloaf is "Ice Cream Castles" in the sky. The staff was very knowledgeable and pleasant. If you do not at least try this amazing establishment you are missing out on something special. Great place to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I am a different person after experiencing Zanzibar. I can now look at people in the eyes when I speak to them and found myself showering with another man after drinking one of their delicious Grande Cafe Mocha's. Yummmmm.

My name Lucy Brown, and I live downtown. First of all, the second review the owner, who I know personally. His name is Bob Chancellor, and he likes to travel and recruit talent. I first met Bob on the 50 yard line of the Dallas Cowboys stadium. Anyway, please pay no attention to his review because "Old Tex", as we refer to him is only in for his own interest. Let's not get into his wives' affairs, no pun intended. As far as the restraunt staff, service, and food go, I think Zanzibar is a great African island, in a sea of honkeys.

Pros: Lots of ethnic employees
Cons: lots of ethnic employees
The breakfast is good. Chewy whole grain toast, consistent scrambled eggs and bacon, good bagels. But every other time i go here for lunch, dinner or a glass of wine, either the food or the service seems to suffer. The mac n cheese is odd, underseasoned, and usually served too cold. Service is crazy unorganized and slow during rush hour, and the cheese plate is pretty ordinary. But i applaud the breakfast efforts, and hope to see this place work out the kinks. Would love to have a neighborhood go-to spot that's cheaper than Chloe.

For the first time east village feels like a neighborhood with Zanzibar Cafe open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With friendly service and great food, locals can feel at home with reasonable prices and familiar faces. I enjoy breakfast before work or a quick lunch hour in a place that feels miles from the tourist centered gaslamp dinning. I highly recommend Zanzibar, especially the quesadilla and breakfast burritos. I'm told the coffee is good too. Don't for get to get a cookie.

Pros: Location, food, service
Cons: no outside seating
I've heard good things about Zanzibar's food, which I do not doubt. I'm sure it's great. The problem is that the service is so slow, you don't have the chance to enjoy it on your hour breaks. I went with 2 co-workers on a Friday morning (9am). We were the only ones in the place except for a woman waiting for a to-go order. We later found out it was a "very large order" because we had to wait 45 min. for a pancake, quesadilla, and scramble. When you only have an hour or less to eat, Zanzibar is definitely not the place to be, even if you're the only dine-in customer. There doesn't seem to be any priority given to dine-in customers over to-go orders.
