A really nice pub, and an upscale feeling with casual prices. Still in the heart of the city, but just outside enough to find street parking. A great place for a few cocktails with friends, or a nice business meal.

Right near 30th Street Station is where this wee bit of Ireland is hidden. Owned and operated by the family of the late, great Mike Doyle, this is a pub you must visit. In true Irish form, the food, drink and staff are all welcoming and wonderful. You are guaranteed a lovely pint of Guiness, just for the asking...and a couple quid, of course. Treat yourself to an evening at Slainte.

Slainte is located right by 30th St Station -- across the street to be precise -- making it a convenient meet-up location for those using SEPTA transit.
The bar is owned by the folks that run New Deck and there are some strong similarities, but also some differences. First, it is also Irish themed, as the name may suggest. The decor is very nice and the atmosphere is quite warm and cozy -- I liked it better than New Deck in this regard. Also, as opposed to New Deck, the wait staff and hostess were pleasant and attentive. The beer selections are quite similar to New Deck as well: Irish/Euro mega-imports mixed with American midi-brews and regional micro-brews. However, in contrast to New Deck, the bartender useless in terms of recommending a beer or describing the flavors, nor did he offer a sample (he was polite though). All the food we tried (mostly appetizers) was very good, especially the cheese fries. Prices were pretty standard, 5-10 for most of the appetizers and 10-15 for entrees.
