Some gyms can be uncomfortable for ladies to use, but this gym is a safe and welcoming environment. I enjoy the yoga classes and other gym amenities. The owners of Austin Fitness Center are both helpful and repectful. Each time I visit, I get an effective workout! I encourage you to join.

A great local gym with everything you need to get in shape, or excel at your sport, no matter your level. Andy is a genuine, highly knowledgeable trainer who is equally at home working with professional athletes, weekend warriors or plain old desk jockeys. He shows his clients and gym members the highest respect; and he gets them results.

I'm very happy I found this gym! So many gyms are vying for our dollars here in South Austin. Most of them are corporate giants and the few that are small are poorly equipped and poorly cleaned/maintained. This gym is the exception by a mile. The owner is a class act who really knows his stuff. The equipment is more than most everyone will ever need and the place is spotless at all times. I love it. The price is beyond reasonable at $28/month and there's no nonsense initiation fees to pay or contracts. I'm very happy to be here and plan on staying no matter what "great deal" the big box gyms offer next.

Only a fool would say a bad word about this place. My husband and I have known the owner for just over 7 years and he is a sincerely nice guy who not only knows what he's doing, but enjoys it and loves helping people as well. The energy is great in there and I love that little gym! The equipment is great, everything is clean, and the people that go there are nice and friendly. Allow me to repeat myself... I love this little gym!

AFC is an awesome gym.......it's nice and cool inside, extremely clean, and has a very friendly atmosphere. I for one do not care for gyms that strictly have weight machines and cardio machines, which makes AFC perfect since it has a variety of everything including lots of free weights too(also a squat rack, a dip bar, a pullup/chinup bar which I love.) Also, one of the previous posts said there was little variety in cardio machines, but AFC has ellipticals, treadmills, AND bike machines as well as plenty of other machines to lift and workout with.....which to me is alot of variety. Andy is a very nice guy who is always open to answering questions you may have, and he doesnt badger you to keep rejoining, which I personally like. Oh, and there are no contracts which is perfect for students like me, or I guess just people with busy schedules who never know what the next month may bring......you can sign up and cancel at any time. Overall, great gym, great atmosphere, nice people who workout there....awesome

I consider a good gym to be one that offers affordable rates, is clean, friendly, accessible, and has everything you reasonably need to get a good work out and meet your goals. The Austin Fitness Center is all of those things plus one very big advantage- the owner. I can't say enough good things about Andy Bruchey. I'm not the type of person to work with a trainer- I know my way around a weight room and am a life-long athlete who took anatomy and physiology and sports medicine classes in college. But Andy isn't like other trainers. He stays current with the latest research, is respectful and friendly, and really personalizes each work out to each client. Upon first meeting him, Andy mentioned my left shoulder and hip- which he could tell were dysfunctional just by the way I sat in a chair and chatted with him. I've never met anyone who can do that. Doctors and physical therapists need do a full hands-on evaluation to gather that kind of information! Within 2 months of weekly workout sessions with Andy, my 2 1/2 ... that offers affordable rates, is clean, friendly, accessible, and has everything you reasonably need to get a good work out and meet your goals. Within 2 months of weekly workout sessions with Andy, my 2 1/2 year old shoulder pain was resolved! During the following months, we worked on strengthening my shoulder so that I could return to yoga, rough-house with my 2 year old, and do all sorts of things that were previously painful or restricted for me. Andy continued working with me through my pregnancy, helping me prevent the hip pain that I had through my 1st pregnancy, and getting me strong and prepared for the big birthing day! Which, by the way, went so smoothly and easily. I highly recommend this gym and Andy.

PROS:
No TVs, must turn off cell phones
If you come here to hit on the ladies you WILL get in trouble.
Informal -- no membership card. They know who you are.
Sparkling clean, well maintained.
Andy is an experienced "lifer" trainer, not some kid who managed a Pizza Hut last week. Knows his stuff! Check out his journal and you will see he is constantly keeping abreast of fitness and health issues.

CONS:
No TVs, must turn off cell phones
If you come here to hit on the ladies you WILL get in trouble.
Not 24 hours
No swimming pool.

Works for me, has been working for me for two + years.

I joined Austin Fitness Center a couple of years ago and weigh almost forty pounds less. My workout is not about socializing, wearing expensive clothes or paying a lot of money. I was a member of another gym here in Austin for 25 years and paying twice as much. An accident moved me from fitness to rehabilitation. When I was ready to get back to fitness, the cleanliness, professionalism, knowledgeable staff and affordability made my decision for me.
While most of the equipment is weight machines, this is by no means a 'meathead' gym. I feel perfectly comfortable there. No cell phone usage, no deafening music or televisions, and as I said, a good, knowledgeable staff presence that is not spread so thinly that you can't get help should you need it.

I found this gym almost three years ago when I was looking for a personal trainer and have been there ever since. Andy (the owner) is helpful, knows his stuff, and gets results. Even if personal training is not for you it's got a great selection of new/clean weight and cardio equipment. I am still drawn to the friendly and personal atmosphere that this gym offers...something that was lacking in the "big box" gyms who seemed to only be interested in me when my wallet was open.

Highly recommended!! It's got what my work out experience was missing.

It is a clean gym, but kinda small. It gets difficult to lift weights when there are about 6 people working out. The rates are kinda high for the space and equipment that are offered. Andy is a cool guy until you see his true colors. He takes every opportunity to trash talk his members when they aren't around, even doing it to the people he trains. I took a couple of training sessions and wasn't impressed with the session and the rate. He likes to read emails and check his phone. I recently quit his gym because I couldn't afford the fee. Planet Fitness is right down the road.

Business Response:

This doesn't even deserve a response but all I'll say is that if you come in and find any of this nonsense to be true, I'll gladly buy you a gym membership wherever you want. 'Nuff said.
.

The place is spotless, very well equipped for serious athletes and everyday people alike. The atmosphere is very friendly and there's no typical gym nonsense here. Andy Bruchey, the owner, trains a wide variety of people. He's a nice guy who genuinely cares about people and really knows what he's doing. I've worked with him for 4 years now and the results, if I may say so, are outstanding. I absolutely love this place. Everyone else seems to as well.

Message from Austin Fitness Center

I've been a personal trainer to professional athletes, movie actors, physical therapy clients, weekend warriors, housewives, business professionals, kids, the elderly, and the newcomer to fitness for over 17 years. Everyone who comes into our gym is treated with the utmost respect by not only me and my staff, but by fellow gym members as well and that is not something that's ever negotiable. We not only have a spotless gym and great equipment, but we have a genuinely friendly and positive atmosphere because we attract a different demographic than the typical gym. Not everybody is interested in this atmosphere and they're welcome to go elsewhere. I haven't lost sight of my vision of what this gym is or how to treat people. If you join my gym and feel that it's not everything we say it is, I'll happily buy you a gym membership wherever you wish.
