Fogo de Chao is a Brazilian restaurant, and that is what you are going to get- A taste of Brazil. Some of the other reviews show the lack of understanding people have when trying a restaurant that isn't American style. The food is well executed, most items on the buffet are outstanding, although some can be an acquired taste. I think it's fantastic, and it's the best Brazilian style Churrascao that I've had outside of Brazil. Definitely a bit spendy, but worth every penny for the fabulous food and WONDERFUL experience!

I graced this establishment on my birthday just before Christmas and was utterly disappointed. I read all the reviews and couldn't believe how wrong they were. I don't know if most people are just enamored with the idea of so much food

Great food! I loved being VERY full when I left. But do not go on Valentine's Day! They overcrowd the place with tables and people to a point that you don't want to speak to your sweetie because the table next to you will hear everything. They did offer a buy one, get one coupon!

LOVED THIS PLACE!! Man restaurant, but they also have a really good salad bar. If you are looking for authentic Brazilian food, this is the place to go. It was expensive, and the service was a little slow, but it was worth it. Lunch is a little less expensive. Great bar area.

I took my wife here for her birthday. They gave us a free desert as a result! The service is really great, even though the venue is a bit strange - they walk you through it. Beware, when you flip your table card to green (meaning bring me more meat!), you'll have to listen fast to hear the many, many different kinds of meats that will appear at your table. Try them all once, but then settle for the house specialty, fillet Mignon and the top sirloin - those are by far the best.

I recently went with my husband per all of his coworkers telling him how wonderful it was. It was okay. The salad bar was very ornate but I didn't think it was that good. The meats were overall good and I like to have a little variety but you do sometimes get a cut that is not the best. . .My 300lb hubby loved being able to eat a ton but I don't think anyone who had a palette for fine steak would enjoy it as much. It just wasn't special or memorable for us. For me to have a soda with a refill., well . . . .I will only order water ever again.

I am not a big buffet fan, so it goes without saying that this High End buffet never had a chance. The five of us were seated and sent to the salad bar, nothing was labeled and we were left wondering what some of the salads were. Seated at a table in a busy area, it was annoying being on the side where all the servers passed and constantly knocked into my chair. Every time I even looked at my water glass they were there to fill it up, I finally put my coaster on top of my glass to prevent any premature refilling. Same way with the popovers and potatoe sides, it was quite annoying and they must throw alot of food away. The meat was adequate, not the best filet I've had, overdone. On the whole I would have rather eaten at home and spent the money on good steak that I could have grilled myself that actually had some flavor.

I was there with my colleagues last night. If you want to burn close $70 per head with their steak and salad buffet plus few drinks for pretty weird tasting food this would be your place. For such a high price I expect top notch food and ambiance which it lacks both. They can neither pull off contemporary nor classic ambiance. All you see is walls of wines stacked in the name of decor and the place is pretty crowded. To do back and forth to salad bar from your table you have to tackle maze of tables and people heads with your plate full of food. No beer on tap neither any great selections on bottle - only your usual with Heinekens and Coronas at most. Salad bar is nothing special. But their much touted meats and steaks were the most disappointment. If you ask me it tasted down right wired. It does not tastes like it came off the grill - which it is not I later found out. They are supposedly cooked n open fire but that does not bring out the flavor of the meat. With a prime cut beef you can't go much wrong in your average grill even with just salt and pepper. But that is not the case here - like I said it tasted very different. May be you need to acquire this sort of taste or visit Brazil to get an appreciation. Pork ribs were the worst in my view. Go ahead and try it if you think I making this up. Lamb chops with some mint flavoring were a saving grace. Me and my colleagues both agreed that their cheese bread puffs they bring out at the beginning of the meal with drinks as an appetizer (for free) were the best tasting items. Again - sorry if I was too harsh on my review. In mid-west we just pay for anything and play nice.

This is a fantastic and FUN restaurant. An authentic Brazilian experience with meat brought to your table and sliced in front of you. The salad bar is also one of the best in town. It is an expensive dinner, but totally worth the experience.

This is a fabulous dining experience - like none other I've ever had! This "buffet" style steakhouse brings everything right to your table, but only when you want it. I love the stop/go cards they use to alert the staff when to bring you more meat. And the meat is fantastic, flavorful and tender - I highly recommend the garlic steak. The side dishes are also all very good as well as their desserts (if you have room). The wait staff is top notch as well! My only cons are the noise level can be a bit much to try and have a decent conversation and seating by the salad bar can be a bit cramped when the line gets long. We literally had people standing over us while waiting in line at the salad bar, but still, I can't wait to go back - seated away from the salad bar, I hope.

Cons: Loud and bit crowded by the salad bar

I have been to Fogo 4 times. It is so unbelievably delicious. Personally, I spent some time in Italy so the only thing I eat on the salad bar is the proscuitto and Mozzerella. It is delicious and right on. The meats are all fantastic, the service is awesome, and they keep the side dishes coming. You definitely get what you pay for. Attentive and fast service, I have never had a bad experience here.

Now, it has been at least 30 years since I was in Brazil. This restaurant at least captures the caiperinhas I enjoyed in Brazil. (A caiperinha uses cachaca as its base, a liquore like rum, but made from sugar cane ranter than molasses.) I used to say that it's unique flavor came from the copper in the radiators it was distilled through, but I no longer believe that)

I can't tell you that this gives you an authentic experience of a Brazilian restaurant, at least not of 30 years ago.

There are side dishes missing (something made of the same grain that tapioca is made from, but ground and served with bits of bacon), and the desserts do not include quimdim (something indescribably wonderful made of coconut and egg yolk.) And the meats do not taste like they do in Brazil; I suspect that they are using lean US Beef.

But it is all very good food. And you should go there just for a caiperinha.

My first experience and I thought it was great. The meats were excellent however to be honest the side dishes could come up as far as taste otherwise great experience and well worth the monies.

We were on vacation inn Minneapolis and decided to go to Fogo de Chao near the corner of Hennepin and seventh. The restaurant is centrally located in the midst of activity near Target Center and so street parking is non existent but there's lots of parking structures and lots around.
We have been to many churrascarias but this one is the best of all. We found the service to be excellent with many cuts of meat (variety of 15) but also the waiter/waitress service was very attentive. So, there is a salad bar included and my faves are the hearts of palm, artichoke hearts and dried tomatos...items not usually available at standard salad bars. Hot dishes brought to each table consist of warm cheese biscuits, very unique, fried polenta and mashed potatoes and fried bananas. When the meat is sliced you can have a choice of rare or well done slices and of course, as much as you please. I liked the filet mignon, but honestly there was nothing I didn't like. One item not tried was the leg of lamb but I can say it looked fantastic. The place was crowded for a lunch, but I would suggest better to go when it's crowded than empty because the food turns over faster. Everyone I saw was having a great time. Also to note, the bathrooms were clean and on the way out there were beautiful chocolates along with my standard matchbook souvenir.

We went last Sunday. Although the place was packed we were seated immediately. The servers pulling out our chars. Even for my husband, which confused him for a moment. The server arrived at out table and explained how the experience worked. My husband and daughter went to the salad bar, and I reviewed the wine list. The amazing bread was delivered. I ordered the wine off the extensive and well priced list. Explained when I wanted it to arrive, and joined them at the salad bar. The selections are described by others we loved it.
By the time I arrived to my table, less than 3 min. The wine glasses were placed. My chair was pulled out again, as it was each time we got up. Seconds after my husband put down his flatware his plate was whisked away, and replaced. He did not even see it happen. The same happened for my daughter and I, but we were watching( having laughed at him). The side dishes were placed, The the main event began. Our waiter appeared with the wine I had ordered to go with the meat. He decanted it, and poured for us. We flipped our coasters over and the service began. I can not possibly describe all of the 15 selections, except to say the bacon wrapped meat was dry, but everything else was well seasoned and amazing. The lamb especially. One of the servers learned I like rare lamb and when ever he had some came to me to see if I wanted more( even when I had a red coaster.) Our plates were replaced many times so many I felt for the dishwashers. We were there form 5:30 to 8:30 and felt as if we were welcome to stay all night. We will be going back.

Pros: Service, food, ambience, feeling like a celberty.

Cons: potatos were watery and unapitising. Not for small or even med. appatites.

This place failed my expectations for good food and service considering the price you pay for dinner. Sure, the ambiance is nice, feels cozy at first and relaxing but after a while, you'll notice the noise that makes conversation difficult. They have good selection of salad/appetizers at the bar but it takes too long to wait to get served a very thin slices of meat. Ive tried all their meats and i could say all of them taste bland to me.
Bottom line is = Not worth the $50++/person for dinner

Fogo de Chao is definitely on my list of top 10 places to eat. We had our reservation for about a month, for a Saturday at 7pm.

My impression of the outside of the place on Hennepin and 7th are "Vegas" it reminds me of soemthing off the strrp. Kind of big, and almost gaudy. The doors to the main entrance are beautiful, we walked in, it was fairly busy, we checked in, coat check was offered and accepted, and I walked into the small, and crowded bar area. My husband went up and orded us a drink. And I took a seat. I was there for less than 5 seconds, before a large basket of the-best-bread-I've-ever-had was placed at our table. About 5 minutes passed and my husband returned. After chatted for a couple minutes, our pager went off. We turned it in, and were brought to our table. The front end staff were VERY courteous. The woman carried my drink, and pulled out my chair for me - very classy.

Once we got situated we were met by one of the many hardworking wait staff. He asked us if we'd like water, and offered a selection. Within minutes we had water, and went to the salad bar. The salad bar offers things that you don't find at other salad bars (much nicer than any casino buffet, and I've been to the Paris, and Rio) It's small. But you have things like: endive, picked veggies, fresh veggies, artichoke hearts, mayo salads made with fresh, top quality ingredients, fresh mozzarella, and an assortment of italian meats, cheeses and breads.

As soon as our salad was finished we were brought clean plates, we flipped our coasters over, and were greeted with an array of meats. Everything I tried, I enjoyed. My favorites being the sausage. chicken breast, bottom sirloin, pork, and filet. The filet was the best I've ever had. (and yes I've been to places like Kincaid's, The Steakhouse in Vegas, Capitol Grill, etc) We were approached quite a few times, and asked if we were happy, if we needed anything, how the food was, etc.

It was a very nice experience. I will return

Pros: Choice, professionalism, close parking, in the heart of Minneapolis - near the Target center, hotels, etc..

Cons: A little pricy, plan on spending at least $60 per person.

We visited Fogo de Chao on a Friday night. Our table for two bordered a walking path for the servers. Because of the crowded space, my boyfriend was continuously bumped in the back.
The food: The salad bar offered just barely above average options, comparable to a casino. Our side dishes (mashed potatoes, plantain fries, and fried bananas) appeared and tasted processed. The cuts of meat varied in quality. The bacon-wrapped chicken and filet were both dry. Only the picanha was well-seasoned and delicious.
The service: Very attentive but a little disingeniune. Our server offered a clean plate and then seemed annoyed when we accepted it. We felt rushed in and out. Our total dining time was 50 minutes.
The ambience: Loud and crowded. Also, because it is special occasion dining, you get to hear "Happy Birthday" every ten minutes.
The value: Our bill was $140 for two meals, a glass of wine (recommended by the server - the priciest glass on the menu), and a tip. Save your money and go to Oceanaire, Murray's, Mission, etc. for better food and a better experience.
Overall, the local Fogo de Chao can't compete with some of the other local offerings.

We went on a Saturday night and the only thing I can say is: if you want the feel of going to a busy buffet, then go here. The line for the salad bar was over 20 people long, so you waited and moved a foot, waited and moved a foot and hey, now I can grab my plate and wait. After the only ok salad bar, the rest of the night just got worse. The meat wasn't that great or abundant - my plate sat empty 75% of the time. It's hard to have a conversation since it's so loud and there is a lot of activity around you. I'd prefer actually being served a variety of meats instead of waiting and flagging down anyone walking down with some type of meat.
I'm glad we tried it but will not go back.

This is one of the finest and most expensive restaurants in Minneapolis. A variety of meats are hand carved at your table and when you are ready for more you turn a card and they return to carve more. I highly recommend it.

This is one of the finest and most expensive restaurants in Minneapolis. A variety of meats are hand carved at your table and when you are ready for more you turn a card and they return to carve more. I highly recommend it.

A group of friends and I tried Fogo for the first time this past week. We were happy that not only were they pleasant about us being walk-ins, but not upset that it was shortly before their closing time. The salad bar was excellent and offered a great variety. We tried all the types of meat and enjoyed that most were almost perfect temps. We will certainly be back and bring more friends. It was all very interactive!

The ambience and atmosphere of the place is great, great decor and the staff service, uniforms and attitude is excellent. the best I have found here. The salad bar is very good, the preparation and taste of the food is great too but....
the tables are very crowded to my test and feels like the people next to you is actually in your table so if you are looking for romantic, calm and relax go somewhere else.
They didn't bring to the table all the items listed on the menu even after asking for it.
The quality of the beef isn't the best either and for the prices I paid at Fogo I prefer to go to restaurants like Capitol grill, Mannys, Kincaid's or Murrays any day.
One of those places that I go once to try it out but doubt I go back.

If you love meat, you'll love this place. The service is great, the food is great. The only problem that may occur is waiting for your table even when it was reserved ahead of time. The place is nice, but it's not recommended if you intend to go there for a romantic date. Overall, it's a great place and the money is well worth it.

Dining with friends we recently discovered this new favorite. The salad bar is like nothing else in the Twin Cities with fresh cheeses, meats and cold vegeables. The cold asparagus is wonderful. Once through with the salad bar comes the main feature, meat, and lots of it. It's all very tender and seasoned perfectly. For an after-dinner treat, try the special liquid tiramisu drink...a great way to end the meal.

All in all, a fun way to spend an evening!

If you love meat and lots of it, this is your restaurant. Waiters dressed as gauchos visit your table bearing heavy skewers of beef, chicken, pork, sausage and lamb which they cut right onto your plate in this all-you-can-eat meat bonanza. The meat is beautifully seasoned and every cut I've had was great. However, some of my Midwestern friends found the meat a little bit too rare for their taste. Personally, I've had a few cuts a bit too well done. This is because the gauchos cut a few slices from each hunk of meat before they rushed back to the kitchen to heat it up. As a result the meat is always nice and hot, but you have to watch out for the size of the skewer to determine if the meat will be cooked to your taste. Smaller skewers have usually made more trips into the kitchen for reheat.
Vegetarians will not go hungry. A very full and varied (from lox to potato salad) salad bar bar is included in the price of the meal but can be ordered separately for vegetarian diners. Unlimited sides of garlic mash potatos, fried bananas, and fried polenta are also included with meal.
I've been to Fogo De Chao 5 times in the first three months that the Minneapolis branch opened and two times I've had to wait up to one hour even though we had reservations. The hostessing staff (four pubescent high school girls) were barely functional, but the wait staff was suberb. The management was more responsive when we complained of the wait. The frantic pace set but the guachos made the dining experience less than calm, but the meat was always hot and tasty. The decor is high end and is definitely a place for first dates, large groups, birthdays, and other special occasions. But the noise and frenetic gauchos makes it a little less than perfect for a romantic dinner.
However, everyone I've sent there have raved about the place. Well, we are in the heart of meat and potato country. At least, now they know properly seasoned meat does not need A1.

Pros: All you can eat meat, seasoned perfectly at very reasonable price for downtown restaurant.

Cons: Pubescent host staff and long waits.
