.

I was excited to work with Trevor from CertaPro to paint the exterior trim on my brick cottage-style house. His quote was professionally prepared, and he seemed to both know what he was doing and care about the project. He was even willing to work with me on a short timeline, promising that it was no more than 2-3 days' work and his crew would get started midday on a Tuesday, being completely finished by the weekend. I hired him, even though I had quotes for significantly less, because of reviews I found online and the confidence he inspired in the quoting process.

Then the problems started.

They found a couple boards that were rotting (typical for a 60+ year old house), and I okayed replacing them. The board replacement was shoddily done - they replaced only about 4 feet of three boards right in a row, and the end result looked like a bad patch. This took 5+ tries for them to fix.

They painted the entire house (but not the garage) the wrong color - matching the old off-white color instead of the white window frames, which clashed horribly. They agreed to re-paint the right color, but this set them back on the timeline.

They again replaced only a small section of the rotted board on the garage, leaving both a section of rotted board and an obvious patch. Once I finally got them to replace the board (as quoted) instead of patching it, they broke another board in removing the siding. This happened several times, and each time, they attempted to "patch" the broken board with caulking, which looked horrendous. The crew even tried to convince me at one point that the broken board / poor patch was not something they had done, but was already there.

They removed the screen on my screened-in porch (??) to paint the framing, and never managed to re-install it correctly. They must have tried 10 times to fix the screen, but couldn't get the bubbles out, and royally disfigured the porch walls and trim in the process.

They didn't properly prep the front door before painting, so no matter how long it dried before closing, it continued to stick to the frame.

On top of these issues, the crew and (eventually Trevor) was visibly irritated with me for being unwilling to accept the shoddy work, continually saying that they really needed to close the job and get paid. I would have been more than happy to write a check in full, as soon as the quoted job was completed - which should have been that first week, not almost two months later. Also, not showing up when they said they would, assuring me the crew chief would complete a specific job himself to make sure it was done correctly and then sending someone else, not listening to or ignoring my concerns - in all, this was a horrible experience.

I finally gave up on them and brought in another contractor to fix the mess they left behind.

If you are solely looking for someone to paint - on a newer home, or one with no wood replacement issues - CertaPro may be able to get your job done. With my older Lakewood home, it was a nightmare.

These painters came highly recommended by some of the other wives on our base. We were delighted with the work they did and they keep you up to date with their job status each and every day. The project was finished 2 days sooner than expected!
