Unfortunately, our experience left a lot to be desired.
It started with the hostess. She was totally oblivious to anything. Whenever we asked her a question, she looked at us like we were nuts. They were all so serious, like we were

Havana Central is a cool place to have some good Cuban food. This is a nice impressive place for a hang out. The food is never disappointing. The live band is an added bonus. The place is a little loud, between the guest talking and the band, nothing unusual for any restaurant think they may have bad acoustics. The wait wasn't too bad, went around 7pm. The wait staff seems very busy and can tend to ignore you but pleasant at the same time. The bathroom service is annoying, good for the restaurant and the chic taking tips but I hate the obligation of paying cause I need to use the potty. Ignoring that ,did I mention the food is awesome.

we've been going here for about 4 years now, had our first date there and last night celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary, always great food and excellent times. the mojitos are the best in town. you can't have just one!!!. one thing though, last night we had a waiter stop by our table for on reason or another and he was a conceited snob. our normal waiter last night was excellent as always. IF YOU HAPPEN TO GET A WAITER NAMED BOGDAN, GET A DIFFERENT TABLE. LITTLE WISE-GUY SNOB, WITH A BAD ATTITUDE...other wise every moment we spend there is incredible. give this place 10 stars if possible. gotta ditch BOGDAN though

I came here with friends for happy hour, the drinks and food are out of this world. This is authentic Cuban food. You will enjoy the live band and dancers that gather around on the ground level. Havana, can be loud, took my parents here for dinner and they thought it was loud (although we sat upstairs), but they did enjoy the food. The paella is a must. Viva Cuba

We had a hankering for Cuban food and knew that we wanted to avoid the touristy Times Square area, but didn't want to venture too far away from our hotel on 53rd. We kicked around the idea of Havana Central a few times over a couple of days but kept dismissing it because of the location.

Fast forward to the last day of our trip. We had just finished a walking tour of Times Square from its beginnings and were hungry for lunch. We'd checked out of our hotel and didn't have much time before we needed to head for the airport. We knew where Havana Central was and decided to take a chance.

We ordered the sandwich de Pavo (smoked turkey) and sandwich de pollo extraordinaire (grilled chicken). Both were, ultimately, food at its most basic level but beyond basic nourishment they really weren't much. No real flavor, very bland and pretty much what one would expect from a chain such as Applebee's. Needless to say, we were very disappointed.

Went on friday night to the Havana uptown. Cannot say enough good things about the place. We came in for a quick drink and ended up staying for dinner. There was a live band that was great, the food was fabulous and the service couldnt be better. Our whole group all agreed - we needed to come back - and soon!!!!!

I visit Havana Central very often because i just love the food and the atmosphere. As soon as i enter the restaurant i feel very welcome by the hostess.when i last visit the restaurant i was sat next to the window which was a bit cold and when asked the hostess if she can change our table she without hesitation changed our table. Our server was awesome and of course the food was delicious. i ordered a churrasco (skirt steak) would've thought it was going to take long to be ready but it didn't. i got my food fast and well done. I have no complaints about Havana. They also have the best mojitos, and I try to make it to their happy hours as often as i can!

I visited the 46th st restaurant just a few months ago and had such a great time that I wanted to take my parents and cousins to your 17th st restaurant. The Pernil was like our granmother made back home. The Ropa Vieja and Beef Stew were also excellent. The mojitos are the best I have had in New York. I want to thank the chef and staff for making our evening unforgettable.

Your team at Hanava Central has made us lifetime customers.

Great food, vibrant atmosphere. Good restaurant centrally located near Times Square and Theater District in New York City. Reasonably priced and huge portions. You could probably share unless you are really hungry.

My fourth time at Havana Central and I'm still coming back for more. I can't pick out the best thing about this restaurant because it is ALL so good--food (fantastic Cuban sandwich and Tres Leche dessert), ambiance (old world fans and palm trees), service (attentive without being intrusive), prices (very reasonable for the quality of the food), music (makes me want to visit Cuba.) I enjoy this restaurant so much that I am having my Christmas Eve dinner there with relatives.

A monkey could have delivered me better food. This was the WORST place I have EVER been to in my ENTIRE life. I would NOT take the time to write such a horrible review if it wasn't true. This past weekend we were in NYC, and were walking around to find a place to eat. The menu outside looked half-way decent and we were starving so we just decided to stop here. WORST decision EVER. Everything that possibly could have gone wrong at a restaurant, went wrong. When we first walked in, the hostess' were on the phone giggling and laughing and took about 5 minutes to hang up and sit us with a completely rude attitude. She sat us at a table in the corner that still had cups on it from the last people, and the table was completely unstable. No waiter acknowledged us for about 15 minutes, so we had to find a small menu to put on the leg of the table so it would be sturdy. The waiter finally came to us and got our drinks (which took about 15 minutes JUST for water). He then took our order, and I was already ready to leave cause the service was so bad, and I should have gone with my instinct because what happened next was just unacceptable. He brings our food with a COMPLETELY NOTICEABLE string of hair running across my food. I sat there in shock, and waited another 10 minutes for him to finally come back to the table, as I was almost in tears. He took the food back unapologetically and brought me (what i'm sure was the same plate, he just took the hair off) and dropped it on the table, then did not come back the rest of the time until we were done!!! Then my boyfriend had to get up, walk across the room, get the water pitcher and pour us more water because no one would come to check on us. IT WAS UNDENIABLY THE WORST FOOD EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for it. I would NOT suggest this place to anyone! Honestly, stay far away from this awful restaurant, they do not know what CUSTOMER SERVICE means or SANITARY FOOD!

We have been to the 46th Street location twice. If you're looking for a quiet restaurant, Havana Central is not the place for you. The food is good, but it is very noisy. The music was blasting - you could hardly hear the other person speaking to you. Prices are good.

I went last night with a few girlfriends, and we had a great time. I made a 7:30pm reservation, we showed up about 5 minutes late, waited another 5 to be seated. Our server, Crystal, was AMAZING. I haven't had such good service in a while, as we've become so used to the general "I'm too cool for this job" attitude most wait staff have in NYC. Our drinks were never empty before she asked if we'd like another round, she answered all our questions about the dishes in great detail, she was very attentive. As for the food, had a beef empanda to start, was good but not amazing. I had the Pollo al Ajillo entree with yellow rice and black beans, very delicious, very garlicy, a little salty but I love salt so no complaints there. We shared a plate of fried sweet plantains, also very yummy. My friends had the steak salad, and they shared the empanada sampler. Everyone was stuffed by the time we left. We had the drink of the day - only $6! - which was some strawberry puree + vodka concoction, great. Overall, great atmosphere, great service, fun friendly environment, great Cuban food.

I've gone to this restaurant several times and the service is great. I've had the luck to get the same waitress. She's great and friendly. I just had lunch here with my boyfriend and I have to honestly say that if I were a food critic this place would be DONE. First, I'll admit that I'm very hard to please when it comes to eating out, but I really tried to give this place at shot as it came highly recommended from my co-worker. The decor is beautiful and feels very inviting. Although our server was difficult to understand due to a heavy accent, she was very friendly. I ordered a mojito and the churrasco (skirt steak) medium rare with yellow rice and red beans. The mojito was good. My steak however, came well done and lacked ANY seasoning, it was as if they just threw it on a grilled and brought it out. It was the worst steak ever. My rice arrived hot but hard. I actually had clumped burned pieces of rice on my plate, basically the burned rice you get from the bottom of the pan. My boyfriend on the other hand was satisfied with his meal, he ordered the arroz con pollo. I tried some of his food, and it was alot better than what I had ordered. Personally, I was very disappointed with Havana and don't think that I will eat here again.

The restaurant, those a little Disney-esque, was a really fun experience with some out-of-town guests. The shrimp and saffron rice was delicious - I highly recommend it. Friends tried the Cuban burger and the chicken sandwich, and everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals. The service was a little spotty, but our waiter was very nice, even if he was absent for large chunks of time.

The atmosphere was very lively, but the food is average. The beef empanada was really good, but the churrascara tasted like the char grill. The tostones were tasteless. The place is also very loud. Go in after 8:30 for the live band.

I really wouldn't go here if I had a choice.

We happened to stumble upon this restaurant while looking for a place to eat Sunday brunch. We noticed its bright neon sign while walking down 46th street by Times Square. We were hesitant at first, but we decided to give it a shot. I must preface my opinions of this restaurant by stating that my family is Cuban and that should qualify us to effectively evaluate the food offered by this restaurant. This restaurant is fantastic! The atmosphere is great and full of energy...the decor and music in the restaurant resemble old Havana style. The food was wonderful. We absolutely stuffed ourselves. The sandwiches, maduros, tostones, tres leches, empanadas, and ropa vieja were awesome. The sangria was terrific. This place will certainly be a routine stop for me and my family whenever we're in the city. Give this place a shot...you won't be disappointed!

Food is good-not-great but don't bother with take out/catering. Did not send all of the food we paid for; when I called to ask for either a second delivery or a credit, hostess promised a second deliver that never came.

Called the morning after and was promised a manager would call. for resolution. They still have my money AND my food.

The food is excellent, the service has been great ever time I've been, the ambiance is wonderful and the live music is outstanding. The tapas are tasty, but try the garlic chicken breast or the skirt steak. YUM!! It is noisy, so it's not really set up for a romantic dinner, but it bustles and is a happenin' place. My friends and I are there most Friday nights.

Pros: Great ambiance, HUGE portions of tasty food.

Cons: Noisy. Better to have reservations.

Went to Havana Central on a Saturday before theater. Great atmosphere and not very crowded. The food was fantastic. The service was very good. For drinks, apps and dinner we paid under $60 for 2 people! I will go back and will continue to recommend this place to friends. I also want to try the location in Union Sq.

Pros: Great Atmosphere - Fantastic Food

Our party ordered different dishes with variable results. The empanada sampler was pretty tasty. The paella was good and the serving was huge so we were able to share this. The pernil and carne guisada were both average. Their drinks were worth it and we enjoyed the sangria. The servers were attentive to our needs. We liked the atmosphere of the branch in times square much more than the one in union square. We had so much food that we had enough for take home.

This is a better place to stop in for a drink than it is a place to eat. The ambiance is great, it's right near the central meeting point of Union Square, they have a list of summery drinks to choose from. I'd stop in again after work with my girlfriends for a drink. But then I'd go have dinner somewhere else. Two problems: food and service. The food was not bad, it's simply standard and unexciting. My friend got a r[a]ck of ribs that wasn't bad, I got a vegetarian platter that consisted of a pile of bland veggies and plain rice. When we were ready to leave, the wait staff of the crowded restaurant was simply overrun. It took us 20 minutes to get a check, despite many attempts at meaningful eye contact with the wait staff.

Pros: Ambience, selection of drinks at the bar

Cons: Disappointing food, inattentive wait staff

Great atmosphere. Decorated to resemble Old havana - Spanish music and bar with 2 TVs. Small tables. Decent menu- has a variety of different cuban dishes. Have been there 3 times in the recent past. Liked the shrimp and garlic friend had the burger -said it was good. I've had the mariscada which was good too.
Nice drinks also

Friendly and accomodating wait staff-will definately return

Our dinner was a disaster. After we were seated and ordered our meals, we were asked to move because the restaurant had "overbooked." They moved us upstairs to an area where they were setting up for a private party -- we had no server, and had to flag down people setting up for the party to get us drinks, silverware, water, etc. Then, we were asked to move AGAIN because the private party was about to start. When I told the manager about it, he apologized and gave me his card and told me to come back and he would give me a discount. Considering the absolute ridiculousness of being asked to move TWICE, I will never be using that card. On top of the horrible service, the food was very average.

Very nice design when compared to other midtown latino restaurants. Still going through some growing pains week 6 but improving steadily. The food is good, the after work scene is also very good. The service is sometimes spotty but not for lack of trying.
