Thank you Rob West plumbing! While one of our unit owners was out of town, a leak had found it's way to 3 lower units of our building in Chicago! You were here in a flash. Problem solved without any drama. Great follow up with your in house electrician to check the light sockets that turned into shower heads. We know who to call when we need help in Chicago. Courteous and reassuring in a time of need. Fair prices too.

DANK Haus German American Cultural Center is a 70,000 sq ft facility built in 1927. The plumbers at Rob West navigate our 1927 plumbing with efficiency and professionalism. Our pricing likely reflects our nonprofit status but at the same time any leak here is a big job. Rob West Plumbing offers alternatives, work arounds and courteous emergency service. Vielen dank!

I very highly recommend that Rob West Plumbing company do your Chicago plumbing repairs.

They have been helping me deal and solve my water problems due to flooding, heavy rains and broken pipes,
high water levels. Rob has installed a high lift station in my backyard to stop sewer flooding backup into the house, installed
drain tiles, sump pumps, put in an extra pump with back up power batteries installed.

Rob has constantly come back to my house to check, improve as needed. Rob and his company can very importantly be reached personally and they come that day or the next day.

Rob is very patient dealing with an elderly and sick person like me. He does the best he can to work out reasonable prices. He talks with and answers questions you and wife may have. I am a strong positive reference you can call me for Rob West.

Yours Truly,
Gregory L

I was not satisfied with the level of service Rob West did for a running toliet. The company has a terrible track record of returning phone calls in a timely manner. The person who did the work tried to make a one day repair job into a two day job and charge me. Unacceptable considering it was my 90 year old Aunt's home. I immediately called them not to return for the second visit. The next day, the latch on the toliet broke which confirm that they did not do a quality inspection. I called to inform Rob that my 90 year old Aunt could not flush the toliet. They did not seem concern that it was a Senior citizen home. I will never use them again.

I own a condo in a 100yr old 4 flat NW of the loop and a portion of my cast iron soil stack needed to be modified to accomodate renovation. Rob West was the only company which could start the next day and did not complain to me about the difficulty of the job. The work was completed to my satisfaction regarding workmanship, schedule and price.

Rob is very reliable. He responds quickly to my emails, which is always appreciated. He recently made a weekend service call for a near-emergency at my house, and his pricing was fair and competitive (I had shopped around ahead of time). He showed up on-time and stayed witin the estimated price of the job. Tenants reported no disruptions. I would not hesitate to call him again.

NIGHTMARE UPDATE 7/19/2010

THE LATEST: Apparently, Rob's now looking for another attorney to help him avoid his responsibilities and thumb his nose at the law. Thank God for the Attorney General http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/conscomp.pdf .

Background: Hired Rob West as a GC for a bathroom a couple months ago. Wrote him a big check up front. Then he disappeared. In the six-week span of the project, I think he was here twice for 15 minutes. As to his workers and subcontractors, here's a testament to their work:

- Plumbing misalignment, drains and feeds not in sync (needed to be redone);
- Shower pan grade wrong (needed to be redone);
- Bad drywall installation: bowed wall (needed to be redone);
- Shower step-up wrongly installed (needed to be redone);
- Shower soap niche poorly installed (needed to be redone);
- Hole too small for sink faucet installation (wall tiling needed to be redone);
- Medicine cabinet repeatedly installed off center (needed to be redone);
- Faucet leak; RW's plumber admitted to not properly sealing joints (needed to be redone);
- Vanity, faucet, sink, and drain off center (all needed to be reinstalled requiring retiling a section of wall);
- Repeated sink leaking at drain assembly due to improper installation (needed to be reinstalled);
- Drain assembly crooked due to improper alignment (needed to be reinstalled);
- Shower ceiling bubbling due to improper surface preparation (needed to be redone).

What a mess. Insult to injury: Not only did this take twice as long as the contract stipulated, the topper... Rob ultimately abandoned the project significantly incomplete. Now I'm left with considerable damages he refuses to address. Let alone the gouge taken out of a brand new high-end Italian vanity; we??ve sadly been told by an expert floor and stone inspector that the new travertine floor needs to be completely replaced. It too was installed incorrectly. That's close to a thousand bucks in brand new stone that will need to be just thrown away. What a waste.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK! According to Illinois law (815 ILCS 505/2Q (c): "A person engaged in the business of home repair, as defined in Section 2(a)(1) of the Home Repair Fraud Act, who fails or refuses to commence or complete work under a contract or an agreement for home repair, shall return the down payment and any additional payments made by the consumer within 10 days after a written demand sent to him by certified mail by the consumer or the consumer's legal representative or by a law enforcement or consumer agency acting on behalf of the consumer."

Well, Rob got that letter 10 days ago demanding $5,934.50. His lawyer then told me: "I am confident you will prevail in recovering all your money shortly." But so far, NOTHING! As I said up top, Rob is now looking for another attorney.

Bottom line: If it's anything like his modus operandi, restitution will be late and inadequate. This is EXACTLY the kind of guy the authors of the Home Repair and Remodeling Act, the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, and the Home Repair Fraud Act had in mind.

Advice: BEWARE OF ROB WEST PLUMBING!

Cons: Wants to get paid for the time it takes to fix screw-ups.

Message from Rob West Plumbing, Inc.

Sometimes plumbing issues are straight-forward; sometimes they are only the tip of the iceberg. At Rob West Plumbing, we want to make sure we do the job right the first time, rather than having to come back multiple times to fix the same problem.

At Rob West Plumbing, we look at potential "diseases" in your plumbing system, in addition to treating the immediate and obvious symptoms. When we work on a plumbing problem, we look carefully at all parts of the system. Plumbing systems are complex, with many distinct parts that often get installed, repaired, or replaced at different times.

Our plumbers take great care to make sure that the work they are asked to do will actually fix the problem. We always address unsafe or problem areas in a customer??s system. We try to alert owners to potential problems to help them better budget their time and money, as well as prevent costly emergencies or "do-overs" resulting from recurring plumbing problems.

Professional

Part of Rob West Plumbing??s progressive approach includes an auspicious use of technology to enhance quality control and customer experience. Each plumber is equipped with a netbook that is wirelessly connected to the company server at all times. This gives our plumbers instant access to all customer records, histories and notes. The system also allows our plumbing professionals to accurately log time, invoice the customer onsite and securely swipe payment cards at the point of service. If your issue is more complex and requires unique attention, our plumbers can even video conference from the site to Rob at company headquarters!

Rob West Plumbing plumbers are professionals, and take pride in being neat, clean, and customer-friendly. We respect your property, and always take the utmost care to minimize disruption in or damage to the work space. We always use materials like towels, tarps and cardboard to protect your floors or fixtures, and do a thorough clean up before we leave.

Environmentally Responsible

Before starting Rob West Plumbing, Rob worked for Greenpeace for a number of years. Our company is interested in the preservation of the Earth's natural resources, and we are working hard at minimizing our impact on the environment.

In the area of plumbing, there are several opportunities to minimize our impact on the environment, and Rob West Plumbing tries to take advantage of them all. We meticulously plan and measure to ensure that there are no wasted materials and that pipes follow the most efficient route from water source to outlet. Finding "the quickest route from A to B" helps save on hot water heating costs and water usage, both of which conserve energy and resources. We can also help customers choose fixtures that help conserve water, such as low-flow toilets or shower-heads. Great pains are taken at the job site to reduce waste, nearly all of which is recycled to its optimum purpose.

On a more personal level, Rob runs his vehicles on biofuels and vegetable oil. Rob also harvests rain water runoff in barrels to cultivate his own herb and vegetable garden on company premises.
