I have been going to Sunset Vet for over 20 years and have complete faith in Dr. Hall. She is a very compassionate, caring person and my dogs have thrived with her help. Dr. Hall is an excellent vet. I have also seen Dr. Kelley on occasion and she is also a compassionate caring person. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

I took our family's guinea pig to Dr. Kelley's office after one of my kids accidentally;y dropped him. He had broken his legs and Dr. Kelley took xrays and splinted her back legs. She followed her progress until she was fully healed. Her fees were reasonable and her and her staff were very nice. I'd recommend them to all.

I took my cat to these people because she had a lump on her tummy. First they said not to worry, it's nothing. Well, the lump got much larger and they told me they aren't sure if they should do surgery since she's an older cat. We talked a bit more to the vet about her health, and was told they can do surgery because she'll be okay .Are these people for real? Well, she had her surgery. I received a call and was told that they had to do more surgery than anticipated, since she had another lump undetected, but she came out of surgery and doing well. I received my first call from them with this great feeling that she was okay! Unfortunately, 10 minutes later I received another call from these "vets" telling me she died. Apparently the breathing tube was removed too soon. The last thing I requested from them was that she be cremated and I wanted a clip of her hair. Well I never received a clip of her hair, but I finally received her remains..... IN A SEALED WOODEN URN! I was curious so I asked the "vet" how do the know it's my baby? The answer was that they tested the ashes to make sure we have our babies. Well, to top it off, I called the people who did the cremation and asked them about testing ashes....guess what? NOT!
they sealed her urn so there was no way anyone could have opened her urn to test her....they must think people are stupid....I know I was for taking her there. If you need a good vet, go to Pet's Unlimited. I'ts out of the way for some, but so worth it!

Oh, I almost forgot....I received a card from them saying how sorry they were for our loss. At the bottom of this card was noted "we did additional testing after she passed and guessed that she could have lived at least 5 more months. I DID NOT WISH ANYONE TO INVADE HER REMAINS.
I guess some get into this career because they truly do care (Pet's Unlimited) or they choose this career as a big paycheck!

STEER CLEAR OF THESE PEOPLE. If you care, proceed with caution!!

I have a dog and cat, and have been going to Sunset Veterinary Hospital for the last seven years. I like all the doctors there, but Paul Bannow is especially wonderful. My dog and cat are both rescues and both shy. Dr. Bannow has an amazingly gentle touch with animals, and he is the most competent veterinarian I?ve ever met. He performs a very focused hands-on exam with my pets and can usually tell immediately exactly what?s wrong. When appropriate, he will run a lab test to confirm his diagnosis, but he never, ever orders unnecessary tests or medications. I?ve had the experience with previous vets recommending unnecessary tests, x-rays and even surgery. In contrast, Dr. Bannow tries to keep my costs down (and this is something he never mentions or seeks credit for, he just does it). But his top priority is clearly the animals? well-being, and he won?t hesitate to tell me when I need to do something differently, such as giving my dog fewer treats when she gets overweight. In short, his professional competence, his gentle love for animals, and his rock-solid integrity all make Dr. Bannow a true treasure.

Pros: Dr. Bannow is terrific.

Cons: He is very popular, so you do need to schedule ahead.

I took my cat there twice. The first time they made us wait over an hour! A week later I had to take my cat back as she was not feeling well. When I saw their bill I was shocked! My cat's been to other vets before and no one has ever over-charged me like they did! I will never go back!

Pros: Parking

Cons: Service and Cost

about 2 month ago my puppy started having loose / yellowish stools. when i first asked the doc, she said most likely food. Switch food, no change. a month later she developed diarrhea and rash. brought her in was told to keep her on a bland diet and give perdisone and benadryl for rash. Week later rash was improving but she started squating and straining when she peed. They told me it was normal since she is on perdisone. I asked them to run a urine exam for UTI anyways to be on the safe side(it came back positive). They put her on antibiotics. Rash reappeared. I was told its not probably an infection from scratching her allergy. did a skin scrape for mites, came back negative. her stools were still loose so i requested a giardia test. Guess what, that came back possitive. she was on metronidazole for 5 days. tested negative for giardia. still had loose stool and a week later started diarrhea again. they put her on panacur for 5 days they were sure it was giardia. 5 days later, stool is negative for giardia and she still has yellow, loose stool with blood in it. Now they are telling me that they suspect she has colitis and that i should put her on metronidazole for another month. When i called to talk to the nurse to ask questions and figure out how they made the diagnoses (without a simple guess, since she had mucus in her stool), the nurse became very rude. So the moral of my story is if you want to diagnose your pet yourself, and then ask them to run the tests and enjoy being treated rudely if you have questions about the diagnoses or treatment, this is a place for you. if not look for another place. BTW every single time i came in for an appointment the wait was at least 30 minutes. (although they gave me a discount once, after i waited for over an hour)
ps: the vet was very nice, and there are 2 staff members that are nice as well. If they weren't constantly misdiagnosing my pet and kept showing pills down her throat for 2 month the review would have been better :-)

I take both of my dogs here for all of their regular vet visits and have never had a bad experience. One of my dogs is a difficult patient and usually needs to wear a muzzle. They are always so patient and kind to him. My other dog has had many medical problems so we have been at the vet quite often. They are always so kind, caring and gentle. They are very good about giving me all of the options that are available to me and are upfront with any costs associated with any of the treatments. I can't imagine taking my kids anywhere else.

I've taken my first dog to Dr. Paul since she was 3 years old (now 15), and our second dog since we got him 8 years ago. Dr. Paul is kind, compassionate, and wonderful with the animals and their owners. He's also reasonable and respectful of your decisions with what is best for your furry friends. I've tried other vets when we moved to Palo Alto and San Mateo, but I keep coming back and commuting to see Dr. Paul. I can't rave about him enough!

We have brought dogs and cats to Sunset Veterinary Hospital for many years. We have had experiences with 4-5 vets there. We take our two dogs and two cats for regular care with Dr. Michelle Kelly, who is excellent. They have assisted us with several dying animals and were informative, helpful and sensitive. Their approach has always been respectful of our views while telling us about different options and the relative expenses. They try to be available and flexible with appointments. Everyone there really cares about animals and their owners.

I have had nothing but good experiences with Sunset Veterinary. Other then normal checkups, I have taken Sparky in for an injured leg and torn dew claw pads twice. Sparky was given good quality care and the price was reasonable.

I brought my dog here so that she can get her annual check up. the person at the fron desk greeted me, but the doctor wasn't too nice. Although he did everything that he was suppose to, i didn't feel like he was taking the extra step to really give my dog a complete check up.

I would not personally recommend this place to my friends as when I brought my dog in for stomach pains, they quoted me for the dr's visit and then called me later to say that they will need to run blood tests, x-rays and 'other' exams to see what was wrong. When I asked them for the price, they gave me a ball park figure, which was approximately $850.00 and said it could be more but will let me know. After I picked up my dog, they said all the tests turned out fine but they would recommend having a specialist take a look at the x-ray as they may have missed something. Total costs was $1200+ to find out my dog was fine and to change his dog food.
