My favorite store in town ?? variety of excellent sports equipment for competitive prices. They do price matching too but their prices are already matched to the lowest I saw on the internet. What??s more important is that the staff is knowledgeable, professional, and helpful to buy stuff based on your needs.

I just bought there a snowboard with the rest of the equipment, boots, bindings, some accessories. I??ve snowboarded for several seasons but I??ve always rented and now decided to shed out some money on my own gear. I can??t thank enough a guy named Ted who works in the store. Although before I came to the store, I did some homework, Ted still spent significant amount of time with me choosing the right snowboard, bindings, boots, even goggles and then putting this all up together for me. He also warmed up the boots for me to wear them for a little while in the store so that they would break faster and fit me better. Although I didn??t deal much with the rest of the staff in the department, they seemed as knowledgeable and courteous as Ted was. Thanks again Ted. I can??t wait for the snowboarding season to begin.

Listen If you don't believe me you can read the other reviews no kidding, Paragon Sports has one the worst managers period. The guy that I am putting on the spot is Mike Kim Racist douche-bag. He thought i was stealing boots when i was actually just trying them on walking around the store and breaking them in. An associate told me that when i walked in the department he specifically pointed at me and told the associate to have an eye out for me. I even tried speaking to him and I totally thought he was autistic. A highly functional autistic is the 2nd floor manager of paragon. GOOD JOB for the GENIUS HIRING!!!. And then to make things better they get a cheesy Guido security guard to harass me. I wanted to be a good customer, try on some boots, break them in and leave. They had to make my life so much harder. I personally want to thank the associate who was honest with me, explained the situation for me and expressed his frustration with his job and that chubby chode Mike Kim. Douche

I can remember multiple times checking for items online, then finding out their stock is different in the store. Sometimes I've found they had things when I didn't think they did, and vice versa. Now I just don't bother checking online and just visit the store.

They have a VERY large selection of snow gear, which is mostly why I go.

Customer service is Ok. Catch the right person to help you and they might cut you a deal to get the sale..

Moved to NYC from Conn. Was excited to see such a big, established outdoor supply store. Went to buy some crampons. None of the staff seemed to know what i was talking about. Two staff directed me to the wrong place in the store. Put it down to a bad day, but each time I have gone for other things I get the same crappy service. Try EMS or Tents and Trails - MUCH better.

This probably the most frustrating store that I know of, just cause they always have what I want, but in order to get it, the struggle makes it barely worth it. The sales staff can be inconsiderate, and will either completely ignore you or be super aggressive depending on whether or not their department uses commissions. Still, if you need some really good sporting equipment in new york city, then I'm sorry to say it, but you'll end up in Paragon. It's got everything you'll every need, if you can make it through the shopping experience.

My mother is a 60 year old woman who went into Paragon because I purchased a 100 gift certificate for her for Xmas. She is a swim instructor. She is always desparately trying to find appropriate swimwear, sports bras and sportswear that she can use for work. Being older and working in a pool, finding the right items can be tough. I thought Paragon would be the perfect place to try to find the specialty items.

She went, found some pieces and purchased them with the intention of trying them in the privacy of her home and returning what did not work. A week later she went to return the items and was accused ob being a "STYLIST" and could not return them. Granted she purchased over $800 worth of merchandise. However, in paragon that bill racks up very quickly. There is a clause on the back of the receipt that states items purchase as props for shoots, etc...can not be returned.

She purchased about 15 items....different sizes and styles of similar items in an effort to find something that would fit her comfortably for work. She explained that she was not a stylist, just someone trying to find the right fit and not having any luck. THEY REFUSED TO RETURN THE MERCHANDISE CLAIMING SHE WAS A STYLIST.

She was beside herself. A 60 year old swim instructor does not have $800 to throw away just because some company is making up insane policies to keep people's money. She even called the cops to explain the situation. Even they tried to convince the manager to do the right thing...the manager's response was to take him to court...that he would prove she was a stylist. THIS IS CRAZY!!

This is a large store taking advantage of an innocent shopper. She was making a return in the correct amount of time...the correct way..and being told no for an INSANE REASON. Now she has to take them to court????? This is crazy! She is being penalized for purchasing items and needing to return them because the fit was incorrect. I feel so badly for my mother.

This was supposed to be a nice gift which has turned into a nightmare. This NYC "Landmark" should not be allowed to do this to people! So much for customer service. They treated her like a criminal....like she shoplifted items, not someone who was following their policy of returning items within 30 days.

I am so angry at this situation...not sure if I should call a lawyer, media friends....or scream from every internet mountaintop about this incredibly WRONG practice. Soooooo.....for those of you that buy items....even a few too many items because god forbid you want to try them at home and think about your purchase...THIS IS NOT THE STORE FOR YOU...they might claim you are a stylist and KEEP YOUR MONEY!!!!!!

I created this citysearch account solely to warn people about this horrible place. I ordered a watch from them on a Thursday and put down a deposit. 3 different staff members swore that I would have the watch before Feb 4th (my boyfriend's birthday which was about two weeks later.) The Monday following that a woman called from their shipping department demanding more money from me because it was a special order. She would not tell me her name. I immediately went to the store and Brian swore to me that the watch would be in within the next week and a 1/2 at which point i reiterated that if it did not arrive by the 4th i did not want it. Noone would take my complaint regarding the crazy screaming woman from the shipping department. February 4th rolls around and I call to see if the watch had arrived and I was told "someone from shipping would hopefully call me back the NEXT day." Noone would answer my questions, make eye contact at the store, or tell me IF the watch would ever arrive. I had to cancel the order and find another gift.

I have been trying to buy a pair of sunglasses from Paragon for the last 10 days and I have been given the complete runaround. They may have extensive stock but that's where the pros of shopping here end. I have been told a different story by almost everyone I have spoken to. I have been given misinformation from "the glasses are on order" ; " they came in the other day and have all sold out" ; "they are no longer making them" to "we have them upstairs in the stock room, they just need to be unpacked". Come on guys - get your act together. There is no excuse for such poor and oftentimes rude customer service. I wouldn't mind being told they are not available but just give me the correct information. I will not be shopping here again, even if they are the only store stocking what I need. Jack Rabbit and SBR Multisports are much more friendly and helpful.

Moving to NY from CA where sporting good stores are everywhere I am used to sales staff that take pride and are knowledgable in the dept they work. Too bad there are not more choices in NY. But until someone opens a decent sporting good store where you can get staff that is more than about being cool, ignoring customers and talking to each other I will buy online or in CA when I am visiting!

Cons: Expensive, rude staff that lack knowledge on dept working

As a person who has been shopping there for over 14 years, I now only go there as a last resort.
The quality of service ranges from mediocre to down right neglectful.
I used to really love shopping there, but the way it currently caters to the tourist crowd leaves local NY'ers cold.

A large portion of the staff doesn't take any pride in their service as they know that a large majority of the shoppers will never return to the store. Some just outright ignore you. The old man with the glasses at the golf dept is one of the worst. I've never been treated so rudely while shopping for a $500 driver. I now buy all my golfing gear from NY Golf and they aren't much better.

The snowboard section is equally bad during the winter as they are more concerned about their "coolness" and talking amongst themselves ( mocking the customers). What the hell is that about? It's like they never left high school.

Recently my girlfriend was so disgusted listening to a bunch of idiots working at the fitness/camping area swearing up a storm and rating female customer's bodies.I mean -c'mon at least do that off the floor. Do they think that customers can't hear them or are they assuming that everyone is a tourist and not understand?

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is they still do have the best range of sporting goods in lower Manhattan. Since I live close, I continue to buy stuff from them with clenched teeth. I boycott them whenever I can, but in this part of the city they are pretty much the only game in town and they smugly know it.

Pros: great selection of products and brands-best in lower Manhattan

Cons: high prices, lousy/ uncaring service with attitude

The salespeople in the snowboard department are teenage boys who are too clueless to work in askateboard shop in the east village. Every other word out of my salesman's mouth was a swearword, and he was not knowledgable at all. Ridiculous. I'd rather shop at a prison gift shop.

I took the ski shuttle from Paragon to Hunter Mtn. I'm a ski enthusiast and live in NYC. I used to keep a car in NYC and was able to ski wherever I wanted. I no longer have my ride so I decided to give Paragon's shuttle a try.
HUGE MISTAKE!
The staff were late, rude and incompetent. We left NYC almost an hour late (All passengers were seated on the bus waiting for them to get it together).
Once there, I had a great time.
The trip back was just as frustrating as the ride up. The late staff appeared to be intoxicated. ( Dude, it's ok to have a few beers at the lodge, but hey...we're waiting .....)
I'll definitely rent a car from now on and wont put up with the really poor attitudes of the staff, the unexplained delays and, worst of all, the frustration)

I went down to Paragon for the first time today. Although they seemed to have a lot of variety, the salespeople that I encountered were terrible. One had no idea what he was talking about and the other one was extremely rude. I won't be back.

From water sports to winter sports - you'll find it all here. Great selection, friendly staff and promt check out. Get there during the end of season sales for the best values.

Paragon provides the widest choice of quality gear accross the spectrum of sports and outdooe activities. There are sometimes better places to go if you are looking for a specific sport, but if you are just shopping, or don't want to go to a specialty store - this is the place. Except for the sales, the prices are not the best, but you are assured of quality products, and the service and selection are outstanding.
