The Muhlenberg County Humane Society has only been under new management for less than six months. It is going to take some time to get new policies in place, hire new people and make the changes needed to get it going in the right direction. If anyone has taken the time to go by there, you can plainly see that they are in the process of building a new, larger building that will house more dogs and cats. I've been told that the new County Judge Executive has increased their yearly budget. Maybe now they can increase salaries and hire more employees. They no longer charge to pick up animals or to drop off animals. They only ask for donations from the public if they can afford it. They are moving in the right direction. You just have to give it time. Anyone who wants to see an improvement in the shelter, instead of just writing about it, donate something to make it easier on them because they are really trying. They can only work with what few resources they have. The community access channel on cable says they need dog and puppy food, cat litter, garbage bags, bleach or just donate money. Don't complain about the problem, be part of the solution.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but at least get your facts straight. The Humane Society does not get prisoners from GRCC. The inmates that help at the shelter are from the Muhlenberg County Jail.

I am glad someone is coming forward and getting some little known facts out to the public, our community has put it's trust into the "Humane Society" and may I remind everyone to take note the definition of "humane". I have been to this place and I gagged at what I saw. The worst part is, I trusted this "Humane Society" to spay and neuter 3 of my pups which were perfectly fine before taken to this place. Less than 2 weeks later I lost my female pup to parvo and the 2 males had been exposed. I could not afford very much because I am low income and I thought I was doing the right thing, well my female died and broke my heart and I almost lost my 2 males, it ended up costing a small fortune to try and save the 2 I had left. This place never told me anything about being contaminated and I called crying asking them what the hell is going on, I bring 3 healthy pups in and one dies and I almost lose the others~!!!!!!!! I was told firmly that the Humane Society was cleaned etc., well I learned later it is a fact that the Humane Society was and is tainted with parvo, so I would advise you to save the money up and take your puppy to a vet so it has a chance to live rather than die, I have suffered with nightmares for some time thinking if I had just had the money to get all 3 done at the vet and not gone thru the Humane Society, my sweet little "G" would still be with me. The place needs to be cleaned up and these animals need a fair chance to live. Lots of people donate thier time and food or supplies to try and help and it seems to me this is being abused. I wanted to try to help excercize the animals and play, they are lonely too, but you can't even stand the odor, why should these poor defensless animals suppose to endure it, it is more like a prison than a shelter. Also you can only do one review unless you do an update but there is two more on the humane society so check them out for reviews also!!!!!

I recently had my ex boyfriends dog get out of his pin that was at my house. He was supposed to come and get the dog. While the dog was loose he got in a fight with another male dog. Anyone who knows anything about Rottweiler's know once they bite they lock on. Well the owner was bit by his dog and so was my daughter. He claims it was my ex boyfriends dog that bit him.NOT TRUE.Know the humane society says I'm responsible for the doc bill. But they wont let me see the dog. They also lied to me saying hes being adopted to my ex which is not true.I signed a release form saying the dog wasn't mine. They say because he was in my possession against my will I was not responsible.I would like to know which KRS. states that if the animal was at my home against my will that it is my responsibility. They called me a liar and I wont let this rest.

I had a great experience with them, they were great with my animals and they treated them like they were their own dog and cat. One of the workers put ribbons in my peek-a-poo's hair and painted her toenails. I have seen the workers go out of their way to help.

This place is so poorly managed its hard to believe. They are currently under new management , but still has little hope . After useing prisoners there to cut cost, the county faced embrassment when they escaped for 3 weeks. Its unbelieveable to me that no one seems to care.

PROS: The animals are fed reqularly.
CONS: To many for this small space.

This place needs to be cleaned and the animals are not well taken care. They need to be humane and take care of the animals maybe the animals will be better adopted if they were more well groomed.

Any time with in the past 10yrs I've ever been inside this shelter, it has always stunk something awful. The animals are not very well taken care of. The staff has no clue what they are doing. I often wonder why the are even allowed to still be opened, but I guess they animals have to go somewhere. The staff does not care about the animals, only that they have a job and are getting paid for it. The dog kennels need to be cleaned out better, the dogs are overcrowded in the kennels & need to be fed better. The cats do not have enough room to play & exercise and are often kept with several others in a cage.
