I am new to the area and checked local vets around town with decent reviews and happened to find this clinic through an online search. When I first called to make an appointment the lady who answered the phone was a %$#CH! I still managed to take my pet there anyway, because I figured maybe she was just having a "bad" day? Okay..so when I took my pet in the day of his appnt; the lady at the front desk was still a %$#CH....My husband and I were ignored when we walked in and finally after 5 min-- my husband went up to the counter to tell them we needed to fill out paperwork (new patient). We sat and waited for about 15-20 min and the lady at the front desk was yelling across the room asking questions about our pet etc etc...Umm hello you can call us up to the front desk! So, anyway they finally called us back and it was a relief. The staff in the back was AMAZING-- they did everything for us so that we didn't have to do any of this ourselves; such as giving a pill etc etc and the Dr. was very kind, took his time and was so much help. We were very happy with them except for the rude blonde women working at the front. Prices were fair too...
Moving on-- (totally forgetting about the rude lady who made us feel not welcomed) I called a few days later to make another appnt for my other pet. Again, same women answered and was even worse this second time around! Asked me several of times in a snotty tone if I was this patient and if I had a dog name Sam or something, and I said NO, that is not me for the last time and she said well okay then I need your addy. I gave it to her and she said "ok we have a few patients with the same name" Ugh.. already I'm annoyed with her. I answered all of her questions about my pet and then she turned around and asked me "What do you want us to do?" in a snotty tone again. Really lady??? I just told you all the symptoms of my pet and then you're going to ask me this? Who hired her? She is SO RUDE and messes up the whole energy of the clinic. She is not kind nor any help, is absolutely RUDE on the phone, RUDE when you check in the day of appnt and RUDE when you are checking out. I'm going to have to think this over whether I should take my other pet to his appnt because I really don't appreciate this women treating me like dirt. If they would just let Debbie Downer go-- I would give this clinic a perfect rating, because overall the staff in the back is wonderful, but thanks to your rude front desk clerk YA'LL GET 4 STARS ****

We have been taking our 2 ,now 8 year old beagles, to Dr. Dana and his staff for the past 4 years. The first week we moved here, one was sick & we appreciated the fact that Dr. Dana Walstead wasn't too quick to "rush' into giving her pills and run all kinds of tests like the vet we just left in Atlanta had done just for the past several months earlier for the same issue. Instead, he used good judgement and seemed to know how to treat her with minimal meds and her problem never returned! After spending several hundred dollars on all those tests & meds in Atlanta that never even worked!

For the past 4 years, because of the extra attention he & Dr Suzanne & staff have given my girls, we have only had to go in on 1 other occassion until we moved 45 miles away to St. Peterburg. We had already interviewed several vets &/or staff in the St. Petersburg area and just didn't get the same feel for any of them as Dr. Dana Walstead & his staff. So, we had pretty much decided we'd take the girls back to him for their annual "check-up" but we had an emergency (the other beagle, this time)and one got very sick about a month before our "check-up". We were torn as to whether to make the drive for a very sick dog 45 miles to Ellenton Aniumal Clinic & I'm so glad we did! After our first visit with this emergency, he spent days on the phone with me asking how my little beagle was doing & explaining the serious and often fatal illness she had. He was very careful with his diagnosis and helped me decipher what was truth and not truth about what I had read on-line. Our little girl is well on her way to being much better and we will have to continue to go for several more visits to make sure she continues her successful recovery. We are so happy that we stayed with Dr. Dana and will tell anyone, he is well worth the drive. Although he is a VERY busy man himself, he will take the time to talk with you and work with you in the explanations and treatment options and discuss the prices of each. And he will never recommend unecessary tests, vaccines and medications-which is something we felt like the vets in our new hometown were doing just by speaking to their staffs & listening to our new neighbors. He is much more discriminating in his diagnosis and knowledgeable than the 4 or 5 vets we have spoken to inthis part of Florida. I do not want to say that they are not good, but in my opinion, Dr. Dana just seemed to have a certain edge that the others do not have! Not to mention, he saved my little beagle's life! We would highly recommend him to anyone in the South Tampa Bay & Sarasota area! Sincerely, The Hendersons

Pros: Best Doctor & Very Caring Staff

.

I think Dr. Dana loves puppies more than anybody (maybe even more than me). He treats my dogs like they are his own. He takes the time to answer my questions and never makes me feel rushed. He loves my babies and even sneaks them a treat before they leave the office. The staff is the same way, caring and thoughtful.

I was so happy to find this congenial vet conveniently located near my new home! I was thoroughly satisfied with my first appt; but took my pup the following week for a recommended dental cleaning. Upon picking up my little guy following the cleaning, I was informed numerous teeth had been pulled - without even a phonecall to alert me during the procedure! I had asked at the first visit the previous week, if my pup would lose any teeth during his cleaning. The vet then briefly re-examined my pup's mouth, pushed on several of his front teeth, and said possibly one or two. I was saddened by the possibility of him losing one or two, so you can only imagine my shock and disbelief upon picking him up to find, they had not only pulled possibly one or two, but ELEVEN! Needless to say, I was devastated, since my little guy is only four. I have another pup, same breed, that had his teeth cleaned in Ohio, that did not lose one tooth at his cleaning at this same age. My husband and I realize that all dogs are different, but come on, 11 teeth without as little as a phonecall to prepare us. Needless to say, we will unfortunately not continue to use this practice. This was a nightmarish experience, that I would have highly considered going elsewhere for a second opinion before allowing them to pull that many teeth, had I been made aware! They may give great care at this practice, but one may want to ask questions before taking their beloved pet there for a dental cleaning, as I was and still am extremely disappointed and quite unhappy that my pup is missing most of his front teeth at this young an age! Don't get me wrong, I do realize that our pup was in dire need of a good dental cleaning, but I feel common courtesy would have been for the practice to give us a call to alert us. This has left me forever wondering whether my pup truly needed this many teeth pulled.

Pros: May very well be an awesome vet! but...

Cons: Practice extracted 11 teeth without a mere phonecall!

Dr. Dana, his partners, and staff have been taking care of me and my pets for years now. I've had one dog die of cancer, I lost a cat to liver failure, and my current "baby" is doing great! Everyone at Ellenton Animal hospital has always been competent and caring. Dr. Dana treated and gave me many years with my pets even after their, eventual, terminal diagnosis' and euthanasia. I am not only a patient, but I am also a professional Pet Sitter that they endorse, which I greatly appreciate! I can be found at www.pawzntails.com ~ Debbie

We have two Shiz-Tzu's whom are just as much our children as our human child is to us, and after being with an animal hospital in Sarasota for a while, we decided to choose a different one because of the rotating vets at the other hospital.

We wanted to build a relationship with our vet just as a person wants to build a relationship with their family physician. So we decided to interview the doctor at the Ellenton Animal Hospital, and right away knew that Dr, Dana would be the kind of doctor that we wanted.

Both the doctor and the staff have treated my family with nothing but the utmost respect and have treated my two kids VERY well. The doctor is a no-nonsence kind of person who believes in trying simple, home remedies when applicable instead of trying to "sucker" you out of more money by tell you that you need some expensive proceedures.

All I can say is "Thank you to the staff of Ellenton Animal Hospital for treating us so well."

This is a local vet and you will not be disappointed. They take excellent care of the animals and the staff is very good. I have had them board my cats for over a week on several occasions and have never had a problem.

My cats were well cared for and happy when I picked them up.

I only barely knew them when one of my cats got very sick and they could not have been more helpful. I eneded up at pet ermergency at 2:00 AM and the vet there called this vet and they were happy to talk to them even at 2:00 AM!
