I have been here a few times. The vet techs are not nice and a bit rude. I don't know why they have kept a few of the girls who have been there so long. They are snobby and rude! This place also costs a arm and a leg! Unless you are close its a real emergancy DO NOT GO HERE!!

Since February of 2010 when my horse almost died of colic, I take all of our animals to Loomis Basin for emergency and routine care. I expect emergencies to occur with an animal and plan ahead by ensuring I have health insurance or I save money aside so I can afford to pay for emergencies if they arise. That is my obligation to my animal family members, otherwise I should find them a better owner. I went into human medicine to help people, but I also expect fair compensation for my hard work. I expect the same of any professional in the animal medical field. I compared prices and found Loomis Basin prices to run in the upper middle range for local vets. I LIKE the environment and medical staff better than anywhere else I've been. I don't think they would have the exemplary medical staff or the beautiful facility if their prices ran on the lower end of the local price range. A facility that charges more equals higher staff wages equals attracting the most knowledgeable doctors and acquiring up-to-date equipment. It's quality that I pay for and expect when I take my beloved animal to see the doctor. When I have had an objection or issue, I address it on the spot; I don't complain about it anonymously later. I have found everyone at this facility to be open to discussion and the result was always fair to both them and myself. Thank you, Loomis Basin Equine for taking such good care of our family these last 14 months.

I live right around the corner from LBVC and wish I could just take the pets here for all of their stuff. The staff has always been helpful and courteous. The doctors are extremely knowledgable and competent. The only complaint I have about this place is the price. Its waaaay overpriced. For this very reason we have had to find a vet in Roseville to treat our little guys. The prices quoted are almost never the prices charged. Being unemployed I had 2 emergencies, one where the dog survived, one where the dog needed putting down. The second one was actually a great experience despite the dog dying, the doctor took pitty on my financial situation and charged me next to nothing along with follow up calls & letters. This unfortunately is not the norm for LBVC and all my other experiences for the past 18 years have been good quality wise but a financial rape otherwise.

The second emergency, I was quoted $250 for treatment and after I picked her up was asked to pay $700 plus bring her back 4 consequtive days later at $50 each day just for bandage changes. come to find out, she didnt actually need to come in, a vet never even saw us. I changed the bandages myself and only made a follow up 2 weeks later to, ensure good healing. Worst of all they could not explain the price difference between the $250 and the $700 because every thing looked the same as the quote.

Overall, if they werent so damned overpriced, Id probably always come here, but for now will only do so for emergencies after hours or things my vet cannot do. LBVC although they care for your pet, IS ALL ABOUT $$$$! They are high quality, no doubt, but not so much that they should charge as much as they do. There are PLENTY of other area vets who will do as good a job or better for less than half the price.

Loomis Basin Equine Veterinarians are very helpful and knowledgeable. They care about the horses and give 100%. Since I live in the Loomis area, I love that there is an ICU for equines nearer than UC Davis. In the past that was the only choice. I had a premature warmblood foal born the spring of 2010 that was kept in their ICU for a week. It was nice to be able to visit him whenever I wanted. They saved his life and he is now a healthy beautiful yearling colt.

PLEASE go somewhere else. I have had problems with this Vet Clinic in the past. My horse coliced and the vet walked into my pasture and before she even looked at the horse declared we needed to rush the horse to their surgery and have a $5,000 operation.

I told the vet that she just needed to put mineral oil in the horse and she would be fine in the morning. The vet persisted and finally I said I would pay nothing unless she did the oil treatment. She relented and charged me $350.00, a real high charge for this service.

The next day the horse was fine.

I have friends, RICH ones, that go there and always get at least a $1,000 or more bill.

I will never return to this clinic again. I brought my dog in with a cough, 2 x-rays later and sedation to look down his throat they sent me home with kennel cough meds! Over $500 to diagnose my pet with kennel cough. They are only interested in racking up the bill and less interested in the patients care. I took my dog to Willow Rock Pet Hospital today and walked out with a bill for $53.06 which included two medications. The anti-cough medicine was $5.56 which Loomis Basin Charged me last month $35.00! Save your self some time and money and go some where else!!

As a long time "animal parent" in the area, I have had many trips to Loomis Basin (small animal clinic) over the years (having personally "contributed" a minimum of $30,000 to this clinic).I have experienced the ongoing shift from the clinic's advertised quote of "Where Your Pet is Our Concern" to "Where Your Money is Our Concern". The clinic's blatant obsession with money instead of sincere animal care is a very scary thought considering the number of animals it sees 24/7. I am sure that there are many vets there that are very skilled, however, our precious loved ones are never taken there to be viewed with $$$ sign hanging around their collars. It is extremely sad that a clinic that has the potential to offer so much to the community (and receive back so much more besides just money) has dropped to such a low level.Especially at a time of economic need for so many pets and people. Unfortunately for Loomis- there are many talented and caring vets in the area that actually care more for their patients (and the pet-parent relationship) than just money.
For speciality needs- I'll drive the extra miles to Davis, and meanwhile research other speciality clinics.
As many have stated this "star" system does not allow for less than 1"star" rating. On behalf of my furry ones, I will note the current rating as a negative 3
Loomis' attempts to rebut every comment is quite revealing-
apparently they are quite concerned about their image-perhaps if they simply replaced care for $ with care for their patients they would not have to rebut every comment- so keep them coming Loomis it only serves to strengthen this comment.

Same experience as some. It's all about the money. Drs were horrible! Money was the whole focus! My dog and I were both treated with disrespect.
I will never return to Loomis and recommend all critters stay away from this facility and the Drs!
And shame on any vet that refers to this place!
I too would give them a ZERO if I could!
And no, I don't want to hear how they would like to discuss this with me now.
Actions speak louder than words and this is a small community!

Competent staff and quality facilty, but unfortunately there is a ridiculously obvious focus on one thing - profit. From the time you walk in, they can barely contain their obsession with securing finances, getting authorization for future charges, and god forbid your dog must stay overnight, the billing is truly creative. A very transparent attempt to feign an altruistic concern for the animal, but a classic money pit. Stay away!

Thank you for your feedback Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at our clinic. We are disappointed to learn that we did not meet your expectations when it comes to the financial aspect of your pet's treatment. We understand your frustration. Unfortunately, this is not uncommon in veterinary medicine, especially for emergency and specialty care; however, we believe our fees are well within the average for this level of care. It is common practice in the veterinary field to have clients sign treatment plans in advance of treatment so that all parties are aware of potential costs to be incurred and how treatment should proceed. We pride ourselves on practicing best medicine and try to offer clients various treatment options to suit the diagnosis as well as a client's financial constraints. We would like our clients know there are options, such as choosing to purchase pet insurance and/or apply for Care Credit (a veterinary payment plan) to help with expenses. We appreciate client comments and would be happy to take the time to reexamine your pet's individual record and billing statement to address any specific client concerns.

.My husband and I got a puppy that was about 15wks old. We were told that she had all her shots. With in 24 hours she was dying from parvo. We took her to Loomis that night. I don??t recall the vets name but he was really nice. He gave us our options and told us that the parvo was too far-gone. We had to put her to sleep. A week later we did get a sympathy card in the mail singed by the vet himself with a note. We did get another pup a month later and took him every month for her shots. The lady that saw us the first 3 times did act like she would rather be somewhere else. I asked if I could have the doctor that saw us with our first pup they said they would have to schedule those appointments due to him being one of the best there (as in bed side and everything) I don??t think its the clinic I think its some of the people that happen to work there. I think they should call on all references. These are not just animals but our kids

This hospital is by far and away the pet place to take your pet!!! Not only are their prices very reasonable for shots, but surgeries as well (trust me, I did my shopping). My dog Toby and I will never try another vet clinic again. Thank you Dr. Hess.

The best, most caring equine doctors you will ever meet. I cannot say enough about the personalized, quality care that my horse and I got beginning with the receptionists at the front desk and continuing all the way through the technicians and doctors. Love this place.

The only reason I give this practice a one-star rating is because there is no way to give them a zero; furthermore, I think some of these rave reviews were written by employees coerced into doing so by their employer!

Every medical practice is a business; however, this clinic is FIRST a business and, only secondarily, a medical practice.

I took my pet to this clinic because my vet referred them for a procedure he could not perform out of his office.

I am disabled, and on a fixed income, but my pet is my only friend in the world--I do not place a price on his head. However, I am also an honest person, and explained that as this was an emergency and on a weekend (how inconsiderate of my little friend), my financial situation was not such that I was carrying the $1500-$3200 estimate on my person and would require making arrangements. I was advised that FIRST, I would have to make a $1000 deposit before he would even be admitted, and, SECOND, would be required to pay the balance on discharge--the next day, which was a Saturday--despite the explanation that the person handling my finances is only available on weekdays.

Only after a secondary funding source guaranteed a deposit was he seen. I spent 30% of my 3 hours there talking about finance, and less than 5% of it discussing the medical condition; the remaining 65% was spent in a waiting room cooling my heels waiting to be seen and agonizing over my pet's condition and whether or not these people gave a damn.

Fortunately, the condition requiring the procedure cleared up overnight obviating a need for that procedure and we left in the same condition in which we arrived--lighter of $350 for his stay ($21 of which was for standard boarding--no medical care or observation), and nothing else to show for it except an X-ray.

My pet still had a problem, though what was initially considered the problem had cleared up on its own; this clinic made several suggestions regarding bringing in specialists, exploratory, blah, blah, blah on the weekend.

I retrieved my pet (snatched him back would be a better description), and would never return to this place again, not even if he were dying. In that event, he would be more comfortable dying in his own bed in a warm loving home, than on a long, cold drive home after being turned away by this clinic because I was unable to slap down cash on the barrel head--on a weekend!

Had an 11 y.o. pug who had recurring cough due to irritation from breathing tube from surgery done in October 08. We dealt with this by medicating sporadically. By March, we moved to this area and of course upon arrival, cough worsened and I had her seen at Loomis Basin on a Sat. afternoon. Dr. Claire Hardy was our vet and she assessed Pipi gently and after I shared with her our situation (new to area, no job for me yet=limited finances) she put forth her opinion and our options nonjudgementally and thoroughly. We ended up doing a few chest xrays and putting her on an antibiotic and a different cough suppressant. This was in the neighborhood of $250 with the xrays costing the most. At the time her surgical site showed the possibility of tumor reemergence and by the end of April it was twice the size as it was when we had it removed in Oct. Due to her age and other factors, we deemed it time to put her down and made the appointment. We requested Dr. Hardy and I took her in. All staff that I came into contact with were sensitive and caring. The process was explained to me in detail and it was conveyed to me that I had as much time as I needed to spend. Dr. Hardy supported our decision and was of great service. After our wonderful dog died, she handled the body with respect, wrapping her in a blanket we brought and placing her in a box they provided so we could bury her. I felt free to grieve and Dr. Hardy was a friend accompanying me. She said that they have all kinds of special requests which they'll accommodate. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this facility to anyone facing these same situations. They're completely worth the drive if you're coming from another area and I know they have extended hours and emergency service. Do yourself and your hairy person a favor and visit soon!
    *#*#*UPDATE*#*#*
5/21/09- I get a letter in the mail from University of Davis Vet School saying that on behalf of this vet, a donation has been made in memory of Pip. Incredible. I was very touched. As to the review above, stating that these are forced staff write-ups--that is untrue of this review and I welcome anyone to contact me directly. Sorry the reviewer had a bad experience. Sometimes, as pet owners we have to pay for their emergency care. This is precisely why we've chosen not to replace our pet with another. They're expensive to care for, especially when unexpected issues arise on weekends as was our case too. Vets are faced with paying for their educations, facilities and staff and I didn't think these rates were above the norm. They're pricey for a reason--they provide excellent care at odd hours in a state-of-the-art facility. 'Nuff said!

After spending over $1300 on two over vets to tell my they have no idea what was wrong with my amstaff. I went to Loomis with my Bully. He had not eaten in 10 days and when he did it all came back up. I took him in and after they got him stable they found out the cause fast. Aftert he surgury to remove large peice of corn on the cob. Bully made a full recovery. Loomis billwas less then $1800. So I'm the end you get great expert service at Loomis. I just got a new puppy for Christmas and we have a appiontment today. If you truelly care about your pet and want the best care, make the drive. It may save their life. It did for me and my family.

We took our lab to Loomis Basin because her chest was enlarged and she was having trouble breathing. Immediately our vet accused us of abusing her! After two surgeries later, it was discovered that she had inhaled a fox tail and her lung was leaking air into her chest cavity. Frankly, we have stuck with this clinic despite the poor bedside manner and unprofessional customer service, but have finally decide to go elsewhere because our vet is consistently rude and condescending. There are other great vets in town- look around!

IF you ever need a Vet at anytime emergency or annual check-ups I suggest Loomis Basin Vet. I got out of there under $300 and a better baby. They truly care about your furry child and will do everything they can to calm you and they make sure that you know exactly what is going on. I WILL be taking both Shadow and Gizmo there from now on without hesitation. My dog Gizmo started throwing up Bile and went extremely weak after I took him to the VCA clinics where they didn't do anything with him and charged me up the wazoo. I was in shambles and tried calling SPCA and humane society and they said unless I surrender him they couldn't help. I called Loomis after that and they told me to bring him in right away. I was there until the early morning while they did everything they needed to and now he is back to walking around and being the tail wagger he is.They definitely have a new client in me and I am telling everyone else about them too

Took my dog to Loomis Basins ER and they basically monitored him to death. They provided no supportive care and no treatment all they did was watch him all night. When he started going downhill at 8:00am no one called me. At 11:08am I received a call saying he was non-responsive, as my husband and I were rushing to the clinic I got another call at 11:12 saying they were performing CPR. Bottom line. They knew for three hours that our baby was dying and never once called us so that we could spend time with him in his final hours. These people are insensitive and incompetent. Their reason....they had to many more critical cases. What was our dog a piece of garbage? I would never take my animal to these people.

Kind and conscientious staff, you can tell they really CARE about animals of all kinds! Each vet was kind and considerate no matter how many times I called or asked questions. They were very nice to my old pet and when it came time to put her to sleep they were extremely accomodating and compassionate. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. Even the staff people were friendly and helpful no matter how busy they were. They remembered my name and my pet's name each time I visited. What a real blessing to have these vets in our community; so please do not be fooled by other so-called "vet hospitals" that are just in it for the money. Loomis-Basin is the best! Their pet fees were reasonable and well explained; there were no "surprises"!! I never waited for any length of time when taking my pet in, visiting my dog or waiting for a call back from staff or the vet. GREAT PLACE!

Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic is the one & only place I would trust to take care of my animals. I've had experience with their large animal clinic (for my horse) & their small animal clinic (for my cats & dogs) & everyone was unbelievable! I'm always recommending them to everyone I know who has animals. My parents were taking their dog to a DIFFERENT vet who misdiagnosed her illness. They brought her to Loomis Basin where they immediately took xrays, properly diagnosed her condition & treated her. Needless to say, my parents' animals will be Loomis Basin clients now & forever.

Very simply they saved my dogs life.
My dog was having problems so I took him to our normal vet. They could not find anything wrong. When it got REALLY bad I rushed him into Loomis. Loomis diagnosed the problem and was able to do emergency surgery to save his life.

My pets go nowhere else now. I felt bad leaving my normal vet who we had used for years. My wife resisted the move. No offense, but frankly, why would I pay the same amount to go to a place that does not have the expertise that I can get at Loomis?

Loomis Basin is the best. I have been going to this same vet for 15 years and have nothing but good things to say about the vets at this clinic. I have brough 3 cats and 2 dogs to their small animal clinic without a complaint. I feel like my animals are in the best hands possible. Pricing is fair and my pet gets the health care they need. Clean, spacious and nice grounds surrounding. My dog loves their llamas!!

PROS: Great caring vets, clean and fair prices
    CONS: None

The Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic is a great choice to take your animals to. They serve small and large animals including Llamas and offer general practitioners and certified specialists to give you and your animals the best care. A great service that they offer is 24 hours service, including holidays. They have regular discounted vaccination clinics to keep your animals update. The staff is always very professional, friendly and great with the animals. They keep you up to date on your pets status at all times. They are there to answer all of your questions, night or day and you never feel like you are rushed or a bother. The main building is very welcoming and very clean, helping to know your pets are getting the best care around. I would definitely recommend taking your pets to the Loomis Veterinary clinic. They are a great animal clinic.
