Everytime I come to Atlanta I go to the Thumbs Up...was introduced to it by a local a couple of year's ago...and I'm never disappointed. Yes, as others say, you will wait for a table on the weekends if you arrive after 10am, but the food is well worth the wait. The biscuits are fluffy and wholesome-wheat biscuits, mind you, and the other selections on the menu are awesome. The catfish is amazing, as is the steak and egg combo...the french toast is HUGE and satisfying...and there are many offerings for the veggie's in any group. I like to go during the week, when the crowds are smaller, and sit at the counter to chat with the locals. The coffee will keep you wired for the day. Only two complaints...the parking is dodgy...and there are too many good things on the menu to make an easy decision.

Cons: bad parking, long lines on weekends

The location on Marrietta Street. The front house manager has a really bad attitude. You will not be satisfied with the service there. the food is alright but the service is horrible. When you place a phone in call she put you on hold for about 15 mins and when you get there she tell you that she forgot. When you go there and sit down her amount of food serving that you recieves changing from time to time and she tell you to just deal with it. She is very ugly to the public and even rude to her staff.

The food is outstanding the kind that you'll go back for time and time again. I was introduced to the place by a co-worker and I've since taken only my closet friends to savory the goodness of the food. Men are there in all in all shapes, form, and intellect. They all so have a "Thumbs Up" in East Point. Not the same ambiance. I will usual drop by on the Saturdays that I'm in the area (East Point). But, the "Thumbs Up" on Edgewood is the spot. And I love enverything about it that other people are gripping about. The crowd and to wait is just fine with me. It provides a great opportunity for a longer at the (brothers) men.

The food here is awesome. The service is good if they know you. BUT, it is not worth the wait. My husband and I have not been able to eat here in over a year because of the crowd, and we live within walking distance. Go ahead and try getting there at 9am or even 8 am, the people will already be pouring out the door waiting. Another downer....if you decide to tough out the 2 hour wait, you will always have to deal with at least one homeless person harassing you.

This establishment offers the best breakfast in town. I would recommend this Diner to everyone. They are the only place that offers spuds (home fries) that taste like the real thing. This is definitely not a Waffle House or IHOP or Cracker Barrel.

My husband and I love the food in "Thumbs Up". The portions were very generous and the prices very accessible. The problem is that we show up around 10 am and waited until 11:30. Honestly, if you go to the Flying Biscuit (were the food is also great) you know you are going to wait but this took too long. The only reason why we did not leave is thinking how late it was and that it was going to be starting a line someplace else. In the end it was a great meal but next time I'll go at 9 am.

Usually i'ma waffle house, ihop type girl, but i've practically eaten everything on both menus.(AM I GREEDY?) I told my boyfriend about this restaurant after seeing it on citysearch. First off, please make sure u look halfway decent, because this definitely has a suave, hipster, new age feel to it. I wish i would've known because i went in looking halfway crazy. I didn't care though. It's kinda small, maybe you wanna get there as early as possible or maybe as late as possible. We ended up getting a small little table next to the bathroom. The menu is INSANE!!! I swear they have every vegetable you want. My boyfriend ordered "The Heap." Basically its alot of eggs with potatoes and cheese, a meat and vegetable scrambled all together. Its HUGE! When i first walked in this couple across the way had a huge slice of bread on there plate. I didn't know whether or not it was the french toast. So i ordered one slice just to be safe and an omelet with cheese, potatoes and onions. One word FABULOUS!!! THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. I SWEAR MY FRENCH TOAST WAS AT LEAST 7 INCHES LONG. THEY SERVE IT WITH A CUTE LITTLE BOTTLE OF MAPLE SYRUP. THE EGGS WERE AWESOME. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT, THE FOOD WAS GREAT. THE AMBIANCE WAS GREAT. THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS HOT!!! I'LL DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK FOR 2ND'S, 3RD'S AND MORE. ONE THING BRING CASH!!!

The food here was great. While it may not be located in the best area, I still found the industrial nature of that area charming. There were cool shops along the street. This area has character that you jut can't get many other places. But to the food and service... I arrived on a Saturday morning around 10 a.m., and when my party arrived, we were seated after only waiting about 15 minutes. When we left at 11:30, the line was outside the door. Definitely get there early. If you arrive at 11:30 or later, expect to wait for longer than 15 minute. After we were seated, I was in the mood for some fish. So I ordered the fried catfish which was absolutely delicious. It was well seasoned, hot, and crunchy. I also got one of their biscuits and eggs, which was great. Much better than the biscuits you get at the Flying Biscuit. It was a lot of food and not very expensive. I believe my meal cost around $8. I will make it back soon, but I am unfortunately addicted to the crab and shrimp fritatta at another restaurant. I am confused by the parking situation. There may just be street parking...there's a lot in the back, on the side but it's not paved and hard to navigate.

I have been hitting the top 10 list for a while. I keep coming back to Thumbs Up. Had a friend in from out of town and introduced him to Waffles and chicken. We even went a step further and had it Alton Brown style, with hot sauce and syrup. It was amazing. The wife had the usual 'best French Toast in town.' She was not disappointed. Again, megga Thumbs Up!!!!!!!

The wait will be long on weekend mornings. Count on it. But it impresses out of town guests after a night of partying, and you see many people in the same state as you, many of whom are interesting to watch. The food is solidly good, with some exceptional standouts (I love their omelets). It's expensive-for-breakfast, but we usually only go when we have the aforementioned guests with us.

The first time I had the great pleasure of visiting Thumbs Up Diner, we were examining the menu while we waited for a table. I noticed a culinary oddity: Catfish & Eggs - while I was intrigued, it sounded a little less than appealling. Then I saw a waitress carry a plate by. And a spotlight followed it to its table. And a chorus of angels was singing. So, pretty much I've been hooked ever since. I like to substitute the potatoes for the grits.

The omelets are solid, and the pancakes are light and fluffy. But, the french toast is truly a credit to the Diner - crispy on the outside, with a soft, custardy center. It usually comes with strawberries, but if you're lucky enough to be there when they have it on special - I've had it with apples and caramel - truly magnificent.

The only two complaints are: 1) the biscuits - you'd think a place that is not some craptastic, hippy joint like the noxious Flying Biscuit, would have decent biscuits, but for some strange reason, they've elected to go with whole wheat biscuits, and they are dry and inedible. Get the rye toast instead. 2) The wait. If you're not there when they open on the weekend, expect to wait a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes. They have recently added an oudoor waiting area, and that's fine, unless its winter.

But don't let these two minor complaints dissuade you. Get there five minutes before they open and opt for the toast over the biscuits, and then sit back and enjoy the best breakfast in town...

I visited this restaurant for the first time on a Sunday afternoon. The wait was long but there is a coffee shop next door that patrons can sit and wait in...plus the food made it worth the wait. I built my own omelette and it was GREAT...even the toast was delicious. My cousin had the best pancake I've ever tasted in my life; I thought it was cake. Will definitely go again!

My husband and I love Thumbs Up. They are always very accomodating of his wheelchair (even though the space is quite tight on a busy day!). It's not gourmet food, just your regular Southern breakfast items (what do you expect from a place where you can get chicken and waffles?? ha!) I was amused by the guy that said he won't be back because the servers handle money and food and he was appalled by the dirt. Ummm...I served in nice places all through college and the only difference is that in the nice places - they do it in the back where you CAN'T see!! ha!! No pretentiousness here!!! It's great!

Thumbs Up opened a sister location in downtown East Point a couple of months ago. This space is a bit larger than the Edgewood location, so the wait isn't quite as long - though Saturday and Sunday during peak times you can definitely expect to wait. They do have a counter, too - which is usually more available than booths. Food is fabulous and service is always friendly and neighborly - exactly what you'd expect in EP. The chicken and waffles are to die for. Chicken is battered and fried in the restaurant, so it taste so homecooked. They also smoke their own meats - the smoked chicken is delicious in an omelet - and homemake their own jams and preserves. Hurray for this fantastic addition to this up and coming n'hood! Check it out - you won't be disappointed!

OK, the service leaves much to be desired...If you go on a Sunday morning/early afternoon you will wait at least 45 minutes for a table. And, yes...the wait staff is not the speediest or friendliest, but believe me, the food is worth it! They have the best biscuits (they are fluffy wheat) with homemade jam, great omelets, great homefries, and they always have really good specials. Make sure you bring your cash, though - they don't accept checks or credit cards!

I've been a fan of Thumbs Up Diner since it was in Decatur back in the 90's. The place still has the old charm -- some of the same staff, and the same basic vibe.... lots of interesting specials that ring of Southern home cooking and goodness...

Pros: specials, menu, atmosphere

.

Delicious Huge Double Cup of the Best Breakfast Brewed Blend in this Bustling Diner. Expect some wait most mornings to enjoy the various Intown Breakfasts revived from their Decatur spot with Eggs Done Right, Crispy Home Fries, Stone Ground Grits, the Original Wheat Biscuits, fresh jams and Buckwheat Cakes served till 3 pm; also generous eclectic Lunch or Sandwiches.

Pros: The Grits, Southwest Eggs, Italian Sausage

Cons: Real Intown Popular, Popularity Already, Exceeds the Expansion

in a good way, that is. I love the atmosphere and the service is good. You may have to wait for a little bit, but the menu is fantastic and the food will keep you smiling for days.

This is THE BEST breakfast in town. I'm addicted to the Cream Cheese Special. The staff are all super nice and will go out of your way to accommodate you. It's definitely worth the wait.

The breakfast at Thumbs up is consistently good--I have never had a bad meal here. The service, on the other hand...inconsistent at best. I've had servers who were friendly and quick, but then I had one experience where our server forgot to put in our order and we ended up waiting for over 45 minutes for our food (she wasn't apologetic in the least). Another peeve--having to wait for a table on the curb outside the tiny restaurant.
