I must write a review to counter some of the reviews posted. First off, the reviewer who said that it was a good bargain was probably referring to the Vidal Sassoon Academy, not the salon. I can assure you that a cut or color at the salon does not cost $25! At the Academy, students work on your hair under the guidance of an instructor. If you have more time than money (poor students, people on a budget), and you want a good cut, go to the Academy. But you must be patient. Secondly, I must comment on the reviewer who had a bad experience at the salon. I do not question that the events occurred as stated. However, this person has had one visit. I have been going to Vidal Sassoon for over 25 years and I can assure you that I have had the best service and professional care at the Beverly Hills salon. They are not cheap, but compared to some other salons in the area, they are very reasonable. The reason I go there is that my haircut grows out beautifully. Even though my hair is on the short/medium side, I can go 7 weeks and my hair still looks good. You can go to a salon that charges half the amount and your hair might look like it needs work in 3 weeks. The difference is the cut - they really take their time to do a precise job. Anyone can blow out your hair to look good. It's what happens after you wash your hair that counts. Sassoon cuts work with your natural hair texture so you can maintain a style on your own. I have been to many other salons, but I keep coming back here because it's the best.

My normal color stylist of a decade was out of town when I needed to get my hair done for a photo shoot... Through circumstance, I met Juli Massakas who offered to help me out of a bind. She took into consideration my skin tone, my life style, my hair care all into making decisions for my visit with her and the most important part... The hair length. Having hair that is as long as mine, reaching to the bottom of, well, my bottom. I have literally been burnt one too many times by other color stylists who over chemically treat it.

I enjoy Juli doing my hair now because not only does she know what she's doing and will give helpful suggestions, but she actually cares about her client and THEIR HAIR. She's talkative, well-educated and very comfortable to be around while she is working on you. It's not a stale environment there but rather very personable.

I high recommend going here and having Juli do your hair. (Especially for us folk with extra long in length.)

Plus, being right by that Crumbs cupcake bakery, it makes for a great day. Bring Juli one if you get work by her, I've discovered she likes that with her tip.

This is a great place to go if you want something basic done like a simple trim or one process color/tint. I have had my hair trimmed and one color put over before. The cut and color is cheap, runs about $20-$25. The wash and style/blow dry are included in that price. If you get something a little more dramatic done that's when you could be in there for more than 2 hours. Everytime I have went in for the basics, I have only been in there 2 hours tops. I usually do one thing at a time. Color or cut. You can't realy both done at the same time since color is done at certain times and cut at another. But if you have nothing to do and time to kill it's a great bargain.

I always worry about my blonde turning orangy, or too white, but Julie really listened to my concerns and it came out perfect.
She educated me on how to condition my scalp and ends and she even gave me a great deep conditioner on the house. I had a great experience.

I have to say, going to Vidal is pretty hit&miss. I had some great cuts and some horrible cuts; some great dye jobs and some less than mediocre results. the only good thing is they will correct any cut and color free of charge.

Also, the stylists don't really consider face shapes and personalities when cutting hair, so make sure you go with a CLEAR idea of what you want and a PICTURE! My mom's friend went and even though she has a rounder, more mature face, she was given this weird, round, page boy bob that made her look like an imbecile. Another friend went with a picture of a cut showing long layers and LITERALLY got a mullet. She had a few wispy strands in the back and this shaggy mess all over.

Usually I am happy with the cut and pretty content with the color, but this last time I got this blunt barely layered limp mess that had everyone wondering if I'd gone to Super Cuts.

Also, as far as color, that too varies between ok and mediocre, and certainly don't expect miracles. They can do highlights competently and cover roots, but I wouldn't be looking for an extraordinary change. For the rising prices, it's really starting to not be worth it.

Cons: no imagination, standard text book cutting and styling

I went from frumpy to rocker-awesome within two hours! Juli Massakas (my colorist) is full of positive high-energy and is truly brilliant with color. I have followed her from ChopChop to Vidal Sassoon ever since she brought my blonde-burnt hair back to life! Now, it's healthy, shining and gorgeous! Absolutely stunning! After visits with her, I receive sooo many compliments on my color and my healthy hair! Lucy Hwang (my cutter and stylist) brought a rocker-shic and volume back to my hair when she suggested an awesome layered-shag cut. I totally LOVE it! Her suggestion took my hair from mommy-frau to MILF. Way frickin' cool! Both ladies are incredible!

Katja is the best hairdresser in L.A. if you want your hair bobbed, period. I am 46 years old and have probably had this hairstyle since I was 5. (I know, sad). Of all the hairdressers that I have been to in this town, Katja was the only one that got it right, first time. I couldn't really afford an expensive Beverly Hills haircut (still can't), but decided to suck-it-up because she is so worth it. I have never looked back. (Not even in the mirror, don't have to double-check anymore). Everyone at the salon is really fun & nice and I feel like it's my little hair salon at home. If anyone ever complains about the noise in there, it will be because I'm there goofing with Katja! She really is the best. The true embodiment of Vidal Sasson's vision in L.A...

If what you are looking for is a JOB as a hair stylist, this is the place! They're loyal to their staff, at the expense of their customers. If what you are looking for is to have your hair done the way that YOU want by an adept staff...run for Christophe or Frederic Fekaii, EVEN FANTASTIC SAM'S would be more accommodating then this ill-informed, calloused, motley group. I went there looking to have my lightened hair dyed to match my roots. I am pregnant and the Dr. told me I would have to stop highlighting my hair during my pregnancy as highlights can be toxic to a vulnerable fetus. I explained this on the phone before I drove 45 minutes to get there. But to my surprise, the colorist gave me a vacant stare and said she could give me the low lights to match my roots, but she insisted that she would HAVE to also add highlights. She argued that there should not be any risk to my baby and looked at me as if I were speaking tongue when I declined. Not only was she clueless, she tried to engage me in a bizarre power struggle. I left at once, sensing a costly, timely debacle around the corner. On my way out, I asked to speak to the manager hoping for some solace. (The regular manager, Ettiene was not there) His reaction (without talking with the colorist) was that she was clearly trying to "save the integrity of (my ) hair". When I told him that highlights are far more damaging to the hair then low-lights, not to mention damaging to the "integrity" of a small FETUS he gave me a vapid glare. I told him after a 45 minute drive I was disasapointed. He quipped that it was not ALL that long and nearly laughed in my face. His reaction to my condition as a pregnant woman was formidable, his reaction to me as a client was irresponsible and juvenile. DON T GO HERE!

I drove 45 minutes to get there to get low lights weaved in to match my roots below. I specifically said on the phone and to the colorist that I did not want to highlight my hair anymore, my hair had been damaged enough from highlights and my mission was to allow my natural hair to grow out, I just needed a colorist to match the color of my roots and bring it down into the remainder of my hair. The colorist told me that she could put some low-lights but would HAVE to also add highlights as well. Well, # 1 she did not HAVE to, she WANTED to, its my choice what color scheme to go by, and # 2, I told her already that I was pregnant and my Dr. told me I could NOT use and lightening products. When I explained this to Mimi, the colorist, she looked at me with a vacant stare and then tried to argue that it should nt be a problem to highlight my hair since I was only ten days past my first trimester. I should not have to first off all, get bad medical advice from a hair colorist, and number two, if I only want low lights, and don t want highlights, then its my prerogative, after all, it is my hair! Why the power struggle? In any event, I chose to leave as I sensed an expensive calamity around the corner. When I did, I asked to speak to the manager. (I thought that the manager was Etienne, but I ended up speaking with someone who claimed to be the manager, but was not Etienne. Mark or Marcus all but laughed in my face condescending to me that my drive there was "not THAT long" and that the reason Mimi did not put low lights on was because she "clearly" according to him, "did not want to ruin (my) hair". (He had never spoken to her by the way, this was based on his speculation) I told him that highlights are far more damaging then low lights, and Mimi never said she would not put low lights on, she just insisted that she also put highlights on. At this, the so-called manager said that "that's just the way it is, Mimi is the stylist,"
So, if you are looking for a job at a hair salon, I d say Vidal Sassoon is a great place to work, but a terrible choice if what you are looking for is to get your hair done the way you want amongst professionals who are adept and have manners. Mimi was clueless, and the "manager" was quite frankly, a pompous, irresponsible, ill informed twit. DON'T GO HERE!

I am a model, and this is the only salon I have ever returned to after the first visit.

Katja does my cut. She's great because she listenes to what you want, and is open and honest about what would work, and what wouldn't work on you. I come in with ideas, pictures, and 'feelings' I want to have with my hair and she interprets them to work on me. She is also very personable, and in demand. Six of my friends also go to her, (male and female), and everyone's cuts are great.

Mimi does my color......and goodness, she is probably the best colorist in Los Angeles. She is honest about what is good for your hair, and does whatever is possible to keep your hair healthy and great-looking. I definately suggest her to go dark as well as light (I have done both), and their 'gloss treatment', is fabulous for darkened locks.

After having a terrible experience at another salon (A La Mode Hair Studio in Glendale--who delete any negative reviews on their Citysearch website by the way) I went to Armand at Vidal Sassoon. He was very friendly, very open to hearing what I wanted, and an incredibly skilled hair stylist. I now have one of the best cuts of my life, and I've gotten numerous compliments on it the past two days. I think I've found my new favorite salon...

Ezra did everything i asked for and did a perfect job, in fact ,people have already complimented my on my long hair with layers. it feels so much lighter now i can actually wear it down! She cut my hair fast and made it look great by straightening it with a flat iron.My hair looks great and i am very happy about it. I will definately go back for my next haircut.

I decided to give myself a New Year treat and go to a fancy Beverly Hills salon for a cut and style. I was ready for a new perspective. I paid extra for a senior stylist, Armand. He said he would "take off the bottom layer" of my long layered haircut. He also kept repeating he "would take ten years off me.". He never actually stated what it was he was doing. He never actually said, "Hey, how 'bout if I totally cut off all your long hair, cut your hair as short as if will physically go in the back, leave it flat at the sides, and keep the bangs just long enough so they fall completely in your eyes! And, of course, you won't be able to style it yourself! I couldn't tell what he was doing, but could only feel cold air on my neck. I ended up with a short dated haircut. I wish he would have told me ahead of time what his plan was. It never occurred to me that a hairstylist would give a first time client such a radical haircut without at least checking with them if that was at least what they wanted. It has been over a year and a half. It is still growing out. It was a miserable experience. I will never go back. I found the attitude and demeanor of the stylist smug and arrogant. Not only did he not "take ten years off me", I think he added a few years. It was by far, the worst hair cutting/styling experience of my life. I left the salon in shock and in tears. Buyer beware.......

Etienne Taenaka is the manager at Vidal Sassoon and he is absolutely the best. He has many years of experience, I take my whole family in to see him. His cuts are absolutely stunning. He's great with all hair types, I have long thin hair and my daughters have long thick hair, and he cuts either beautifully. I highly recommend Etienne!!!!

This is my second time to Vidal Sassoon's BH location. Am highly particular when it comes to finding an expert stylist -- have tried many of the best in NYC, SF, and Paris. Rarely satisfied.

Katja, the creative director, gave me two unbelievable cuts -- just what I wanted yet couldn't quite express! Unsatisfied with my color from Licari and requesting a recommendation from someone at VS, she walked me upstairs to meet Mimi. Mimi instantly gave me her ideas, which I loved.... I scheduled a time, and Mimi did exactly the colors I wanted....

The whole ambiance there is terrific -- very friendly, lots of assistants eager to make you comfortable.... and Katja is a kick!! Very humorous -- from Germany, laid-back and fun.
