When I first heard Gladstones had been redone, I was taken back. But this place has gotten much better. The CRAB ALFREDO FETTUCCINI is some of the better Italian seafood I have had lately. Most of the menu is new, but favorites like the Clambake are still on there. Some may be alienated by this, but I feel it breathes new life into the place.

Not sure about the other reviews, but I can say this:

Best clam chowder of my life. Creamy and delicious. I am from New England and was raised on clam chowder, and I have no memory of clam chowder ever tasting this good. It was as if I went to heaven.

Tuna with Goat Cheese - ok, the waiter told me to take a photo of myself, so I would always remember what I looked like before I ate their tuna because it was life-changing. Of course I am a tuna man and also a goat cheese man, so I had to give it a try. MY LIFE HAS CHANGED! I have never had a better piece of tuna and the goat cheese sauce was incredible. I had no idea these flavors went so well together. I cannot imagine a better tuna experience period.

Bottom line, the food was great, the service could not have been better, the views could not have been better (you are right on the beach - I could take my salt shaker and throw it into the ocean water, we were so close...) -- big crowds but got seated right away. Not a bad seat in the house.

It's funny too because I wrote this place off as a tourist trap, but with SBE running the show, this place is among my favorite restaurants not just in the LA area but of all time and places. One for the record books. You cannot miss and don't think twice about it -- this is a no-brainer in all regards.

First off, my girlfriend and I live in Malibu and have been to numerous local restaurants and never had anything bad to say about any of them and certainly nothing to write a review on the internet about.. until now.

We pulled into Gladstone's and had to pay $5 to self park in their parking lot. Then upon entering the restaurant we were "greeted" by a less than enthusiastic hostess who reluctantly walked us to our table. They have a great view if you sit at the window, otherwise you're S.O.L.

After sitting for a couple minutes the server came to our table and gave us his spiel for what seemed like 15 minutes. My girlfriend ordered a $12 glass of wine and I ordered a high end tequila on the rocks with a side of lime. Both of which were delivered to our table several minutes later in cheap PLASTIC glasses and with no lime in my tequila.

We ordered what our server recommended and after looking at the prices we had high expectations. Our appetizer came on a plate with newspaper lining. My seared Ahi came in a bowl. That's right a BOWL.

My girlfriend's dish was the "Catch of the Day" and the fish was overwhelmingly fishy and slightly over cooked. We ate a few bites but then decided to ask for the check and take off. The bill was $120 for flat bread, 2 fish dishes, and 2 cocktails in plastic glasses. OUTRAGEOUS! Never will we ever be seen at Gladstone's again.

Both my girlfriend and I have worked in restaurants for numerous years and have never complained about dining in one, but we were so disappointed in the atmosphere, food quality, service, and over pricing that we had to vent. Do yourself a favor and stay away, go to taco bell which is across the street. You can thank us later.

I have never stiffed a waitress in my life, but this was a first. After being ignored for at least 20 minutes, I ordered a salad. I had originally ordered lobster, but after a tantalizing description, the waitress (and her waiter in training) informed me that they had no lobster. OK, I awaited my salad and after at least 1/2 hour was presented with a "tower." The seafood was stale and stinky and I should have insisted they take it back. It turned out to be $140. but by the time the check arrived I was thankful just to be able to leave. YIKES... I dine out 5/7 days a week and this was the worst of the decade. Oh, but they comped the Clam Chowder since the manager was so sorry they didn't have the lobster I ordered. OMG.... I used to go there all the time. NEVER again, nor will any of the folks I know,,, Whew. Never done a review like this before, but the worst is the worst.

This is a fun place to eat. The food is great. I usually order a seafood dish and the restaurant is right near the ocean with outdoor patios facing the ocean. Food is pricey, so I only eat here for special occasions like Easter or Mother's Day etc.

Always good! We're never disappointed when we go here. The food & service is excellent & the atmosphere is more than satisfying. Sometimes the wait is lengthy but that goes with the territory!

A great restuarant right on the beach. Excellent seafood and desserts. Very nice for a date. Seating indoors or out. Every time I have gone, I always see a celebrity. Slightly pricey but your talking lobster. I highly recommend it.

This is our annual Mothers Day brunch. But you MUST make reservations. Very pricey but the best place in town for shrimp, lobster, crab legs. And, when you're done, the busboys make the best takeout bags ever!

If you want to impress your visitors or friends, this is the place to take them. Right on the water and the food and service is excellent. Gladstones can be romantic, fun and entertaining.

I love going to Gladstone's. Not only is it a California Landmark, but I love to see the variety of people who go there. It's fun to "people watch". I mainly go there for their bloody mary's and clam chowder. It's my get away when I need a little pick me up.. ..

PROS: Get views, Big Bar to hang out
CONS: You should bring cash for valet, they don't take credit cards

The seafood is out of this world fresh, whether it be the Hawaiian Tuna, Chilean Sea Bass, or the Monterrey Oysters, all seafood lovers would find this place remarkable. The icing on the cake is the ocean view because the reastaurant is basically on the ocean (A few steps and you're in water). Gorgeous.

On a Tuesday around 1:00 p.m., I went with my husband to Gladstone's in Malibu to celebrate my birthday.

Gladstone's has a large outside deck where one can sit and dine, and on this sunny day, we wanted to sit outside. Several tables were open on the deck, but when we asked, the hostess said it would be quicker if she could seat us indoors. We believed her and went inside.

Inside, they seated us by a window with a deck view, despite having two open tables with an ocean view. Our window looked out on a part of the deck that was cordoned off with yellow tape, and it was not an attractive view, so we moved to a table with an ocean view. However, soon a young waiter came with a more affluent looking couple, and asked if this was our table.

When I said it was my birthday and I wished to sit at a table with an ocean view, the waiter said we had to go back to the hostess and have her assign us a window seat. There were no apologies for our inconvenience, neither was there a "happy birthday." Plus we had to endure the embarrassment of having to leave our new table.

When I asked the host staff for a window seat, they said we would have to wait 15 minutes. I had nicely told them that it was my birthday and once again, I got no reaction. Either they did not know how to respond, or they did not care that this was a special day for me. When I asked about the open tables on the deck, the hostess said, "those tables are harder to get."

As we waited, we noticed that the host staff gave preference to other couples that looked affluent. One couple got a table on the deck after negotiating hard with the hostess. After waiting more than 15 min., we left. The valet was the friendliest person there!

If this incident had happened on any other day of the year, I would have viewed it as an inconvenience. But because this happened on my birthday, and the staff at Gladstone's did nothing to make me feel welcome, it was extremely disappointing.

PROS: Nice Ocean View
CONS: Poor service, gives preferential treatment to affluent looking customers

I really enjoy dining here the ocean view is simply beautiful and the atmosphere is fantastic. The wait can be long during the holidays or weekends but they offer reservations so if youre a planner like me this wont be an issue. The food is fantastic and the prices are much more expensive than others in the area. It can get a little noisy so I wouldnt call this a romantic place and I would leave the kiddos at home but if you don't have sitter the menu is kid friendly. Definitely a great place for celebrating and with a groupor birthday party. Almost forgot the desserts are delicious and the drinks are awesome.
