After being stranded by the crazed owner of Surf City Shuttle, we were advised by one of his own drivers to call Early Bird Shuttle next time.
Happily we did. Unlike Surf City, Early Bird uses highly professional, spiffy looking, uniformed drivers. We were met at the gate (not at the curb as Surf City would have had it), but at the gate by an attractive young woman who had a big sign with our name on it. She was driving a surgically clean new Mercedes Benz station wagon, and she drove us to our door in Aptos in a professional manner. This review it intended to steer possible users toward Early Bird Shuttle, and away from the rude and crude people at Surf City. Before abandoning us the owner of surf city called me an a..hole, and a loser and canceled our service without warning, leaving us stranded late at night.
Please call Early Bird Shuttle and save yourself a miserable experience.

Pros: highly professional driver
Cons: don't know any
We have used early Bird Airport Shuttle several times when we have been traveling out of the country and need rides to the San Francisco Airport. They even had fresh water for us. Very, very nice.

Pros: always on time

My husband and I just used this service to get from our son's home to the San Jose airport. I call the day ahead and a very professional and complete woman took my request. The following day a fuel efficient Toyota Prius arrived to pick us up. The driver was very professional and very nice. He was on time, the car was immaculate. The drive was safe and pleasant.
I would highly recommend this service to anyone who needs transportation to and from the San Jose or San Francisco airports. These folks are great and a real service to Santa Cruz.

I just finished writing a negative review about another Santa Cruz shuttle company and then realized that Early Bird had no reviews posted. So here's my experience:
We have been using Early Bird since 2000. I only go to the airport about once every few months, but my wife travels every week. Usually I drive her to and from the airport, but there are many ocassions when I cannot, so we call Early Bird. The process is as straightforward as can be. I call them on the phone a few days ahead, I make a reservation, they show up, usually early, but almost always on time, and we go to or from the airport with no fuss, no anxiety. What more could you ask for? Specifically, I expect the car to show up at my house about ten minutes early, and Early Bird gets this. If they, occasionally, don't do this, they know they can expect a phone call at the appointed time and will have to explain to their driver what we expect. Most of our trips are to San Jose Airport (about 45 minutes), but we occasionally fly out of SFO (90+ minutes), and that's a long shuttle ride, with plenty of opportunity for screw-ups, so being early is important. Also, they have a variety of vehicles; one time I need to take seven people to San Rafael. one way, with tons of luggage. No problem, they showed up with a 13-passenger van with the back seat removed. It wasn't cheap ($30 a head), but I couldn't possibly think of an alternative.

Pros: Efficient, reliable, courteous
Cons: none; if they're booked, they'll give you a recommendation you can trust
