We stayed there for 4 days. It was in august, and not many tourists around. The transpotation was great, they have a shuttle to the metro every morning. Staffs are friendly. It was worth the money we paid, and no complain.
PROS: good price, good service
CONS:
Planning a recent visit to D.C., we were astounded by the number of hotel listings in and near the city. Hours of digging online revealed many hotels in our price range, but most of them were located too far outside the city for easy access to the Metro. Finally, we stumbled across a listing for Travelodge Gateway - located just a couple of miles from the nearest Metro station with a free shuttle there and back, and for only $99 per night. Sold!
Finding the hotel was easy enough, and in a matter of minutes we had a key to our ground-floor room, with convenient parking just outside the door. Being that, with a toddler, we packed about three times the amount of stuff as a normal family for one weekend, this was a very pleasant surprise.
The room was neat and clean, but had no frills. Our room had two queen beds, a television, dresser, nightstand, table and two chairs. A sink and large countertop was adjoined to the main room, just outside a small bathroom. We loved this setup as it allowed one of us to both watch the baby and get ready non-steamy comfort while the other showered. Plenty of floor space in the room was perfect for a newly-mobile toddler with a constant need to walk.
The hotel offers breakfast each morning in the hotel lobby - even more than the standard continental fare (muffins, fruit, etc.), there were warm entrees such as eggs, biscuits, gravy and corned beef hash as well. Seating in the lobby is limited to only six or eight tables, so we took our food back to our room, or to a picnic table just outside the lobby in a small courtyard. A small Chinese restaurant - which we sadly did not get to visit - is attached to the hotel, and a gas station is conveniently located just next door.
A shuttle to Union Station runs from the hotel every half hour from 7 a.m. till 9 p.m. The drivers were very friendly and exceptionally helpful in loading and unloading our unwieldy stroller into the back of the van.
While not a lavish establishment, the Travelodge
PROS: Great location; low price; clean rooms; friendly staff; shuttle to Metro.
CONS: No frills accommodations.
