My fiance and I attended Enoteca Piattini on a Friday night. We both enjoy wines and wine bars in general, but did not enjoy Enoteca Piattini. While they do offer a very large and interesting wine list, the quality of food and service do not do it justice.

Our waiter, while good intentioned, was inexperienced and did not provide adequate service, often forgetting about us for very long stretches of time. Our wine glasses went empty for most of the dinner. I didn't bother asking him about the wines, as it was clear that he did not know anything about them. I got the impression that Enoteca Piattini is staffed primarily with part time DePaul students, which is fine for a more simple and straightforward restaurant, but not for a place that is trying to offer an upscale experience (dinner for two without dessert was over $100).

The food was mediocre at best and improperly prepared at worst. Our spinach and cesar salads were fine, but uninspired. My fiance?s veal was over salted and accompanied by a boring side of withered steamed broccoli. My Barolo braised short rib was completely under cooked. The fats and collagens that are intended to melt and moisten the meat during several hours of cooking were grizzled and hard, making for a tough and nearly inedible dish. The large steak knife that was given to me to saw through the meat was an indication that something was wrong. Braised meat should not require a saw-toothed steak knife--it should fall right off the bone. The Barolo based sauce was, however, quite tasty. It's a shame the meat wasn't properly prepared.

Overall, a below par establishment that, like so many other restaurants in Lincoln Park and Old Town, does not live up to the standards set by other parts of the city (West Loop, Lincoln Square, Wicker Park/Bucktown).

Pros: Ambience, wine list

Cons: Food, service, price

The waitors are hot. they are super nice here, gave us free shots! The food is awesome, just like my roommate's Italian grandmother makes.

Wine list is pretty large and fairly impressive. I must admit that I have not eaten food here, so can't say how it tastes, but it seems to be reasonably priced. My only negative is that being an enoteca they don't have cheese plates. On being asked, they said no, but then the waiter showed up, moment later, with a haphazardly put together chesse plate. It had 2 cheeses and olives. The two cheeses were average, but what I found weird was the fact that he didn't even ask us before getting the cheese plate. I would have liked to know what was in the cheese plate, if the cheeses went with our wine, etc. Also, just two kind of cheeses in a plate, that is not going to cut it, if you are going to taste a variety of wines. Sort of disappointing. But, place is worth trying and I'll go there again, just won't order cheese, till they have a menu for their cheese offerings. So, I know what I'm ordering.

This place is very cute. I went on a first date here and we were the only people in the restaurant. There was one other couple! If thats not a clue on a Wednesday night. Anyway, we were so involved in our convo that we didn't look at the menu but our waiter kept coming back and asking us if we were ready. We definitely felt rushed. Anyway, while we were eating, the employees started cleaning the restaurant and putting the chairs on the table and starting watching us. We felt like we were the ones making them stay late. Definitely ruined our dining experience. The waiter told us it was b/c the chef had just had a baby and that he wanted to leave. Well, to tell you the truth I don't care if the chef did or did not. We didn't want to be rushed. Anyway, we wanted dessert, but felt like they were totally watching us, so we decided to leave. With so many Italian places in the city I would consider another one because of the not so great customer service.

I chose this restaurant based on the reviews and was not disappointed. I went there with couple of friends and had a good time. The restaurant was surprisingly empty on Friday night which was nice as we didnt have people sitting right next to us. Our waiter was polite but seemed new and a bit inexperienced. He tried really hard and we were nice:).
We ordered meats- I had chicken that was really tasty and tender in tangy sauce. My friend had salmon special of the day with spinach and it was really good as well. My other friend had lamb chops with side of risotto which was really good yet the lamb seemed a bit gummy for my taste, but Im not a red meat person so may be a little biased.
We shared amaretto cheesecake and chocolate cake for desert and had cappuccinos. The desert was good but the portion should be a bit bigger for $7. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and the food was one of the better Italian we tried. With glass of wine, tax and tip (18%) we paid $39 per person.

We apparently happened upon a new server (or so it seemed). She didn't know what N/A beer was, white soda, gave us the wrong dessert, never checked in on us, and when I received my "expresso" martini (her pronunciation, not mine) and really did not like it, she said, "Oh, you didn't like your martini? I'm sorry." She then placed our bill on the table and walked away. Too bad State across the street didn't yet have their alcohol license or we would have gone there. The food and atmosphere were nice, but the server REALLY needed more experience. The restaurant was not busy and her disappearance was really irritating.

Cons: service

The atmosphere of this neighborhood restaurant is intimate and inviting. We made a quite difficult request for a large group and they were exceedingly cooperative. The food was diverse and well prepared. Portions are "right sized"----perfect for sharing. The wine list is eclectic and fairly priced. This restaurant deserves repeat patronage.

Comfortably romantic candle-light dining in an intimate atmosphere catered toward the twenty and thirty-something crowd. More antipasta than tapas. From the limited menu offerings, we recommend the wide pasta and mushrooms in sherry sauce, as well as the artichoke/chicken/mushroom appetizer. Friendly and efficient service. Difficult off-street parking. Arrive before nine to avoid crowds.

Piattini is a great new addition to chicago and esp. lincoln park. this tapas style wine bar has more than enough to eat and drink for anybody. the "small plates" are actually not that small and are all soo good. there is a big wine list by the bottle or glass. everything is ridiculously inexpensive and was well worth coming back many times. the atmoshpere is very comforting yet classy. i suggest you all give it a try.

Pros: wine, food, inexpensive

Superior value. Very good to excellent food in tapas+ size portions. Cod special was outstanding. Penne arribiata was very good - fried calamari the same although the cocktail sauce needs a kick (we added Tabasco). Wine list has good selections at or under $30. No reservations - best to go during the week.

I've been here 3 times, and every time it's been excellent. Good service, good wine selection, and great food, at a VERY reasonable price. Great new addition to Lincoln Park.

If you are looking for a romantic evening out or just in the mood for great Italian cusine look no further. Piattini excels in great customer service and a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy a night out. Located in the heart of Lincoln Park this restaurant is very accessible from the "Brown" Line to Valet Parking. The menu is very reasonably priced. I believe it can be seating can be reserved for large groups or parties. I hope you enjoy your dining experience as much as my fiance and myself did. Kudos to the owners!
