This is one of those dealerships where they don't even hide the fact that they're going to try to take you for everything they can. They will lie, hide information from you, and pressure you into a purchase.

The good news, in hindsight, is I avoided making a purchase there. That would have been a terrible mistake. But I suffered through a clingy, oily salesman and an unpleasant "owner" who tried to give me the runaround on a new car. Sadly, it turned me off from buying a Toyota at all, and I was very interested in a loaded Camry.

If Toyota tolerates the shenanigans of dealers like this, I just can't justify giving them my business. Beware! Try another dealership (though as I mentioned, I won't be buying a Toyota at all thanks to the horrible experience I had here.

I recently had one of the worst experiences ever with dealership service. Capitol Toyota of San Jose must be going through tough times, because they gouged me on a repair that I will never forget, and hopefully neither will you.
I have a Sienna van, which we use for carpool..up to six little kids at a time. Several months back, the automatic door stopped working. Big safety issue --- with automatic doors, when they break, they are too heavy for little kids to open. What did the dealer charge me to fix a cable? $2,000 !
That's the good news.
Last week, the door stopped working again. So, in my insanity I expected Toyota to honor the repair just months ago, and fix it. What did they do? Another $1,000 bill. The dealer wouldn't acknowledge their earlier work. They just said to pound sand. And when I picked it up, it *still* didn't work -- so I had to make another trip! What did they say they replaced? A little computer, a controller. So, after spending $2k several months ago, I got charged the price of a new iMac for a dumb little controller --- all of which only opens and shuts the door.
And of course I appealed to Toyota corporate service. What an even bigger joke. First they passed the buck to the dealer. Then it was passed back to them. Then they said they couldn't help --- why? (you'll love this...)
- They hadn't seen me coming by enough in the last couple years for service.. get that? they have charge me unreasonably now for service because I didn't spend enough in the past. Logic ? Did it matter that I was also doing my Lexus service at the dealer? Nooooo. Not her department.
- The corp rep, Jennifer Lee, said that it was out of warranty...okay, a door that was fixed 3 months ago already out of warranty... ?? Do *any* of Toyota's repairs come with an implied warranty ?
Toyota is gouging and abusing customers, that's clear. Capitol Toyota in particular is still living fat and happy, charging $700 for a computer part that must have a 20x markup.
MY ADVICE:
- NEVER take your car for service at Capitol Toyota.
- DON'T BOTHER escalating to Toyota corporate service. It's a sham. They lend you their ear, and then tell you to pay the piper. They could care less about customer sat, even in these hard times. I even told them I was coming here and many other places to tell my story, and the Toyota rep said: "That's Capitol Toyota's problem". What a great team.
- WE SWITCHED to AUDI in the meantime. The service is WONDERFUL. They have better product than Toyota, are not as arrogant, and are still hungry enough to care about customer satisfaction.
If you are forced to go to the dealer for service, make sure you get them to write out the warranty for their over-priced service before you submit the vehicle. Otherwise, they are happy to take food off your kids' table and fund their own.

You may get a good price on your car, but forget any customer service. Our Camry is experiencing trouble similar to the recent Corolla recalls and they won't do a thing. The service department was rude and demeaning. Basically, we have a 3 year old POS that they will not support!

Twice I have brought my car in for service and they recommended getting the tires replaced. I told them it would have to wait because I could not afford them after paying for the service. Each time within 24 hours I had a flat tire caused by a nail or screw in the tire.

Bought my brand new Toyota Tacoma and it was dusty and dirty. They told me to bring it back and they would detail it. Brought it back to do that and nobody knew where I needed to go for the detail service. Ended up walking around and everybody was finger pointing and completely rude. Had to go to Stevens Creek Toyota to get my car detailed. Horrible experience

I walked around the lot looking for a sales rep or someone to at least acknowledge me but my daughter's legs got tired (she's 3 years old) from walking so we left.

A simple "we'll be with you in a moment" or even a smile would have been nice. I felt completely invisible.

Capitol Toyota's repair shop always seemed to be finding things wrong with my car. When I would take my car to another shop to get an estimate 9 times out of 10 the other shop would say - that maint/repair is not needed.
The one time I had an item that I wanted covered under warranty they argued and argued about it not being covered.
The wait time for even a simple oil change seemed very long.

PROS: shuttle service
CONS: long waits

This is a big dealership with lot of inventory, and a big enough repair shop. The first time we went here is for a warranty repair of a leaking radiator cap. We bought the car at Steven Creek Toyota, but was given the crap when asking them to check it out under factory warranty. The service manage at Capitol Toyota was friendly / helpful, and instead of just given us a new radiator cap, he recommend us to get pressure check and get the whole radiator system check out, for free. Needless to say, the car got repaired, and Capitol Toyota get our business since then.

PROS: Large inventory - Very good service department
CONS:

They have the lowest price quote on our second vehicle. But you need to do some research yourself before going down to the dealership to negotiate. Believe it or not, the negotiation takes more than an hour. But overall their service was quite good and I don't mind recommending them to my friends. Most importantly, do your own price research before going down to the dealership,

Had to buy a car from my girlfriend's cousin and decided to check out between Honda and Toyota, compared both Honda and Toyota and just loved this place, This place is by far the best place for Toyota's. Trust me I have checked about 10 different places and tried everything in the book to get a better deal elsewhere but ended up buying from here.

PROS: Great Inventory, Prices and Staff
CONS: Pressure tactics as are common in all car dealers
