I always wanted to go here for brunch but the crowds kept me away. So when we stopped in for dinner it was a good surprise. I ordered the salmon, and my date got the chicken. Comfort food. The staff was sweet and the wine was tasty. The decor was cute and there was the most random music playing in the background - a mix of worship hyms with easy listening! We enjoyed the randomness, but if you are looking for a super romantic date place you may wanna save it for brunch.

I actually have something I like for each meal -- the breakfasts are really good -- the serving sizes are resonable -- not overly gigantic like some places, but just right. The salads are very good -- everythng seems really fresh. The price is right!

The first time I went to Bread and Porridge, I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, and I received the most perfect over medium eggs I have ever see, smelled or tasted in my life. Perfect color, perfect doneness, perfect texture, everything.

The second time, I ordered pancakes that were just as good.

I still don't like to go there with friends to eat, because in my opinion, the booths are too small and too close together. Somehow, this lowers my enjoyment of their fantastic food.

PROS: The food is terriffic
CONS: crowded, small booths

Bread & Porridge is one of the few brunch joints in Santa Monica. I have been there numerous times and while it does the trick in a pinch I just had an experience there that truly sucked. There is always a long wait on weekends so we called ahead to reserve a table. We got there ten minutes before our reservation and they said it would take 10-15 minutes - fair enough. 37 minutes later we finally got our table. And the food was totally mediocre. Some other issues: Why did they expand into a second room and not add more tables? Instead of having a room filled with people waiting for a table how about just adding some tables and start serving in the new room? Also the owner doesn't seem very likeable.

PROS: Brunch
CONS: You Have To Wait Too Long. Mediocre Food
