I had a hard time choosing a preschool for my 3 year old, I went to all the preschools around Bakersfield, and didn't feel like my 3 year old would be challenged enough. I was also a little weary of the neighborhood surrounding the preschool, but it was overlooked once we met the director. Mrs. Angie is a wonderful person with only the best intentions for everyone, and she is just so great with the kids. All the teachers are great. And the most important thing is the kids love it there. I had intended only to enroll my 3 year old, but they also had a class for my 2 year old. So I was able to enroll them for an affordable price. Now I can't get them to leave at the end of the day! I love that they offer day care after school, so if I have some errands to run I feel comfortable leaving them for a few hours. Please keep in mind that this is a co-op preschool, so parent participation is required. I have met some great parents, who are just as concerned for their kids... As shown with the attention that is needed to keep this school running. This is an awesome school for any creative kids and willing parents.

LOVE, LOVE, this school! All the teachers are wonderful and my husband and I are very happy with our choice for our 2 year old. We can't wait for our 1 year old to start. Wonderful experience for the whole family!

Though a friend recommended BPC, I was very leery of it's location, the old blue car in the play yard and the age of the school itself. The neighborhood may be a bit dicey at night, but since school is only held in the mornings on weekdays, that ended up being a non-issue. The blue car is now my favorite hang out with the kids for going on the best adventures of the imagination I've ever experienced (when school is out, my daughter misses the blue car adventures most). And, yes, the school is old, but well maintained and spacious, steeped in history (the school was founded in 1952), and more inviting than any of the other sterile, cookie-cutter schools we toured. Because it is a parent-participation co-op, my child is surrounded by moms and dads who love, care and guide her, while the teaching staff (Miss Angie and Miss Christina) provide opportunities to learn and socialize through play in the most creative ways. Every day, Miss Angie tells me some thing she noticed about my daughter that day which tells me how involved and attentive she is as a teacher. If ever I have a problem that is affecting my child (either in school or out), Angie makes the time to listen and help me. My daughter is in the pre-kindergarten program (4 days/week, M-Th, 9 to Noon), but they also have a toddler component (2-, 3- or 4-day program--parents' choice) for two- and three-year olds. My daughter was never under Miss Collette, but I've seen her work wonders with the toddlers using a perfect mixture of love and personal responsibility (especially great with difficult children). Participating parents pay about half the tuition that non-participating parents pay (very limited space for NP since the whole philosophy of the school is to grow alongside your child). Two-day program is currently $120; three days $130 and four days $140. Double that for non-participating. Second child gets a 20% discount. The amount of materials used, monthly field trips and community visitors (firemen, medical staff, etc.), and quality teaching staff makes this school a true bargain. I highly recommend them for all ages, 2-6, and would advise parents visiting to look beyond the surface to find the buried gem that is BPC.

The location is very deceiving. Bakersfield Play Center is a wonderful co-op preschool with the most developmentally appropriate curriculum I have seen. The emphasis on play, creativity, socialization, self esteem, self expression, fun, and cultivation of lifelong love of learning is extraordinary. The parents are friendly, involved, supportive of each other, and genuinely committed to the school and the quality of the experience for the children. We also offer really healthy snacks, which is increasingly difficult to find. The playground is unparallel in my opinion as well. But most of all my children LOVE it, and we have tried out several preschools both here and abroad.

This place has child care servies and preschool. The staff is very friendly and great with children. They have a lot of art activities, reading, music, and science. The kids have a great time here, I would recommend it to anyone.
