i read the previous reviews before my trip to como and thought this would be the choice for my family...WHAT A MISTAKE!!!
THE parking was awful we hiked quite a ways to get to the zoo
oh my...i have never been to such an awful place
the aquariam stunk so bad ...there was no air conditioning...
none of the animals but the giraffe was outside of their cages
and the animals in the cages...none of them moved ...were they alive?????
the conditions of the zoo too me were terrible for the animals

the prices for como town....well...thank goodness we had plans to go to valleyfair..
i was highly disgusted and yes i did donate generously as i know this zoo relys on donations....from the looks of things it needs them badly

We recently went to the zoo and found the parking atrocious. They have practically NO handicap parking and one of the lots used to have an entrance by it ,but they don't allow you to enter the zoo itself there anymore. So you need to hike a block to get in if you park there. Not a big deal normally, but they have no spot for a wheelchair or stroller to go up a curb. I witnessed an elderly woman in a wheelchair having to be pulled up and down a curb and then walked a block to enter at the nearest gate which is the rides area of which she had no interest, b/c they closed that gate. I have a child with a disability and I had to do the same thing with a stroller. Lots of people come with strollers. Open that gate and put in ramps for the curbs!!!Another thing.. they have rides that only children will enjoy and they make the chaperone's pay to ride on the rides that require you to chaperone your child due to their height. Don't charge for the chaperone's if you require it!The park is much nicer looking, but lost some practicality in the remodel. It should accommodate the elderly, handicapped, and all the kids in strollers more.

The animals are all sitting in their tiny cages, looking stressed out or just bored to death. The polar bear is the worst! He just swims laps over and over and over again in his tiny pool. He's all alone, and obviously bored to death. The zebra and giraffe areas are bad too - just a bunch of dirt and no shade. In the winter, they keep them inside a little cement building. To me, this is not family fun. I don't like to see any animal suffering, and alot of these larger animals shouldn't be here. They should at least be at a zoo where they can have some room and at least pretend they're in their natural enviornment! Too depressing!

Como Zoo, near Como Lake is a great family zoo. The animals aren't lacking and the food vendors are everywhere. In fact, I would recommend this over the Minnesota Zoo. There are more animals (that you can see) and its free. PLus you don't have to walk that far from place to place. There are also free seal show and a nice little gift shop. This is a great family place to go to.

We love to go to this zoo. They have a voluntary donation at the gate. They have polar bears, tigers, seals, zebras, and giraffes as well as many other animals. Clean and nice park and picnic area here too. The bathrooms are clean and open all year round.

Como zoo is definately a fun zoo to take the family. They have recently remodeled and added a larger childrens ride park. There is also a carousel at one of the entrances & an indoor flower garden. There is plenty of animals to see and at various times of the day they feature a seal show featuring Sparky the seal. The best part about this zoo is that its free! You are welcome to leave a donation at the entrance if you'd like. The rides they feature are mainly geared towards the younger kids, which we really enjoy. This zoo is one of our favorite outdoor fun spots!

Como Zoo has been around forever. My husband enjoys taking our son to places that he loved as a child and Como Zoo is definitely one of them. For the price, you can't beat it. Free Zoos are hard to find these days, but you really should put in a donation so they can continue to upgrade the zoo. I refuse to visit in the winter when the animals are indoors and in such a small area. The cages stink and they have nowhere to exercise.

Since remodeling the zoo it has become a wonderful place to spend our freetime. All they ask for is a donation of a couple dollars. This is excellent when you figure how much it costs to get into the mn zoo.
We enjoy the different animals and feel that the zoo is a great family place to spen time! We feel that the zoo is so educational and the facilities are so modern and excellent. You can't find a better deal financially for family fun!

This is one of the best attractions St. Paul has to offer. It is a very nice zoo with a good variety of animals. They are asking for a donation now, but you will not be denied access if you don't give. If you haven't been to Como Zoo lately--there have been some great changes.

What I like best about Como Zoo (besides that it is free) is that it has all of the traditional animals that a zoo should have. There are lions, and tigers and bears (oh my) as well as giraffes, zebras and elephants! Those are the animals I want to see at a zoo. They even have a couple polar bears! There is a great park right accross the street as well to let the kids run around in! Bring your lunch and plan to spend the whole day, or most of the day there. There is a lot to see!

This is a great place to take your family. It's free, and the animals are great! I personally think it is better then the MN zoo. You can see the animals better at this zoo as well.

PROS: Free
CONS: none

The Como Zoo is a great place to bring kids (if you have them) or go on a date. The size is user-friendly and make for a great afternoon excursion. In comparison to the Minnesota Zoo, it is much more conducisive to a couple hours, rather than a whole-day-long event which leaves you and your pocket exhausted.

PROS: Old-school style, fun
CONS: Not fun to visit in bad weather or cold

This is a wonderful place to go with the kids or just you and a loved one. Looking at all the neat animals is really fun. The fact sheets they have saying where the animals are from, and the facts on them is really nice. A great place to spend the day. Walk through the zoo on your own time, no rushing. Very nice.

A great way to spend the excellent summer/fall afternoons outside, and not spend a lot of money. They have a nice variety of animals, considering the nature of the zoo. Pleasant atmosphere. Not as wide of variety as the Minnesota Zoo, but free can't be beat!

This is a great park to take the kids to and best of all it is free! Other zoos can get quite expensive, but not this one! We love seeing the gorillas here and playing on the local rides at the park and you can even play miniature golf. The gardens have fantastic views and offer a great place to have a little picnic lunch. However, because this is free, do not expect to see as many animals as you will see at the MInnesota Zoo. This is on a much smaller scale but still loads of fun.

PROS: Free, Lots To Do
CONS:

Como Park zoo and conservatory offers a variety of activities for the whole family. Considered to be one of the premier parks in Minnesota, your family will not be disappointed. The park is located in a beautiful area of St. Paul which is easily accessible to anyone. Whether you are in the mood for a game of golf or talking a long walk, you will find plenty of great outdoor activities here. The zoo is a great attraction and one which I recommend. The cost is free and they have a lot of great animals and fun rides for the kids. The zoo is also open in the winter. You can't beat that for a free day of fun.

Como Park is well maintained for a public park, and Como Zoo is one of our favorite family outing spots. Its a smaller zoo than Minnesota Zoo therefore, its not quite as overwhelming to visit when you dont have a whole day allocated to that. Gorillas are always entertaining, lions sometimes have kittens on display, but our favorites are polar bears. Best of all, Como Zoo can be visited for a donation or for free.

Como Park area has it all. First there is the free zoo. The zoo has a wide variety of animals to see. They have animals both indoors and outdoors. Then you can go next door to the conservatory. This costs a small fee but has some of the most beautiful flowers you have ever seen. Down the road is a huge picnic area. And across the street is a playground and a small amusement park. Everything is kept clean and looks nice as well.

We take our 2 boys to the zoo at least 2 times a summer. Since it's free, you can't beat the price. We donate some money though. They have new kiddy rides there too.

We have so much fun going to Como Zoo. It is best to go in the morning as there aren't very many people there and the animals are most active. It is so nice that there isn't a fee to get in. Now with the new rides it gives another alternative of things to do while there. In the winter it is fun to go and spend time in the buildings just watching because noone is there and the kids just love it. The only downside is the smells of the animals aren't contained at all. So the gorilla area smells ABSOLUTELY horrible!

Great free zoo (they ask for a donation). Have all the basics, giraffes, tigers, lions, polar bears, and sea lions. Sparky the seal does a show twice a day. They have new kiddy rides that are pretty reasonable and the historic carosel from the MN state fair is there. The conservatory is also pretty. Great park nearby to eat a picnic lunch.

The Como Park Zoo is a nice little zoo. It's free which is an added bonus. They have a good variety of animals including monkeys, gorillas, sea lions, polar bears and more too. It's the perfect zoo for bringing young children. They have a little amusement park attached for rides. They also have a beautiful old carousel for rides. It's great if you just want to check out a few animals but if you are looking for more exotic kinds of animals you might want to check out the Minnesota Zoo.

I think the Como Park Zoo is a great zoo for children. It is small and you can see animals up close pretty well. I also like that you can go for a short time and not feel like you aren't getting your money's worth since it is a free zoo. They do collect donations and it is nice to donate to keep the zoo going. I highly recommend it!

Como Zoo is the other zoo in MN. It doesn't have a high tech aquarium or dolphin tank, but it does have animals and fun! And, it is cheap! My kids have just as much fun at this zoo, and they love the fact that they can run and play at the park while we eat our picnic lunch after we visit the animals. The parks are so fun! And, there are always people around, my kids never end up playing alone! They meet new friends each time we visit!

PROS: Inexpensive
CONS: Parking

The Como zoo is free and works mostly on donations, it is mainly out doors with several buildings for the animals: the fish house, the guerilla house, etc. In the center of things, there is a pool for the seals. You can feed the seals dixie cups of raw fish for a dollar. The polar bear jumps into the pool, swims in an arc, pushes off the viewing window (you can watch from indoors or outdoors). Como Zoo is located in a really convenient spot with other things to do in the park. You can spend an entire day here - take the kids, and bring strollers.
