The Getty is really working towards making itself a fun family destination. They have a children's discovery room with fun activities for kids of all ages. The gardens are a great place to take a nature walk too. Plus, when it is lunch time, they sell an affordable PB & J that is delicious! A half day visit works best for us.
PROS: Family Fun
CONS: Galleries not really for kids

The Getty Center is a beautiful place for a day trip. Admission is free and it is huge. Make sure you gardens and take in the amazing views. Parking is $5, but you can park on the street down the hill and take the #14 Big Blue Bus for $.50. Plan on allowing most of a day to really enjoy it. There's also an interactive area for kiddos where they can dress up like paintings, etc.

I have been to the Getty about six times now and have liked it each time... even if you are not interested in art, its worth going up there just to get a superb view of LA from the top. The exhibits themselves range from classic paintings to furniture to sculpture. The arrangements are very aesthetic and it could take hours just to get through each level. A nice garden and pation food court complete the picture and makes it an ideal Saturday afternoon destination with the family. And best of all, its FREE!!!!

I went here last weekend with friends and we had a really great time. There are beautiful gardens, great views of the city, and of course the museum. There are a couple of restaurants, but we took a picnic and ate on the lawn. It is FREE to get in the museum, gardens, etc. and only $7 per carload for parking, so it can be a really inexpensive place to take the family or a group of friends. It was definitely worth it!

The Getty Center is one of my favorite places in LA. Its vast collection of arts and antiques are free to the public. A tram up the hills in Brentwood take you to the museum, which includes five buildings filled with artwork and an outdoor garden. The history of the museum and its patron, J. Paul Getty, is as interesting as any exhibit.

If you're looking for fine art of any (and all) kinds, head to the Getty. Their paintings are amazing, and their gardens beautiful beyond belief. The Getty is free making it a great place to go and spend the day. Make sure you give yourself the time, because you can easily spend the whole day here.

If the Getty Center were just a building it would still be worth checking out. It has a spectacular view of West Los Angeles and the landscaping is just as breathtaking. There is no admission fee so parking is the only real cost.
