We just attended birthday party here and it was so much fun. The party host related so well to the little ones. My daughter really like the parachute games. It is for little ones.

Well oriented for the littler folks. Great place for them to play and get alot of exercise in. The kids really enjoy it, but it can be heavy on mom and dad's pocket.

I went to this Gymboree when my oldest was 6 months old and enjoyed it but now 5 years later it has gone downhill. I signed up again with my second about 2 years ago and all the teachers had to use cue cards to know what songs to sing -- even the trainers had cue cards! They were really uptight about the stuff they were selling at the front of the store as well.

When my oldest was a baby we had a birthday party for him there and it was fun. This location fills up really quickly so you need to call way in advance for birthday parties. For my second's party we had to go to the Gymboree in Palo Alto because the San Mateo one was full. A Major drawback to some for the birthday parties is that you are only allowed to bring juice and cake, no full meals.

Another thing to note is that Gymboree is based in Burlingame so all the local shops are corporate owned. I took a class with a friend at a Gymboree in Maryland which was a franchise and it was very different.

PROS: indoor birthday parties until 4 years old
CONS: fills up fast, not professional teachers

I did Gymboree with my older daughter when she was 6m-24m old. I basically joined it as something to do with her and to meet other moms who were staying at home (or part-time at home). I didn't care for the program then, but when I had another daughter I joined for her at this location since the one I had gone to with my oldest had closed (not a big surprise). Anyway, this location's program and people were similar to my original experience. The program is structured with a beginning circle time, theme-of-the-week playtime, toy/music time, bubble time, parachute time, and closing song. The program is a bit too structured and the teachers get uptight when your child does not sit still during circle time or the parents don't "do" the theme of the day. They really don't seem to understand that toddlers are pretty much a rambunctious bunch and while some will be docile and "participate", others have different levels of energy and that requires understanding. I've since joined The Little Gym and they are TERRIFIC. They really understand child development.

PROS: Something to do, get to meet other moms & their kids
CONS: Too structured, somewhat unfriendly environment

Gymboree Play and Music is a wonderful place for your little ones to learn developmental skills as well as get a little exercise from time to time. Its completely sanitary, the teachers are great and so full of energy. Its slightly pricey but worth it. A fun place to play with your children indeed!
