Took my kids there after making an appointment. The girls look so unmotivated to work there. No smiles or friendly greetings from them. One would think that working in a children's salon would ooze a warm and fuzzy atmosphere- not here!

WOW! So I'm new to the California area, recently PCS'd here from overseas after a 3 year tour. My wife and I are both Active duty Military and we have a young son who really needs a haircut. We just happen to be in the area and saw the Kids Kuts sign and thought yeah they cut children??s hair and we have a child who needs a haircut. So we go in (big sign that says walk-ins WELCOME) and we no kidding stand at the front desk for a good 5 -7 minutes before anyone even makes it known that they are aware of us standing there. The first thing the woman says is DO YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. Not hello how are you welcome to my salon, but DO YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. So of course we don't...I 'm holding my son and simply say, I just need someone who can do something with his (pointing to his hair)...She tells me I think we can blend and cut it, (ok I should mention that I am Afro American and my wife is Mexican/Colombian. My son has beautiful hair but it is getting out of control. So I say, I have no idea what that is, can I see a picture...She actually says to me, "YOU CAN LOOK THRU THE BOOK BUT YOU WON'T FIND ANY PICTURES OF HAIR LIKE HIS"...And at that point I am DONE... 20 years of military service, 2 wars, countless sacrifices and the best I can get in 2011 is "Hair like his". My wife was mortified, me I'm not surprised, I blame myself, I knew better than to take him there in the first place. Horrible experience, will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN OR ANY PLACE LIKE IT. And people wonder why there is a need for Afro-American owned businesses. Thanks for making my son feel different at the tender age of 2...MSgt USMC.

I bring my 3 kids to this salon and have for years! I have always been very pleased with the haircuts we've received and even go myself to have my hair highlighted by the owner, Rey (she's fabulous with kids and adults!). I recommend this salon to all my friends and they have all had great experiences too. Heather is also a really good stylist who is super friendly with kids! And I think that the 1st haircut certificates are adorable. They put a lock of hair in a small bag that is attached to the certificate.. it's adorable!

Pros: great hairstylists and kid-friendly environment

My son hates getting his hair cut. A haircut comes with screaming, crying and struggling in the chair. This salon handles it extremely well. There are two stylists in particular who are fabulous with him. Both cut his hair very quickly while, still doing an excellent job. They both talk with him and make a tremendous effort to keep him entertained. I appreciate all of their efforts and continue to go back to this particular salon because of how wonderful they are with him.

I think this place highly depends on the person that cuts your child's hair. I knew people who had gone here and thought it was fun for their child. I think the novelty of the experience kept my son occupied, but our stylist made ZERO effort to occupy or entertain him or talk to him. He was only 2, but got plopped in a regular seat even though I had asked for one of the kiddie seats. No smile or chatter from the stylist. I asked for a trim of his curly hair "I'd like it long and loopy, just evened out a little". As I walked a few steps to a nearby bend to change my other baby's diaper, I turned around to find that she had taken clippers to his hair and he had a buzzed haircut!!! Not wanting to say anything in front of my son, I whispered to her that I told her to keep it long. She said "oh." Plus it was cut 1/2 inch higher over one ear than the other. It looked terrible. I'm so glad it's grown out now. Then she said "Oh, this his first hair cut, right?" and I replied "yes". She reached down to the ground, picked up a wet lock of hair, threw it in a plastic baggie and handed me a certificate saying it was his first cut.
Thank goodness my son enjoyed watching the train overhead and the other children. I'm never going back!

This type of salon is a great idea, but the execution at this location leaves a lot to be desired. I think it has a lot to do with the stylist you get and how kid-friendly that particular stylist is. Needless to say, our stylist had no idea what to do or say to my 2-year old son as she plopped him into an adult chair and gave him a horrible haircut without saying a word to him. The cut was way shorter than I had shown her and completely uneven.
Then she said, "oh, this is his first haircut, right?" and then picked up an icky, wet clump of hair off of the floor and dropped it into a ziplock bag and handed it to me with a "certificate". Nice.

We took our daughter to Kids Kuts for her first haircut, thinking they would be great since they specialize in cutting children's hair. They did a good job on the haircut, but I was not too impressed with the stylist otherwise.

Our daughter did not like the little car chair, so she sat on my lap instead and she kept crying. She started when the stylist put the apron on her without warning her. She is a toddler and the stylist knew this was her first cut, so I was surprised she did that.

Anyway, we gave her a toy to play with form the basket (not pointed out to us, we saw them) and daughter did okay. She was interested in the guy painting a mural on the wall more than anything.

It was okay, but for almost $20 withthe cut and tip, I thought it was pricey for the service. We're going to either try it at home next time or go somewhere else.
