I love chocolate (and make it a point to try many different varieties from different sources), and Scharffen Berger chocolate is by far the best I've ever had. The only downside is the prices, which are jaw-droppingly high.
They have fantastic tours which are led by knowledgeable and competent staff--definitely a must for anybody interested in the history and production of chocolate!
PROS: Great chocolate
CONS: Expensive

Scharffen Berger makes some of the best dark chocolate in the Bay Area and a visit to their Berkeley factory is a great experience. Their tours are definitely worth it and are both interesting and knowledgble. And free samples too! Make sure to book in advance on their website. I heard that they were recently bought out by Hershey's, and that makes me sad.

This is easily the best non-import chocolate around. Although not an old company by any means, Scharffen-Berger has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the premier chocolates in the world. Take a tour of their factory if you want a fun (and cheap!) diversion some afternoon, and if you want to impress people with a slightly less well-known brand of chocolate, this is the kind to get.
