Late 2006, we had to say good-bye to our loved one, Griz, our handsome Akita-Sheppard mix.He was 13 and we had adopted him from Newport Animal Shelter in HTB when he just a pup. He had recently been suffering from a difficult case of arthritis (causing him to stiffen, difficulty in getting up, and getting his hind end going once he was up). He never snapped at anyone or whined in pain, but we knew this was the case. Our decision was a hard one, one that took us a few months to make. Griz was well taken care of by techs and vets alike, here @ AValley, he had been prescribed Ridadyll for over a year (we also helped alleviate some of his pain with MSN). At the time of our dreaded appointment, the staff was warm and the techs were helpful. They gave us some time after to be with him and before leaving we were given his collar and a paw print in clay for a memorial (part of the visit). We haven't encountered a bad visit throughout Grizzly's life and our residence here in A.V. (since 2003). Most of the vets are always very good with our dogs, but one not very personable with the humans. Prices are moderate to high, for some procedures, like spaying and extras after surgery, inoculations, and office visits. But their puppy packs are pretty good. Service is timely and check up calls are great. Their reminders with the pet magazine is a nice touch too, as well as the lil' pix they take of your pet during the visit! Overall, we've had great experiences with them and will cont. to bring our animals there.

Being new to Apple Valley, I went to the closest vet I could find. To my surprise and delight, the staff at Apple Valley Animal Hospital was caring, knowledgeable, and efficient. My husband and I found the facility clean and the employees seemed to truly care about Gus and his surgery. I would definitely recommend this Hospital to anyone in the High Desert.

Thanks you for your comments We would like to hear more from you so that we may learn from your experience and hopefully give you assistance with yout pet.

The doctors appear to be good and knowledgable however the technician staff is very poor. Calls are usually unreturned or returned several days later. I do not feel comfortable taking my animals here for care.

Just moved to Applevalley and adotped a dog, and was insearch for a good vet. They of course sent me to "The Narrows." My dog came out of surgery okay, but the service there was miserable. The lady who checked me was very rude, (must have been a bad day). They never called me to let me know that my dog was ready to go home (like they said in the begininng)until it was closing time, and I called them. So, my husband and I decided it wasn't the place for us.

We rescued a stray a few months back the kids named her Roxy. We have a 5 year old golden that took on Roxy as his own. We took her to Animal Hospital at the Narrows for shots, worms etc. They told us she should be fixed before her first minstrel cycle and that she's a healthy good dog. We made the appointment that was yesterday. My wife brought Roxy in she was really anxious and wanted nothing to do with this place, they gave her a sedative. That day we get a call from the vet, ?We have some bad news? Roxy died. The explanation was something like this. There was an extra tube going between the bladder and the kidney, this in time would make life difficult for her. The doctor fixed this then went on with the rest of the procedure. In recovery she was fine. I was told there is an assistant that oversees the animals until they awake. This is were Roxy died. A perfectly healthy, active, loving part of our family entrusted to these people is gone with the explanation ?1 in 10,000?.
I am a cabinet maker, last night I built the hardest box of my life. Today Roxy?s family will be burying her at my sons & her home in the rose garden.
Just to add insult to injury as a parting gift Animal Hospital At The Narrows graciously handed my wife a 200.00+ bill.
Animal Hospital at the Narrows?? You make that choice for your family member.

Business Response:

Sad story of Roxy I remember Roxy's case quite clearly. Prior to any surgery, we do ask our customers to consider preanesthetic testing as well as IV catheterization. Even if a pet appears "normal" on the outside, we can not forseen certain congenital defects such as Roxy's. Her case was truly tragic since she had a shunt which cased tremendous complications. She will be greatly missed and our hearts go out to you and your family.

They are excellent for dogs and cats. I am really pleased with their works for my dogs and cats but not for my exotic pets. They told me they DO work with pocket pets and reptiles. My hatchling ball python was sick with respiratory infection. They did help her but gave up after a week. They told me it is hopeless and too complicated case for them. I wasted 400 dollars and they didn't cure my ball python.

Will not recommend for exotic pets.

Also the wait is always too long. Sometimes I would wait over an hour to get in even I had appointments!

Dr. Deb & Dr. Jessen took care of my little Minature Pincher when she was attacked. She had to stay two weeks and thought of The Narrows as her second home. They are very caring and compassionate. My dog had an emergency a few month back and when another Emergency Hospital told me it was hopeless, Dr. Deb and staff took over and my Min Pin made a full recovery. If you want a caring environment and safe place choose Animal Hospital At The Narrows. I will tell you this I will not go anywhere else.

The Animal Hospital at the Narrows is large and well-equipped and is something of a High Desert institution. The staff and technicians are friendly and knowledgeable, but sometimes the wait, even with an apppointment can be lengthy. (Walk-ins are taken too.) Prices are on the reasonable to high side and are always clearly discussed before treatment.

I received excellent and friendly service when I took my dog in for vaccinations and a heartworm test. I didn't have to wait long in the waiting room and employees seemed well-trained in customer service. The prices were also very reasonable.

I had a roosters nails clipped but they were cut so short they bled for quite a while. I also had a birds feathers clipped. She did well. I also took a cat that was dying to them and I ended up helping the vet because of the hour and no other help. That was expensive but the other appointments were reasonable. The vet was very good with the cat too. The staff was friendly also.
