Mistral is tucked in a small strip mall, but has a lovely water view since it looks out at a lagoon in Redwood Shores. The atmosphere is pleasant, service is friendly and prompt, and they have some good lunch options as well as tasty appetizers and drinks. For a business lunch or team gathering, it's a good option.

We were hoping to stop past for a quick beer but the bar was full so they had to 'seat' us and then got a bit confused as to why we didn't order food.

I had a lovely lunch and really enjoyed the atmosphere. I think the key is to get a table on the patio to get the full effect. The menu had lots of interesting choices and was not a run of the mill sort of place.

The title says that this is a "family restaurant" but I am not sure if I would bring my kids here (they are 1 and 3) as there were limited choices for them and they perfer to be in a place that they can strech their legs, and I would feel a bit uneasier in this place.

I would go back.

After hearing mixed reviews, I entered the restaurant with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The service was better than expected, timely with meals, water refills, etc. The menu was as expected (reminded me of Steamers in Los Gatos), but with a bit less flavor and consistency of quality in the menu.Given its location to my work, I would eat here again.

PROS: Good atmosphere, nice outdoor seating, decent menu selection
CONS: overall taste of dishes could improve a bit.

My friend and I managed to get a table pretty much immediately at 5:40pm, despite not having any reservations -- although by the time we left, around 7pm, the place had impressively packed in, and I would not be at all surprised if there was a significant wait for people without reservations.

Perhaps because we were so early, and there were so few people there at the time (it really was pretty desolate at 5:30), our service was fairly prompt. I thought there was a bit of a long wait between ordering and my entree, but then I realized I hadn't ordered a salad or anything, while my friend had a salad starter. So that made sense.

The food was really good; I had the Filet Mignon Medallions (or something to that effect) and I very much enjoyed it, although I'm not sure it was worth the $27 sticker price; I've had bigger, exquisite dishes for that price. But it was definitely tasty (not at all disappointed).

All in all, I had a fine experience, although there are other places I'd rather spend $30 a head on.

PROS: Very tasty food, huge wine list, nice decor
CONS: Get exceedingly busy after 6:30, upscale prices.

I liked this place a lot, and so did my 3 friends. I'm not a person that eats out a lot when I do, I'm selective given that I cook and bake from scratch with fresh ingredients. We had mohitos which were good and the bread they bring out is soft and warm.

Two of us had the scallops, 1 had the seafood risotto, and 1 had chicken and we all enjoyed the food though I think the chicken was a bit dry. The scallops were done just right -- not overcooked like it is at some places. And the seafood risotto was creamy.

We had an attentive and friendly water. And we liked the outdoor seating with heat lamps and white tinkling lights. We went in the winter when it was super cold out and it was warm!

I think it's a nice tucked away place that doesn't get loud.

My first impression was great. The restaurant is tucked away in a beautiful waterfront location in Redwood shores and has a great buzz of activity in the nicely furnished dining area and bar. The menu was interersting, not extraodinary, and the hostess made room for us in a raised table along the window that gave us a great view of the restaurant and outdoors.

The experience began to slide from there. The first problem was that my drink order took a good 10 minutes to deliver. Then our dinner order must have taken at least 30, if not 45 minutes, to arrive. When my meal was finally served, it looked like it had been baked from the top by powerful heat lamps.

My pasta dish was flavorful, but the chicken was overcooked to the point of being rubbery. Some other dishes around the table looked quite good.

I will return because the location, decor and ambiance are great. But one more bad food or service experience may keep me away forever.

PROS: Location, decor, ambiance
CONS: Very slow service

The good: Mistral is in a very convenient location (though somewhat hard to find) and has great decor and ambiance.

The bad: the quality of the food was spotty - some people enjoyed their dinners, some didn't. (I personally really liked what I had, an organic pine nut salad and sauteed mushrooms.) Also, the menu is not too friendly to vegetarians.

The ugly: two things:

(1) When we arrived, the host told me that we needed reservations or had to wait an hour, then my co-worker asked again and suddenly we were seated immediately. Different staff members gave us different stories. Maybe they didn' t like the way I looked?

(2) It took forever for our food to arrive. They were quite busy when we arrived, but we must have waited an hour for our food.

PROS: Good location and decor and my food was tasty

I have enjoyed this restaurant many times over the years since it is very close to where I work, but for the life of me I can never remember anything specific that I ate. Each meal has been pleasurable and eating on the deck is quite delightful. The service is solid, the atmosphere is fine and the prices, though perhaps a bit high, are acceptable. I suggest you try it yourself and see what you think.

I went to this restaurant with a group and we got a private room. I wasn't impressed with the food, but the bread was pretty good, and the service was good. I haven't gone back to this restaurant (it has been about 3 years) and I don't plan to.

I like the atmosphere, it is loud but fun. My kids go here happily (and behave pretty well), but it isn't necessarily kid appropriate if your kids aren't used to behaving at a restaurant. There is seating outside when the weather permits and it is lit outside with white lights - very pretty. I only go for dinner, but there is a bar where I have seen what appears to be a cool place to go after work. I can only comment on the skirt steak because why mess with a good thing. It is fabulous! In fact, three generations of our family order this when we go! My husband has had salmon here and he quite enjoyed it.

I thought the place looked very cute, so I decided to go there for my 30th birthday. We reserved a private room, but when we got there - they couldn't seat us in it for 30 minutes. I don't recommend this place.

My husband and I recently went to Mistral for the first time. The overstuffed chairs on the patio with fireplace looked inviting but we chose to eat indoors due to the rain. I had two wonderful Mojitos (great drink!). The warm bread
