WE'VE BEEN TO SHIKI MANY TIMES OVER THE YEARS, ALTHOUGH IT REALLY ISN'T AS TASTY AS IT USED TO BE, PROBABLY A RESULT OF NEW OWNERS. MY GRIPE IS THAT THEY ADDED AN 18% GRATUITY TIP TO MY BILL DURING LUNCH. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF THIS BEING

I walked into Shiki a year ago and was greeted like I was family. The sushi chefs are so friendly and genuine. Since that day, I eat at Shiki 3-4 times per week..sometimes twice a day! The fish is so fresh and surprisingly affordable!

Awesome rolls, usually pretty quick, even on weekends, and definitely worth a try! Try the Rolls Royce....it's killer!

This place (next to the Sportsman's Lodge Hotel) was crowded at lunch time with a lot of regulars who sat at the bar.

We were a group of 5, so we sat at a table & ordered a large sashimi platter & it was some of the worst sushi any of us had ever had.

Sure pieces were huge, but it was obvious that the fish was not fresh. It was not spoiled, it was obviously frozen, defrosted fish (tuna, yellow tail, albacore, bonito) & the fish had very little taste, was very cold & was mealy (like a piece of fruit that won't ripen).

The slices of sashimi were so thick & long they required cutting with a knife. Perhaps this is why there's such a crowd? Big serving size.

If you know anything about sushi, you would not like the fish here because sushi & sashimi are not supposed to be mushy & tasteless.

The chef 'guaranteed' me that the uni (sea urchin) was "very good". It was mediocre. Drive to Iroha Sushi one block west or Katsu-Ya one mile east @ Colfax, if you want good, fresh sushi.

Avoid.

I eat here at least a couple times a month. If I'm not in the mood for something more exoctic, I'll get the Lunch Special. A choice of 2 entrees + spicy tuna rolls, miso and salad for $7.95? What a great bargain!\r
