Deemed to be one of the best breakfast spots for late night eats. This old school diner dishes out some tasty meals. They place is full most of the time. Parkin her can be difficult in downtown.

I'm glad the Hahn's cleaned it up a little, becasue the pantry is an LA staple. Soul food doesn't even begin to describe the love that they have for traditional American breakfasts. By traditional, I mean HUGE!!! The staff is caring,

We were a party of 10 last night, a busy St. Patrick's day. Without even greeting us, a waiter came to us to tell us to move to the other side of the line as we were blocking the entrance. He told us it is clearly stated in the front

My wife and I have been going to the pantry for over 20 years and the portions at breakfast were hefty. Not any more. The thick bacon got thin, potatoe servings are 1/2 of what they used to be and they use small (no longer jumbo) eggs.

Not what it used to be. . .Waiters and cashier hardly speak English and when I ordered 'Roast Beef' they served pot roast, saying, 'It is roast beef'. YUK Sorry you lost me as a customer and I will be telling everybody about this nasty experience that cost me $50 for three peopleTips to other customers: Stay away and rather go to Norms Restaurants at least you will get what you ordered and also not be served by staff that appears to be illegal aliens

We wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. After years of hearing what a good place this is to eat, we finally got a chance to try it. What a disappointment! We both ordered breakfasts, and both were lacking a key ingredient in any good

Owned by ex-Mayor Richard Riordan, it is open 24 hours a day and has not closed since 1924. The doors don't even have locks! Breakfast, lunch or dinner will more than fill your tank for a very reasonable charge. For dinner, the steaks are juicy and come with steamed veggies and potatoes. The eclectic crowd leans more toward the working stiff, but everyone is welcome here.

Ok if you're planning on going to this historical cafe in downtown L.A. you have to go knowing it's like stepping into the past. The service is great and most servers/waiters have been there more than 20 years. The food is very American, in that it's huge portions and very much a variety of comfort food. I highly recommend this place to take out-of-town guests since it's such a unique experience. It may not be the cleanest place or prettiest but give it credit for being open since the 1920's and never being closing. The chicken fried steak is a MUST have for any time of day. Have fun!

The have an excellent breakfast, but I only get to partake in this little treasure if i can get myself up and out the door by 6:00 am. A line is quick to form by 7:00am. The pantry has good food but I wouldn't wait two hours in line to eat here. Dinner and lunch is not as tasty as breakfast but I would recommend the beef soup. The service is great and very friendly.

I'm not a big fan of this place and I have no idea why it is so popular. The decor that reminded me of a prison cafeteria in a bad early movie. Their steaks are cheap but pretty bad. I think the sole on my shoe is more tender than the pork chops at lunch. The cole slaw was alright, as for their "famous" buckwheat pancakes for breakfast - they were very dry and difficult to get through. I went three times and I'm now wondering what brought me there again in first place. Thumbs down.

The Original Pantry Cafe has been a tradition in Los Angeles for over 50 years. Although they are open 24 hours a day, I recommend and love breakfast at the Pantry. The servers are a bunch of old guys that have worked there almost as long as the restaurant has been open. They are a little rough around the edges, but they are perfect for this place. There are no menus. You order off of large menu boards located around the dinning area. This is the kind of place you take a big group, particularly if they are visiting from out of town. There are no low-calorie, heart-smart breakfasts here. So leave your diet at home for the morning. Plan to stand in line. This is a good thing because it helps you build up the HUGE appitite you are going to need to get through your breakfast. Everything is served with toast, which is 1-2" thick slices of sourdough bread. The pancakes are the size of the plates. The omlettes aren't much smaller. Every breakfast is enough to feed at least two people, maybe more. And your jaw will drop when you realize you paid so little for such a spread.

PROS: Amazing food and lots of it
CONS: Plan on waiting in line for about an hour

I hear all kinds of gossip about this place. When I finally went I was surprised. The staff were down to earth (false rumor #1), it was clean (false rumor #2), the food was great (false rumor #3) and there was no parking for under $10 (only true rumor). I say --- enjoy. The Pantry has been arround Los Angeles forever and in the time they perfected the meatloaf, which I enjoyed.

The breakfast here is phenomenal. Fluffy pancakes, great ham steak and huge servings all around! The staff is great and many have been working there for over 20 years. Note: There is usually a long line on Sat and Sun mornings -- so get there early. If you don't mind sitting at the counter the lines are much shorter!

I visited this restaurant, once. For lunch.

I walked in the door, and was greeted by Joe and Larry's unblinking, expressionless compound gaze. They spoke in their squeaky, helium-high voices: "Welcome to the Pantry!!" The cockroaches waved two of their legs in greeting, and pointed two more to my seat.

My co-workers and I sat down, after flicking the chunks of food off of the vinyl booth seat exterior. I took a look around at what other "meals" the victims -- excuse me, patrons -- had been served. Rather than purchasing the amorphous pile of grease and protein platter, I instead ordered a salad with dressing.

After arrival, I poured the dressing all over my salad, and took a bite. The salad bit back, filling my mouth with bitter, curdled ranch. I should have expected this, but for some reason, I didn't.

They say that the Pantry is "Historic," and even "Original." And a good place to take children. Clearly the latter review came from a member of the pro-death party.
