I have gone to Torrance Family Practice in Manhattan Beach for several years and have had a good experience with Dr. Swift. My problems have been with the unresponsive and uncaring front office staff. I have excellent insurance but no one ever calls back when I have questions. I also had to beg them for several months to refund money they owed me due to being paid twice, once by me and a 2nd time by my insurance carrier. I hate having to find a new physician because of staff deficiencies, but that's my plan.

I am stuck with these guys because of my HMO. The wait time is horrible and they constantly are making major mistakes. Last time I was there they gave me a referral for the wrong type of doctor, so it took two extra weeks to see that right one If you have to go with these guys ask for a nurse practitioner. Every time I have been shifted to a nurse because the doctors are unavailable I have actually gotten descent care. Every other time has been a major disappointment.

When I got there, I was informed that one of the doctors (Dr. Swift) was on vacation and that Dr. Jones would be handling my appointment, which was a pre-op approval for general anesthesia (basic bloodwork and an EKG). I waited 1 1/2 hours for my appointment, which took 5 minutes and was "aided" by an incompetent nurse who kept forgetting a) that I was there and b) what I was having done. After 2 1/2 hours, the two 5-minute procedures were finally done. I was told that my surgeon would have all of the EKG and lab information within two days. After five days, my surgeon had not received a single result. I called and was given a bunch of excuses, from "you didn't give us a fax number" (I did) to "there's one test that isn't in yet" (they'd said they would send results as they got them). Not one apology, and I was set for surgery in one day. Incompetent and uncaring -- Go elsewhere.

PROS: few to none
CONS: incompetent, uncaring, unprofessional, unapologetic

We've had a very good experience with Dr. Jones. She's smart, friendly, and caring. Recently, she was able to correctly diagnose a condition that had been incorrectly diagnosed by another physician only days before. She has a very busy practice which may affect how quickly you can get an appointment, but shows how popular she is.
