SO DISAPPOINTED! We were on vacation and decided to get massages during our stay. The website is so NOT what you experience. We drove up to an industrial/residential area...proceeded down a long BACK driveway with broken down cars and campers. As we parked a girl was in her car next to us and was lighting up a glass pipe which we surmised was a "crack pipe" due the omission of any smells coming from the car. We wanted to leave our valubles locked in the car but under these circumstances even leaving the car didn't seem safe! We called the front desk and a woman came out and proceeded to tell us that she would charge us full price if we didn't come in...we called our bank, the police and left...she called us and informed us that the girl in her parking lot was smoking "pot" and had a license to do so...In public and/or driving is not legal...regardless...not the atmosphere we were expecting.
Note even after all this she charged our card $260.00! THEIVES!!!

Every time I come to Kiva I get work done by a new massage therapist! There are so many well trained, professional masseuses there, and I love trying them out. They all have different training and modalities, so I'm constantly getting novel massages. Heidi will walk on your back, Lalita will use healing vibrational energy, and Leah will stretch you out. I would recommend any of the therapists, as each experience will be fantastic!

Having a good time at Kiva is really dependent on feeling comfortable, and there being a good vibe out in the community area. Sometimes it seems there's a huge overabundance of men, which can make some people feel a bit uncomfortable (seeing as how everyone is naked). Kiva just started doing "couple's nights" on Fridays, which means men can only come in if accompanied by a woman, which I think will help with single men cruising. So, bring a date, enjoy the tubs, and maybe even sign up for a couple's massage in the fireplace room!

I went in for a massage, and had a great session and experience, I would highly recomend the Kiva retreat, friendly, accomodating, professional staff. A very relaxing, invorgorating deep tissue massage by a very talented therapist.

What a lovely garden, hot tubs, wood sauna, and more.
We usuall go as a group and bring a picnic.
I love that the affordable $20 entry is an all day pass.
Massage is world class. I do recommend calling the day before to get the time you want.
A must see if travelers, a regular haven for locals.

This urban oasis is a rare treat. The friendly, helpful staff
create a warm and casual environment.
The massage therapists I have tried have all been amazing
body workers.
My favorite way to go is to use the jacuzzi and huge dry
sauna, lie out in the lovely garden, and then get massage.
The community entry pass is an all day pass, so sometimes
I go and come back later that night.
I recommend this experience highly!

I've tried Kiva off and on for 2.5 years; it has never attained it's full potential because it's run by clueless, incompetent morons. Beautiful sauna but it's either scorching hot or not hot enough - they don't believe in actually using a thermometer and keeping a predictable temperature (say 180 degrees?) but prefer to keep everyone guessing and uncomfortable, berating those who dare complain. Something is always broken. Don't expect much as long as these flakes are in charge; it is not the peaceful, safe refuge for body and soul that it aspires to be.

Very low key, however a lot of the patrons take advantage of the clothing optional rule. If you are at all uncomfortable with this, I would recommend something more private like the Tea House. Overall though, a nice place to go and relax.

This place has literally saved my sanity on many occasions. There are two hot tubs, a sauna, a cold plunge, and lots of grass for laying on. And delicious free tea. If you're a student, you can access the communal areas for a mere 12 dollars a day, with in and out privileges. If you've got a bit more money, you can enjoy an absolutely fabulous massage. Right in the middle of downtown, but you'll feel like you're hundreds of miles from the daily grind. Oh and by the way, be prepared for the nudity thing. Don't worry, it's not as bad as it sounds. And you can wear your bathing suit if you want... just don't expect everyone else to be!

You cannot find a more relaxing place to spend your free time. The staff is marvelous and the grounds are like a Garden of Eden. My wife and I are regularly visitors who always looking forward to visiting Kva and always hate leaving.

What Kiva lacks in the way of Japanese gardens and combo saunas they more than make up for with their outdoor, redwood enclosed hottubs. Perfect for early evening R&R. And with Santa Cruz's gentle weather patterns, it's almost a year-round treat. Sip Odwalla and chill.

Message from Kiva Retreat House

Many of the gathering places in our community garden (the hot tubs and sauna) were set up in a way where people could relax and easily make contact with other people. We've created a place where people can experience themselves and others in a warm, friendly and beautiful setting. We look forward to having you join us.

To maintain the safety and comfort of our clothing optional community baths, we do ask for I.D. from all guests. We offer women's morning from 900 AM to 130 PM on Sunday morning in case you are not comfortable with co-ed bathing.

The community baths, private tubs, and massage rooms are cleaned every morning.

More about Kiva Retreat House

Kiva is a healing space for the integration of mind and body. It is modeled after a Japanese Bath House, where community members gather to cleanse, rejuvenate and nurture themselves in communal hot baths and saunas in a lush, peaceful garden.
