The restaurant offered great service and tasty food. It was only a small place but the staff was very accommodating.

Except for their service that seems to be inconsistent, their food is delicious.

The aroma alone makes me want to sit there forever.
Our favorites: yaki soba, sashimi bowl, agedashi tofu, soft-shell crab appetizer, menmochi (if you like

This is real Japanese food. There is a sushi bar and even a room to sit on the floor. Great Fun.

There is usually a wait so be prepared. Its worth it/ I love the skewers. Bacon wrapped Asparagus and the Large prawns are the family favorite. Try the ponsu beef. Its a real treat!

Probably one of the most popular sushi establishments in Orange County, these guys know how to serve it up raw! There are many unusual items to try for those who are not timid. I won't mention them here, because some of those delights do not have tasty names.

Be bold, explore! This is the place to do it, adventure seekers!

Great selection of sake too.

Get there EARLY if you don't like standing outside waiting; there is no sitting area or lobby. Everything I've ever eaten here is mighty tasty, but not cheap.

I have lived in Japan for 27 years and going to Hond Ya is like eating at a good izakaya in Tokyo except for the American beer.

They have a good variety of food and authentically prepared. Offers items not commonly found at other Japanese restaurants so it draws Japanese customers from far away.

Definitely worth trying!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Orange County. I love Japanese and I love Tapas...so this place is kind of an Asian Tapas place with all it's small dishes to order and share. Try the miso eggpant and the butterfish....yum!!! The Cheese Age and also the bacon wrapped Okra A+++

It's good to finally see a good sushi place open late around here. Sometimes you just get that craving after a night out and now I know where to go. It's pretty much always busy (the 2 times I've been) but the servers are really nice and try to take care of you as fast as possible. Their hot items are pretty standard, but still good, but their rolls are definitely choice. I'd recommend coming early to enjoy it more, but its great no matter what time you go.

This is the best! There's nothing more to say about this restaurant. It has good traditional Japanese food, and all of it's good. There's quite a wait, but still worth it. Yes, it's that good.

Honda YA is the only restaurant open in Tustin up to 1:00am in the morning. From the time of opening at 5:30pm there is a waiting list, but it's always best to get there early to enjoy the best Japanese food in the OC. You'd think you were in Japan based on the quality of the food and attentiveness of the waiters and waitresses. My love the exotic sushi selection and most of all meat on the sticks.

OK... so i have been going to Honda Ya for a few years now and have seen its growth for those of you who are dual yelp users this is an amazing restaurant the izakaya style is wonderful for the late night diner but remember the lines to eat are always growing and the food quality is going down with its growing popularity.
But trust me its worth trying. Wow ginger pork..

After living 6 years in Japan, I have found Honda-ya to be the closest thing to an authentic Japanese izakaya in Orange County (Shinsengumi is good, too, but it's in Torrance). Sushi is not the specialty here. This is a great place to go for yakitori, ramen, and a chuuhai or draft beer. In the usual izakaya style, you can order a la carte as you drink. An order or takoyaki here, one of edamame there, and so on. The combination plates are the affordable way to go in more American style dining, but the a la carte dishes are worth the extra expense when I want to enjoy the nostalgia (it cost $85 for my wife, daughter, and me when we ate the traditional fare, though).

Get there right when it opens at 5:30 PM if you don't want to have to wait long.

This is a great example of what a fun restaurant should be. This is not a romantic spot nor is it a place for a quiet evening. This is a place to grab a few friends and enjoy the food, drinks and company. There are booths as well as one large community area where you will sit elbow to elbow with fellow patrons. This isn't a place to order entrees. The style is simple, snack and drink to your heart's content. The "Yaki-tori" is all on a stick, ranging from chicken hearts (very recommended) to bacon wrapped asparagus to quail eggs. There is more on the menu however. There are rice dishes, noodle dishes and side dishes. I recommend the Tako-Yaki (lil squid-balls). Although the beer is a lil pricey (it's almost always pricey at Japanese restaurants) the food is very reasonable. For fun times and great food go to Honda Ya.

I love this place! Very traditional Japanese food you will not find anywhere else in California...including Little Tokyo. Great place to bring a big group and get a pitcher of beer and some of their delicious yakitori (they give you a list similar to a sushi one that lets you check all of the different types of meats you want to order). Try something new on the menu everytime you go...you'll find that they have geat items that will keed you coming back. The waiter's are super friendly and helpful too...just don't be shy to ask for service sometimes since it does get busy quite often. Mostly japanese customers but mixed crowd more often now that more people are finding out about this place.

The food is average, service is good but if you don't understand a bit of Japanese this place can be confusing. It really caters to Japanese speakers... Parking is easy and although we ate early (around 5:30pm) we were about the only ones in there. Not kid-friendly.

This local Japanese restaurant has inventive and traditional sushi, as well as hot pots, and other conventional Japanese fare. We had an outstanding beef and tofu hot pot, and a couple very fresh types of sushi rolls. We saw ahi tuna salad at the next table that looks good too. My friend and I were the only non-Japanese customers there. There's good reason it's popular with the locals.

You can tell it's an authentic Japanese place when the majority customers are Japanese. They have wide selection of choice, but can be confusing if it's your first time. A great place to drink and relax with friend. When you walk in, you feel it's a buzzling place with cute wooden interior. I noticed this place has longer line as it gets later. So if you don't want to wait for more than 30 minute, arrive before 7pm.

The exterior looks like a farm warehouse. Oh, this place is supposed to open til 1am, but one time I arrived 12:30pm, they said they were closing.

PROS: free and easy parking
CONS: long line after 8:30pm

I have been to countless Japanese restaurants in California and none of them feel and tast as Japanese as this one. Although they have the standard "Americanized" Japanese meals, they also provide many authentic dishes that often cannot even be found in little Tokyo. The resteraunt service is also more of the Japanese style, so call the waiters over if you dont want to wait a long time for service. Even the atmosphere puts me back in the middle of a Tokyo restaurant!!
