it should then be called Donner kebab. the meat was very crisp and dry the tabbouleh was Olly. I would not recommend this place as a gyro restaurant. If Greek's aren't the owners don't expect a good gyro

The name is a misnomer, Gyros is a Greek word and this is an authentic Turkish Restaurant. The "GYROS" is really Donner Kebab and served in authentic Turkish style. The hot dishes can be wonderful... like their baked lamb shank, or the stuffed eggplant. All the "plate" dishes come with salad and two kinds of Pilaf... one is tomato based bulgur and the other rice simmered in chicken stock. The Lentil soup is exquisitely authentic as are the pastries. Be sure you try the Lechmajun or Turkish pizza! Wonderful!!! Prices are fair based on San Francisco norms and the portions are large. Its counter service and the two Turks behind the counter are a bit aloof, but still helpful.
I recommend it to anyone who wants Real Turkish Cuisine. Ed/SF

I had the falafel and it was very good. I'm not used to a grilled wrap but I liked it! The tabouli was not as good. It was a litttle too lemony and oily. I prefer a more dry tabouli.

UPDATE: The King has recently remodeled its dining room! They've painted, expanded it back like 15 feet, and replaced all of the furniture. It's a much bigger and nicer establishment now. The menu did not change however. The meats are still 100% Halal if you're into that.

Original:
Sure it's not glamorous. Sure it's not that exciting. But you can always count on 'the king' for a cheapish and edible gyro near the civic center.

I always get the #23 Chicken Gyro. It's $6.35. Pretty tasty and reliable.

A lot of gyro places are sketchy, but I trust the king.

This is a restaurant with many blends of middle eastern cuisines. I like their gyro beef with rice, humus, salad, and bread. They got sweet baklavas and the round one is my favorite - because it is soft and really sweet. Customer service is efficient and the price is reasonable. Location is close to San Francisco Public Library - so there are no parking garages. Park at sidestreet. Best bet is by public transportation.

Solid selection of mediterannean food at good prices with fast service. Several tables with a steady stream of customers. Gyro sandwhiches are pretty good and for the carb conscious they've got several decent sized meat only plates and salads with meat.
