Joseph Schmidt has some of the very best high quality chocolates in the city. I love their truffles and the designs are just truly beautiful, and the taste is even better. They also sell gift boxes that are great gifts to friends, or even to yourself!

I've read that they are now owned by Heresey's so let's hope quality doesn't fall.

The chocolate is amazingly tasty. The variety is wonderful and they usually have some very clever new chocolates in cute shapes. The only downside is that the staff basically ignores you until you ask for assistance and then condescendingly helps you. I'll still keep coming back for the chocolate.

Originally started here in 1983 on the edge of SF's Castro & Mission District, Founder Joseph Schmidt recently purchased an old bread bakery down the street and now churns out 10 million chocolate truffles a year. Many of his chocolates are sold through high end retail around the country, but this is the store that started it all.
