Wonderful Chiken Tikka Masala and I love their Tandoori Chiken!! And Mango Lassi is amazing! They have a lunch buffee, which has so many kinds of curries. Also we can eat as much as for chiken tandoori, vegitable salada, and vegi pakoras. I like to come here all the time :)

Pros: Excellent Chiken Tandoori & Mangolassi

Cons: The edge of Culver City, but quiet place

My husband & I eat out often -- and we happen to enjoy Indian food a lot. What an absolute surprise to find the new management: Keshew and his darling wife, Jaswant to be not only warm and friendly but serve the most delicious Indian food in their newly refreshed restaurant. Everything is fresh and tasty and -- priced right.

How convenient for us to go there often since it happens to be right across the street from where we live at the new and approved Ralphs shopping center in trendy Culver City. We walk... but if you drive there's lots of free parking.

This restaurant is not to be missed.

Pros: It's become our favorite Indian restaurant in Los Angeles

Cons: There aren't any.

.

My wife and I have eaten often at Shalimar. In the past it was because we enjoy Indian food and it was convenient, but was not our favorite Indian restaurant. With the new management it has become our favorite Indian restaurant, and we will enjoy bringing friends there for lunch or dinner. Everything I have ordered since the change in ownership has been excellently prepared and delicious. The quality is far better than it was under previous management. The owner and chef, Keshew and Jaswant Chahal, are very friendly and accommodating. They take a personal interest in ensuring that their customers are happy. They have a very interesting array of chutneys, the nan is excellent, and our favorite dishes, including eggplant, spinach and tandoori dishes are prepared as well as we have had in the best Indian restaurants we have visited in Los Angeles.
The ambience is very pleasant and attractive, free parking is abundantly available, and the daily luncheon buffet is outstanding, very freshly cooked and reasonably priced. It is an excellent choice for business lunches. Keshew was previously the chef at the Bombay Caf?, and does an outstanding job. He takes a personal interest in making sure that customers have a great dining experience.

Shalimar restaurant under the new management is totally transformed. It's amazing that quality and taste of food has improved substantially. I have been to several resturants in this area for last 10 years but this one gets a 5 star rating particularly in the category of Indian authentic food.

Management and staff are very friendly and we felt like at home. My kids like samosas, pakoras and lassi here. Since the food is so tasty, we end up eating a lot and need to plan for extra exercise.

This restaurant is in a quite location and spacious enough to have a party.

I don?t like to write about a place that has just opened or changed ownership but the food at Shalimar is so good and such a good value that I feel compelled to let people know about it. Like all new places the kitchen was a little slow but the staff is friendly and we had amazing shrimp and fish pakoras with a fresh, delicious, bright green-chili chutney, a sizzling platter of addicting ?chili chicken?, a dish of succulent chicken curry (on the bone for maximum flavor), a bowl of Paneer in an amazing tomato and cream sauce and a perfect onion naan. I can?t wait to go back and try more of the menu....

I have been a lover of Indian food for over 35 years. I have enjoyed this fine cuisine in San Francisco, New York, London and Los Angeles. I have found a number of quality Indian Restaurants in the Los Angeles area; Akbar, Surya, Holy Cow & Bombay Caf? to name a few. However, I have struggled to find a local Indian Restaurant here in Culver City. Well, that changed at the beginning of this New Year! I was surprised one day to find that the former head chief of the Bombay Caf? had taken over the entire operations of Shalimar. Finally I could get great authentic Indian food in Culver City. Believe me Indian food lovers?.there is a difference in authentically prepared Indian food and places that advertise they serve Indian food. Chef Keshew Chahal & his wife, Jaswant know how to serve up authentic Indian food. I highly recommend this restaurant and suggest you try their lunch buffet or anything on their variety filled menu. They will cook to your desire including vegan dishes. On the Root Coalition scale of 1 to 5?Shalimar gets a 5!

Cons: Sandra's posting!

Hello foodies?love awesome strip mall mom and pop ventures. This place rocks with deliciousness!!!!!!!!!! These new owners put their heart, soul and talent into their food. I started with the buffet lunch to check it out and now I?m a regular. This little joint is perhaps my favorite new place to eat!

Pros: The flavor is the bomb!!!

Cons: Not open for breakfast!

.

I love the food here, it has so much flavor that makes me crave it on a daily basis. The chicken curry over rice is amazing. I didnt expect lamb makhni to be on the lunch menu and enjoyed that as well. I enjoy coming back as often as i do.

There are always people returning and coming and going for takeout orders.

I dont know what Sandra is talking about, I love this place and will be returning for more.

I originally posted this on Yelp, but I am repeating it everywhere possible.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. My boyfriend and I have been eating there for a while, but mainly because they are a) close to my house, b) they deliver, and c) I used to be of the philosophy that even BAD Indian food was better than no Indian food.

And truth is, the food didn't used to be bad. It was pretty good. The service was horrible, though--very rude and bordering on mean. And the prices were ridiculous! I practically had to take out a bank loan every time we ate there, and it's not like we ordered a lot of food.

Now, they are boldly advertising "UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT." If I were them, I'd keep that on the down low. Cuz they SUCK now.

I have nothing good to say about the place.

For ex., they used to have an 8pc tandoori chicken special for $10.95. Suddenly, that's gone and in its place is a $17.95 8pc tandoori "special", and a HALF order of that is now $10.95. Yes, you get FOUR measly pieces of tandoori chicken for the same price you used to get EIGHT.

Plus the tandoori chicken doesn't even taste like tandoori chicken! It tastes like el pollo loco chicken that was sitting out all day and left to dry up.

Overall, avoid this place like the plague. If anyone knows of a good Indian restaurant in Culver City that delivers, please hit me up! Thanks!

I was skeptical of a supermarket mall restaurant but Shalimar really exceeded my expectations. Very tasty food. Some dishes are a bit too rich but that's just a personal preference. Friendly service and the prices are fair.

The Kashimiri chicken with peaches is the perfect mixture of flavors. Their vegetable korma is mouth watering. The saag is full the taste of India. Top it off with a mango lassi (yogurt drink) and your are set.

This place is great! I am not a spice lover, but this place is something! They have many great selections on their lunch buffet and it is great value. It was my first visit and I am sure I will go back again.
If you are not familiar with indian food, but just try their Chicken Tikka Masala. I bet you will fall in love with it.

I may not be an expert on indian food but i say this was a pretty good find for me. I don't eat indian food that much but my roommate is indian so of course, i had some indian food and liked it since. So i try this place for a change and it was really good. Definately, if you're going for the ambiance then it's not really a good place but the food was pretty good. Of course, this is my opinion, you should try it out

This place is downright ..thumbs down, way down.. food is unappetizing and bland. I originally went there because they were listed on the Entertainment Coupon book.. .. but dang, that was a hateful mistake.

Also, for those who use the Entertainment Coupon book, beware... this place will try to trick you. The coupon although it does not state, only applies for their ala cart menu... and the waiters/owners will not tell you that till you get the bill. when i was there, two groups including myself was shafted. Very shady if you ask me.

ill never think of going there again.

Very authentic Indian without grease. Shrimp Vindaloo, Fish Masala, and Mint Lassee are out of this world. Chicken Tikka Masala is the best I had in the U.S. More authentic than in London. Spicy is really spicy -- but you'll love every dish here. Not a date location - but easy to park. Chowhound proud. Customer service is good and efficient.

This is a great family owned Indian joint. The Saag, Chicken Tikka and Siek Kabab are all terrific. After ordering from them about 3-4 times, they began treating us with the extra warmth of regular customers, and the owner or his daughter have gone out of their way to deliver to us, even when the delivery guy has gone home. It is a bit on the pricey side, but generally this is true for indian food. The portions are large; 2 people with large appetites could split any of their dinners if they just ordered extra naan.

If you love indian food and looking for a decent bite just avoid this place.

We order tandoori platter and they mix the platter in some sort of curry and onion(a lot of them), and it tastes horrible. Bendi masala has more onions than bendi. We drove a lot to get there and it was terrible. The most horribe indian food I had so far in California. Seriously if u ever tasted real indian food you will hate this place

I'm no expert in Indian food, but they have some dishes there that I just love. The quality of the food is what keeps me coming back. I salivate every time I think about their Kashmiri Chicken. The service is fine, but I do wish that there were a spot where I didn't have the music videos in my line of sight. A contemplative raga would nice every now and then. Prices are a little on the high side, but not way out of line.

The food is great, and we really enjoyed it. However, the service is awful. The last time we went, it took them half an hour to bring us water, another 15 minutes to take our order. And that was only AFTER I went up to the counter and asked if we could get a waiter. We ended up having to scarf down our food so we wouldn't be late for our movie, which defeats the point of yummy food.

The food was really bad. Everything was bland. The ambience was not at all Indian. The waitress was extremely rude! We saw the ratings on net & arranged a party there. We were embarrassed by the whole experience. Those people have surely lost few good customers. Beware of the waitress! She can serve naans even before the drinks! & then if you say something, she has a nerve to argue that "you should have told me before". Something called "basic common sense" is missing. A BIG NO to this place they call Shalimar Cuisine.

we ordered takout for 3 people and our bill was 97 dollars, the food was more expensive than priced in the menu, (7 $ for a small soup when in the menu they were 4 & 5) on a 10 $ entree we had to pay extra for white rice but the biggest shock of all was the 15 dollar tip they added onto our credit card on top of what we gave them. the food was not that great at all and we feel so ripped off we're compelled to write a review, find somewhere else to go, these people are shady and the hidden costs are ridiculous. also i should say that the menu was up to date as we picked it up when we got the food, then came home and couldn't figure out why the bill was 25$ more than it should have been.

Shalimar is Culver City's hidden gem. I was lucky enough to discover it when I lived nearby and now I'll venture all the way across town when I'm in the mood for a truly excellent meal. It's a comfortable, unassuming neighborhood restaurant run by friendly, helpful people. You probably wouldn't expect a restaurant in a Ralph's shopping center to serve up the best Indian dishes in the L.A. area, but this one certainly does.

This place has great indian food for the price + take out and delivery. Sure its not a see and be seen place--but its about the food not the atmosphere.

.

An inexpensive Indian restaurant buffet with surprisingly good food. Not the best, but for the price you get a great buffet deal. Usually offers a good selection of dishes, including soup, samosas, nan, meats and vegetables.
