Theres nothing in the world I love more than my collie, Starka. I almost lost her in 2018 after she was hit by a car in front of our house. My neighbor and I rushed her to the closest animal clinic, which was Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital. Starka had two broken rib bones and her left leg was broken, too. Now, two years later, Starka has made a full recovery and were both as happy as can be.

I owe Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital a lot. Theyve saved three of our dogs when they were poisoned in our farm. It was a very stressful time for me and my family, but we pulled through. We lost one dog. While we still grieve for her, we are still very grateful those three survived.

We've had to move a lot in the last 15 years and been been to alot of clinics. Luckily most of them were great, including Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital. We have a checklist of the stuff we look for in a vet clinic and with Canyon Country, every box was checked.

Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital is one of those establishments that weve always looked forward to going to when we still lived there. Yeah, we moved to Pensacola late last year and weve found another animal clinic in the area. But well never forget everyone at Canyon Country Vet. They took care of our dog like she was their own.

How can you tell if a veterinary clinic is a good veterinary clinic? There are a number of criteria. Is about how good the doctors are or the staff? Is it about how complete the facilities are? To me, its all of that and more. Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital has a great and complete staff and crew. Their facilities are clean and top-class. And a majority of their clients say good things about them. Thats has to be a good thing.

Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital is the best vet clinic weve been to in California. We moved here from Daly City in spring last year and my husband and I were desperate to find a good vet clinic. As it happens, Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital is only a 15-minute drive from our place, which made it convenient. But what really got us was how we were treated the minute we entered the clinic. I know we probably arent their biggest clients, but they treated us and our pets like royalty.

Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital has always the animal health center of our choice ever since they saved our lab Junko. He had been sick for days and we were sure we would lose him. Its a good thing my aunt recommended Canyon Country Vet Hospital and they accepted us on short notice. We had to leave Junko with them for two days and we had to dig into our savings to pay (the price was rather steep), but it was worth it. Today, Junko is a proud daddy of two little pups.

I have every reason to be grateful to Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital. If it wasnt for them, Id be living alone right now during the global health crisis, mourning my Barney. But because of the medical staff and doctors in the clinic, I have the best company during these absolute worst of times.

Canyon Country has always been our animal clinic of choice. From the very first moment we set foot in it, my husband and I knew our dogs were in good hands. First, the staff took care of us pretty well and made us feel at home. Next, the doctors explained everything to us in terms we could understand. Then after that, both the staff and doctors remembered who were when we came back. Finally, they kept in touch to check up on us. Now, thats dedication to the work, and for me, worth every penny.

I lost one of my Chihuahuas early this year. I know the pain a lot of people here are going through and I just want to say that sometimes, even with the best efforts of doctors, pets pass on. I also know that the doctors at Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital did all they could and I thank them for that.

I can say this with utmost confidence -- Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital is the best animal clinic Ive ever been to in three states. Weve moved from Michigan to Texas, and now, California, and weve taken our dogs with us wherever weve been to. Theyre a part of the family after all. Weve been to six animal clinics. Some of them were better than others. But Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital blows them all away.

Canyon Country Vet Hospital has always been very accommodating of me, my wife, my kids, and our three family dogs. You see, when one of our dogs get sick, we all go to the clinic together. Its amazing how the staff there takes their time to talk to all of us, even the kids to explain things and keep us from worrying. While most clinics have this tension about them, Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital doesnt. Thats a big reason we continue to go there.

I took Betsy, our little beagle to Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital just last week. She wasnt her usual self. I began to worry. Good thing the doctor was in and attended to us right away. Im still giving Betsy some meds, but she seems to be getting better. Will visit again next week for a follow-up.

We absolutely love Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital. For us, its been the best clinic for all our dogs ever since we moved from the East Coast. Honestly, we were afraid we wouldnt find a clinic like the one we had back in CT, but Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital gave us that same safe feeling.

To everyone with bad things to say about Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital, I sympathize with you and all the things your pets had to endure. But thats the reality of owning a pet. Theyre like humans. They get sick. They get injured. And they die. Ive had two pets die in the past five years. The second one was last year. We took him to Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital and they were honest enough to tell us what we already knew. They did make things comfortable for our dog and he didnt suffer as much as we feared he would.

How great is Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital? For starters, weve taken our three cats to almost every other vet in the area and there was always something that didnt quite suit our taste. In Canyon Country Vet Hospital however, everything felt right, from the facilities to the staff and the doctors. That gut feeling is a big deal especially when looking for a place to care for your loved ones.

I really dont care if Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital charges a bit high for care of my puppies. Bottom line is that theyre in good hands and I can rest easy at night at home even if they have to spend the night in the clinic. You cant put a price on peace of mind.

I still remember our first visit to Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital. My wife (who was my fianc back then) told me her poodle needed to undergo surgery. So, I drove them to the clinic. The first person who took us in was the receptionist, I think. Shortly after, some of the staff came by to check up on us and told us not to worry. Today, after being married for over a year now, my wife and I still bring our dogs (we have three now) to Canyon Country. First impressions last, people, and that clinic gave us a great one.

About a year ago, I thought my cat was done for. It hadnt been eating and it could barely raise its head. I brought it right away to Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital and the staff took her in right away. They told me not to worry and the vet would tend to everything. Two days later, it was like nothing happened. My cat was up and about. The bill was a bit pricey, but who cares?

Dr Shadu did not seem to be very caring or warm.
I felt as though it was not about the good care of my pet.

Please do-not take your pets here.

I have previously used the "OLD" CC Animal hospital as my primary vet for my pets. I never experienced any of the failings as mentioned below, but maybe I was just lucky. After not having to use the vet for a period of a couple years, I was surprised to learn this place was no longer the same vet, yet it is still at the same location with a similar name.

To anyone who is reading the below reviews of the "Old" place. Please disregard those, as they are not relevant to this new business.. Most of the staff has changed, all the old files on pets have been deleted. Dr Kim (who is outstanding) is the only veterinarian who remained at this clinic from the old one. She is great! First off, if you've never brought your pet to this office, the first visit is free. If you were a customer at the old place, and you need to bring in your pet to this place, the first visit is still free, even though he or she has been there before...Reason being because the old files didn't transfer over with the new business.

Their prices are relatively the same as other vets in the area, give or take a few dollars. I had 4 pets that needed to be checked up on for an illness that ran through them all and the staff encouraged me to bring in all 4 at once and got me in a very timely manner. I was impressed. Dr Kim told me if the pets weren't getting better, to give her a call and she'd prescribe new meds without having to see them. This is important because there are other vets in the SC area that would require you to come in for a follow up, even though you may have just been there a few days prior. Of course, you would also be charged for a follow up appointment at the same time.

A bonus to this place is they are directly tied to the after hours emergency clinic "all creatures animal emergency", on Lyons. The benefit to this is if you're pet is a patient at CCAH, and you need to bring him or her in for emergency, they waive the initial office visit fee, as long as your pet has already been seen at CCAH for the same illness. Saving you some 35-40 bucks.

I've used several other vets in the area recently. Mostly because my newest pet came with a certificate of waived fees if I were to choose a vet on a list that complies with the certificate. After experiencing sub par work by other vets, I came back to this place to pay full price. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in the area (or out of the area) who wants quality and is not looking to get ripped off by repeated appointments leading to costly trips.

I dont think the previous statements are directed to the new staff/ facility. This place is great! The doctor and staff were friendly and very caring. I took my fathers cat in who had been ill for the past monthy or so. They diagnosed him with diabetes and did a wonderful job of explaining the treatment and home care that I would be required to provide since my father himself is elderly and has his own set of medical issues. This is the only veterinarian I have been to in the past 5 years or so as we did not have any family pets of our own until my father moved in. Im very glad we found Canyon Country Veterinary Hospital! TOP NOTCH!!!

I actually work at another veterinary office a while away and a friend of mine that lives in Santa Clarita needs his cat euthanized, so I thought I'd spare him the hassle and heartache, and call around for him. His cat is very old with a large growth in his jaw that is now preventing him from eating. I wanted to help him find a clinic that could euthanize him for as little as possible (think poor college student) since the animal shelter no longer provides that service for the public (because people always abused that service by having their healthy animal euthanized). I called Canyon Country, thinking they would have one of the cheaper prices around, and thought the service might be good since Bonavera died (sorry Dr B fans, but he was a pretty bad man). I called them up, the male receptionist was SO rude it was ridiculous! I let him know I work at another clinic and know the pet legally needs an exam before they can euthanize and he rudely tells me, they don't euthanize animals their vet "doesn't have a relationship with". I let him know the animal has a massive tumor in his jaw, he can not eat, and his quality of life at this point is terrible, and that we understood an exam was necessary. This still didn't matter, he said they will not euthanize the cat no matter what. I never thought in a million years a veterinarian would not euthanize a suffering animal that could not benefit from any treatment. Apparently that is CCAH's way of doing things!! A relationship with your veterinarian is important, but not all animals have one established. And to turn away a suffering animal, and not even be willing to examine it and determine for themselves that the animal indeed is suffering and put it out of its misery makes me sick. I just had to come on here and warn people, if your pet is in an unfortunate accident, or is terminally ill and has never been seen at CCAH, dont come here looking for help! They will just turn you and your suffering pet away! Sick people! Guess this place hasn't improved!

I was so disappointed! The staff that works the desk was SO RUDE - I could not begin to tell you! My dog had an emergency and this was the closest, open clinic we could visit. The first visit they misdiagnosed my dog (charging a fee of course). Two days later my dog was still ill - only worse! Took him back again at their request. They gave me a quote.....dog had his emergency surgery.....go to pay the bill and it was more than the quote they gave me. Well I wanted my dog - I payed the fee and asked the RUDE STAFF what the point was of giving me a quote. MORE ABOUT THE MONEY THAN THE PET!!!

Dr. Bonavera had agreed to see my 9 year old rabbit for an itchy ear and painful arthritis. The very first thing that he said when he came into the room "Are you sure this rabbit is 9 years old?" I would have taken it as a compliment if it weren't for his tone of voice. He then started his speech of how rabbits only live 8-10 years. I stated that that is merely a life expectancy, and that they can exceed 10 years with proper veterinary care. I felt like he was already telling me to put the rabbit down (though he was in great health otherwise). He then asked me to put the rabbit down on the slippery floor to watch him hop around and see where the arthritis was. Obviously, the rabbit didn't do his normal hopping around because of the slippery floor, and Dr. Bonavera simply took my word when I said that the arthritis is mainly in the front feet, but is also apparent in the hind legs. Lastly, he asked me what else I brought him in for (though it clearly said in the chart). I said that he's been scratching at his ears a lot lately, though the other 2 rabbits that he lives with doesn't have the same problem. "Well, he's not scratching at his ears now" was his response. Of course a scared rabbit isn't going to be bothered with satisfying an itch...I was so furious at his incompetence that I simply left and haven't been back since.

We were patron of this vet because they were local to us. Serious cons for this facility include the requirement of shots and vaccines for our pets before they would see them. Of course our pets being sick we had to do it, however this is in addition to the extensive and unnecessary testing that they requested to perform. Overall this is a nice facility with a fairly pleasant staff, just be prepared to pay!

This facility is about the money, not the animal.

I have taken my dogs to this clinic, and have always felt like it was going to Jiffy Lube. For just a few dollars more, you can have a multitude of services performed on your pet.

We quit going to this Vet after we took an ill dog that was not eating, or drinking to be checked out. After performing $1200 worth of testing, they could find nothing wrong, and wanted us to take him home for the weekend because they were closing, and did not board over the weekend. The care was so offhand and callous, not to mention ineffective!

We found another vet that evening, who nursed the dog through the illness, and have never returned to Canyon Country Animal Hospital.

An expensive lesson well learned.

I was DEVASTATED today to learn that DVM JJ Bonavera had died this past November from an apparent heart attack. I have known this DVM for over eight years and have nothing but praise for his concern to his patients (animals) and the families that bring them in for care. I read with disbelief the comments from cowards on Yahoo's Business Overview (http://local.yahoo.com/info-20644518-bonavera-juan-dvm-jj-bonavera-association-canyon-country).

Here, I discovered the real people who knew this wonderful man. I know of the lady who describes about her Yorkie being attacked by an Akita and the emergent compassionate care provided by DVM Bonavera. I too had financial difficulty with two dogs who required emergency care and treatment. One of my older dogs I had to euthanize. However, DVM Bonavera absolutely refused to do this until he spent over 30 caring minutes attempting to help me with finances and options. With my younger second dog, he knew (remembered) this dog's name (from prior care) and again reduced his fees over $500 dollars! I have never known any doctor that has done this before and because he has died, I do not believe I will again.

God Bless this Wonderful Man and I will truly miss him and his care for all my dogs!

I first met Dr. B back in 2002 when my sweet Sam went into diabtetic shock and we took him there for treatment. He took care of him and worked with me in payment of my bill. During the next two years we were regulars there due to Sammy's illness and he always took the best care of him. My husband and I became good friends with Dr. B. He is so kind and compassionate and his love for animals is unbelievable. In December 2003 Sammy died and he was there to console us. I know that if anyone needs a vet that they will be taken care of with Dr. B. I now live in Arizona and miss the Animal Hospital as we were spoiled by Dr. B.

Thanks Dr. B for always being there for us

As an animal transport company we have worked with veterinarians all over the United States and most certainly throughout all of Southern California. As a Canyon Country based company we have been working with Dr. Bonavera and the Canyon Country Animal Hospital since they opened and we've never been happier.

Dr. B is a very well educated, thorough and very thoughtful veterinarian and we've worked with him on a very wide variety of animals for our business and he's also our primary vet for our own K-9 kids. Three of our kids are rescues that were badly abused by their previous owners and even the shelters that took them in from the streets did little to help them except to make plans to put them down. Were it not for the dedication and skill of Dr. B, they may have perished long ago but are instead vibrant and healthy and enjoying their lives.

Obviously, we know veterinarians throughout Santa Clarita and beyond and we could take our animals anywhere for care. However, we wouldn't and couldn't bring them to anyone but Dr. Bonavera and the Canyon Country Animal Hospital.

I had never before met nor did I know of Dr. J.J. Bonavera when I rushed my Yorkie into the after-hours vet clinic where he worked 7 years ago. New to Santa Clarita and without a local vet, I became frantic when my tiny dog Max had his throat torn open by a 100+ pound Akita. I consider myself extremely blessed to have found Dr. B that night, as he not only saved Max's life, but has in the years since provided all of my pets with exceptional healthcare. When I learned Dr. B had opened Canyon Country Animal Hospital, my animals and I were proudly amongst his first patients.

Having had many pets all of my life as well as a 15 year-long career in the retail pet industry, I have used several veterinarians. I take great offense to the insinuation that Dr. B is "all about the money" suggesting he puts profits ahead of pets. This is simply NOT the case when it comes to Dr. B & CCAH, and I have personal experience to buttress this bogus accusation:

1) When I have been in dire straits financially, Dr. B has either discounted his services, let me post date a check, sent me a bill or let me make monthly payments. As a lifelong pet owner, I have never had a vet such as this, who puts his patients' care ahead of money. Frankly, it is unheard of for a vet to render services *before* collecting payment.

2) Dr. B has not only *always* returned phone calls I've made to him, but has also several times called on his own to find out how my animals were feeling following a visit. Plus, he often answers my questions over the phone, which saves me an otherwise unneccesary vet visit and exam fee.

3) As others have attested to, Dr. Bonavera is stellar at becoming personally aquainted with his pet and people patients. He never fails to recall the names of my dogs and cats, and he will come into the exam room and sit on the floor with my dogs, stroking them and making them feel comfortable.

4) Not only has Dr. Bonavera stayed past closing to care for my animals, but in two emergency instances he went above and beyond any other vet I've ever known. In both cases CCAH was *closed*, but Dr. B volunteered to come into the clinic to administer care to my dogs. I did not have to go to an unknown vet at a random ER and pay an exorbitant fee.

From vaccinations and spaying to a dislodged eyeball and tumor removal, my pets have been to CCAH for many different types of care. Without exception, they (and I) have been treated compassionately and with the highest of medical standards by Dr. Bonavera.

I've never written an online "review" such as this before, but knowing how important and how difficult it is to find a competent vet, I felt compelled to do so. As an animal lover, I would never recommend a veterinarian to others whom I myself did not trust 100%. Plain and simple, Dr. Bonavera is dedicated, loyal and has successfully kept my dogs and cats happy and healthy!
