We always start up ordering with the same two dishes, whole peking duck with a terrific plum sauce and soup buns always served steaming hot. All the noodles I've tried have been good as have the entrees. You won't be dissappointed! There is a parking lot right down the street on jackson which is very convenient.

This is the best Hunan style chinese food so far I ever had in The Bay Area. I don't think anyone else can beat it. Hunan Home should always rank the BEST in the Bay Area, especially in the Chinatown area. This is the best place in chinatown, Good Food, Good Service, Nice Environment. All my friends from other states would like me to take them to Hunan Home.

I first want to give a shout out to KIM- our server for our visit. What a gem you are!\n\nI had researched chinese food restaurants for my recent visit to San Francisco and saw the raves this one received by citysearch members- so I put it on my definite list of things to do and places to go and boy oh boy- you guys did not steer me wrong! I and my mom, who travelled with me, were fortunate to have timed our visit to the restaurant on the ""down"" time between lunch and dinner. We had the place to ourselves and the server, Kim really showed us personal attention. He even recommended dishes for us to try. Do not pass up the Honey Walnut Prawns. DEEELICIOUS! We also had the prawns in Chili sauce. Delectable! The food was plentiful and conversation with Kim was delightful!\n

The food and service is very good. The shrimp with lobster sauce and the Ma Po Tofu are awesome. This is one of the restaurants we try to make it to whenever we go into the city.

I've been here several times with people from the office. Their meat quality is below average. The beef is fatty, the chicken is rubbery, and the result is little to no digestion all day. Yuck.\nI would recommend Eric's, the Mandarin, and Andy's on Union any day. This place is curiously overrated.

Hunan Home's is not only the best Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, I believe it is the best restaurant of any kind in the City.\n I have the pleasure of eating lunch at Hunan's nearly every Friday --- a personal treat for myself. I've also enjoyed banquets with more than 50 people. No matter the size of the group, the service is always fabulous and the food is incredible.\n My nicest experience was a dinner that I gave for my mother and about 15 guests. James and his staff treated my mother like a queen. The service was perfect. The food was a culinary delight.\n One last thing. I highly recommend the Honey Walnut Prawns. One bite and you're in heaven!

Hunan Home is basically a slightly above average Hunan styled Chinese restaurant located in Chinatown taking advantage of the hype that surrounds it. How the place ever got the hype is the mystery to me.\n\nThe food is good, but definitely not much better than your favorite Hunan styled Chinese restaurant back home. Portions are not particularly large and prices are not cheap. I honestly didn't see the reason for the hype.

We have dining at Hunan Homes for the past 11 years. We feel like family around them. We are very picky eaters and found thier entrees to be the best. Thier service is excellent (Thier Mama with a big smile), food is superb (especially Sizzling Bean curd) is superb, cleanliness is really wonderful(condiment bottles not stcky). They do not talk over your food. All in all this is our favorite restaturant

Hunan Home's was recommended by my hotel and was exactly what I was looking for. I was seated promptly. The wait staff was attentive and helped explain dishes and made recommendations. The food was very good. I had the prawns in black bean sauce and the spring rolls. Both came out very quickly. Good selection of food especially Hunan Style. Atmosphere kind of plain, but clean. You can't go wrong at Hunan Home's. Good for single, couples and small groups. Tea included, rice extra. Not expensive. Major Credit Cards accepted.

I have been searching for a solid, high quality chinese restaurant in China Town - and this is it. I have had a variety of menu items and each thing has been consistently great. The meat and seafood are fresh and of good quality (unlike many restaurants in China Town). The spices and flavors are unique in that they are not masked by heavy bland sauces. The servers are attentive and friendly and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a high quality experience in China Town.

We go to Hunan Home's at least once a month, sometimes once a week! Love the food--no grease; great flavors. Love the fish tank (check out the baby longhorn cowfish!). Love the kitschy Chinese ambience, complete with tinkly Chinese muazk. Don't change a thing! This is the place we take Midwestern family members to make them understand Chinese food isn't all about frozen wontons and microwaved potstickers served in an all U Can Eat Buffet...and the place we go when we have a large group of friends and want to eat good but cheap.

My husband bought me there and I liked it. I recommended to my friends for a lunch group meeting. Everybody liked it and I felt so proud. The price is inexpensive. We couldn't believe our bill at the first time. Now it's a place we meet often for lunch. Their lunch special is really a good deal.

I logged on to Citysearch to find a Chinese restaurant. I read some reviews of Hunan Home and thought I would give it a shot... thank you for the recommendation! It was delicious! Usually when I order spicy Chinese food, it's greasy because of the hot oil they use... this was perfect! I highly recommend giving this a shot. Portions were perfect and food was great! Although the decor needs a little help... it's good eats!

First of all I'm Chinese and I need not to look at any reviews as pointers to restaurants. Many of the places that have garnered good reviews are actually crap. My family has been dining out here at Hunan's Home for over 15 years. The service has always been courteous and quick. This place has one of the best pot stickers (6 per order) and hot&sour soup served in town. For main entrees, try *Sizzling Prawns with Special Hunan Sauce* in a sizzling platter; *Hunan Twice-Cooked Pork with Cabbage*; *Whole Chicken with Ginger and Green Onions*. Those who don't savor spicy food should like *Sizzling Rice Soup*. The restaurant does make dishes less spicy or not spicy at all.

This place rocks! Awesome service, none of the typical big city attitude, waitstaff all worked together to make everything go smothly, very very friendly, cozy atmosphere. We showed up late and even at the end of the night the place was spotless. Food was OUTSTANDING and was the least expensive meal we had in the city over a three day weekend!

Have been dining at this restaurant for over 10 years -- good place to bring out of town guests, particularly those not accustomed to Chinese food. Service is always good and prices are reasonable. I had lunch with visiting relatives at Hunan Home and was pleasantly surprised. It's good food on Formica tabletops. My relatives don't eat pork or shellfish, so we limited our choices to a deep-fried bean curd appetizer and three styles of chicken. The bean curd was a little bland (the crust didn't absorb the dipping sauce) but the chicken dishes were excellent. The service was fast and friendly.

We came here based on the rave reviews. Boy what a mistake! Service and atmosphere were good, but I'd trade them in any day for great food. We tried (can't remember exact names) spicy eggplant, spicy garlic chicken, beef w/ Chinese broccoli, mixed meat chow mein, and wor wonton soup. The entrees seemed re-heated, not cooked-to-order, and compromised to appeal to the Panda Express crowd. $9.75 wonton soup wasn't worth it. With so many great Asian restaurants in the Bay Area and LA County, this falls way short.

I had lunch at Hunan Home yesterday for the first time, and it was a fantastic experience. Owner, James, was welcoming and cheery, obviously taking pride in his popular establishment. Can't go wrong with this one! Among our favs on the menu: Hot and Sour Soup, Mushu, Hunan Chicken, Fried prawns with walnuts, sizzling beef hot plate, snow pea leaves (seasonal).

This was my first time at this restaurant, but my group had a wonderful time. The food was excellent, as well as the rice wine, and we had great service. I'd recommend it to anyone, and will try the Los Altos location soon!

Hunan Home has the best hot and sour soup I've had anywhere! It is consistently better than any other restaurant around.\n\nI find that the lunch dishes at Hunan Home are much more flavorful than other restaurants too. It's not the spiciest around, but definitely the most flavorful. \n\n
