We highly recommend this restaurant. The food was excellent and plentiful. The server was cheerful, humorous and entertaining. We will come back any time we're in the area.

As a caterer and chef I can honestly say that this is one of my all time favorite restaurants. The owners greet you like long last family everytime you come in, giving you the highest degree of friendly personal attention, even if it has been months since you have been in. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, every different is different and unique. Not sure what to order, ask for James or one of his family, tell them what you like and how hungry you are, and let them do the ordering for you. You will have one of the best meals of your life.\n\n

Pros: great service, personable staff, wonderful food

This is a restaurant where I eat several times a week and never tire of either the food or the service. They are consistently speedy at lunch, understanding most people are on short lunch hours. At dinner, the service is still prompt, but less rushed, and the atmosphere is ""nicer"" (cloth napkins and such). Either way, the food is extremely good and the prices quite reasonable.

One of my middle school friends who have moved to L.A. in 1984 would actually fly to S.F. to meet me at Hunan Home for one meal and fly back on the same afternoon. How crazy is that??? He is planning another day trip in August....and guess where we are going to meet at

This is the best resturant so far in my life. Never have those service and food can find in other resturant in China Town. Every time when I visit San Francisco, that is the first place I have to visited.

The orange peel beef is the best! And the ""String beans ala Hunan."" And while you're at it, try the succulent home-style bread, but have it steamed so you can feel extra-healthy.

Great food...and consistently good service. A great place to bring friends and family. The honey walnut prawns are soooo fine and the potstickers melt in your mouth. Go for the spicy eggplant or snowpea leaves wth garlic. We've never had even a mediocre meal at this restaurant.

Hunan Home has become as much of a San Francisco tradition as Pier 39, The Presidio, Golden Gate Park, and ""the bridge"".\n\nI never give family or friends the tour of San Francisco without including a trip to Hunan Home in Chinatown. It features exceptional food -- the very\nbest Prawns in Honey & Walnut, incredible Sizzling Eel, awesome Orange Chicken. The service is very fast-paced, yet not rushed, friendly and attentive. \n\nHunan Home is The Best Chinese Restaurant in the entire Bay area -- bar none!

My favorite Chinese restaurant. Great food, service and value (especially on the daily lunch specials). It's no wonder I go there at least once a week, sometimes more. I've already been there twice this week and it's only Tuesday.

I have been eating at Hunan Home for over 15 years. This restaurant has an exceedingly high standard of friendliness and service set by Mr Cy Yuan (rest his soul). This standard is honored by James Yuan and his entire family and staff. The food also is consistently excellent. This restaurant is one of the true gems in Chinatown. There are those who say all the good restaurants have moved to the avenues and to other bay area locations. The those I say ""Try Hunan Home's""\n\nAlso of note: the Yo Nan Tarng Mien (Beef Stew Soup Noodle) is the best this side of the Pacific!!\n\nStephen Hewitt

As an Airline Captain, I eat 'out' far more often than I eat a home. Lunch at Hunan Homes has been a once or twice weekly experience for me for the last 5 years or so, Can I call it the Worlds best Chinese Eatery (!?)..I Have a few absolute favourites ( Honey Walnut Prawns, Beef with Orange Peel, and various 'Soup Noodles', and of course, the perfect potstickers) but suffice to say, ALL his dishes are excellent. Freshness & Cleanliness obviously top James & Lillians list of priorities, and the simple decor of the restaurant is a very suitable venue for anything from a quick lunch, to a family dinner. Service is efficient, a plus for work-force types with limited time, but one never feels 'rushed'. I just left Hunan's a few hours ago (lunchtime)....and regret that since duty calls later today, I can't get back for dinner too!!

We have been eating at James' restaurant for many years. We frequently eat Chinese, often experimenting and trying new restaurants. Our goal is to find a restaurant better than the last. We ALWAYS come back to see James and his superb waitstaff. Of course, we come for the food, but it also happens to be a very clean, very traditional, very friendly and the food is very fresh. Within the last year they started validated parking. There's no excuse to not drive anymore!!! Good luck to you. With warmest regards, Marc and Margi (from SF)

With so many places to eat, its sometimes hard to find the right one. I would highly recommend Hunan Home's for the tasty dishes, friendly service, extra seating in back, good prices, and clean area.
