This museum is housed in a gorgeous building in Exposition Park. They have a sizable collection in their regular exhibits and frequently alter their special exhibits to make repeat attendees entertained.

The childrens' area is remarkable. They have a two story room the size of a basketball court filled with interactive exhibits and toys that kids can touch and enjoy. Their friendly staff also hosts frequent activities (animal encounters, etc.) that children can enjoy.

Memberships are very reasonably priced. The place is awash with kids on the weekends. You could spend a day there, or use it as a point of departure for the many other museums in Exposition Park.

PROS: Excellent facility. Kid friendly.
CONS: none.

This museum was a bit of a disappointment but it has its good points. Overall the museum appeared to be quite neglected. A lot of the permanent exhibits seem to be in various states of disrepair. The gems and minerals specimens are quite amazing and this is one of the museum's strengths. The dinosaur areas are crowded and small. The whole museum feels dated and cramped. Compared to other Natural History museums this one pales in comparison, but for young children it could still be a good source of learning.

the building is an explosion of Spanish architecture and hosts exhibits of dinosaur bones and fossils and skeletons, rare sharks plus a gem collection that is the pearl of this great museum.

If the kids think history is great and exciting, so do I. Hey, I think the dinosaur skeletons are pretty cool myself. They look forward to the butterfly pavillion every year - and unlike they first thought - the butterflies are not beautifully preserved in a glass case, but free-fluttering in a pavillion on the museum's lawn.

As for price, can Disneyland beat a FULL year of learning, art and fun for a family of five for only $48 (the price I paid)? Hardly! Try just getting one Disney ticket for that price. The Natural History Museum membership is definitely worth more than the price they charge for an annual membership. Don't forget, they have family fun days and great rotating exhibitions too!
