Parras Middle school made my daughter hate school. She loved school until she realized that the teachers don't care and the administration cares less. Let me rephrase that, they do care about the dress code, public relations and their paycheck. But about the kids in the school that's a different story. They bully their kids at that school and the teachers lie. I wrote emails to teachers on several different occasions and was told lies about my students. The students are accused of things they did not do on a regular basis by some teachers. Their are a few teachers that are sarcastic with the kids, going to the level of pointing out that a overweight child in class must have enjoyed her hamburger, fries and milkshake over weekend and everyone laughed at the student. My daughter was called an "Underachiever" repeatedly by this same teacher. Isn't that inspiring? The teachers do not want parents involved. I went to school one day to get my daughters homework since she was home sick. I was lectured by Donna at front office and a few teachers that I should call ahead and get notes sent to office. I thought I was doing them a favor and being a good parent. Apparently not? And if you miss a day at that school you get way behind because they give a ton of homework.
Don't let me start about Nygren he is the worst principal I have ever experienced in my life. He is immature, inexperienced in working with teenagers, socially inept, condescending to parents and he lies about students that he does not like or does not like their parents. He slandered my daughter in his office with witnesses because I had complained about a problem on his campus that he does not want to leak out to community. He cares about what makes him look good and what is going to better his career. He is not there for the kids! It may not come as a surprise to you but it did for me. I must be naive but I thought prinicipals were advocates for our children and safe under their care. I was wrong and hurt to find out the truth first hand, when I was told to my face that he didn't care what my daughter did or didn't do as long as it wasn't on his campus. Good luck at this school and please if you have had any of the above problems, report it to school district. If all of us stay quiet, nothing will change.

This is a school that is run by the teachers, for the benefit of the teachers. It's a case of union run amok. They dominate the kids and parents and there's no way to influence the school. THe principal is a pawn of the teachers. In some cases, the teachers actually get MAD when the parents contact them. It's sad.

I LOVED going to Parras! Academically the teachers were great and the selection of classes were brilliant. Technologically Parras is very much superior to the neighboring Adams middle school. With a campus wide student run news program, techers could switch their tv's on to channel XX ( its been a while so i don't recall exactly) and view student presidents announcing the weekly activities every monday morning.

Moreover, the location makes socializing a breeze. Nearby is the Redondo Pier and Rivalution, an Internet Cafe.
