I wanted to give a local business $ and what I got in return was a lack of integrity. I wanted wider tires on my 74 Ford Maverick and asked if they were available with whitewall. Fred said not in the size that I wanted. I saw a few cars

Took my car in for a flat tire problem.
They fixed it for around $40 I think.
No problems and they'd parked my car in a good spot after finishing, so I didn't have to find street parking after I got it back.

I've taken all my cars there for years, and they have always been honest and timely. They are always accommodating to my schedule and they do great work....since I live in Noe Valley its great to have them here. They have never misquoted me...if there is a change in the estimate they always call and explain.

I used to recommend this place to everyone. However, now after feeling completely taken I will tell everyone to stay away! I needed a brake job on my mini. I already knew from the dealership that I needed front and back brake pads and front rotors. The dealership quoted me a high price. It actually turned out to be less than what Noe auto works ended up costing me! I called Noe Valley Auto works, told them exactly what I needed.

I got a quote of $475 total for everything. They said even if they had to replace the rear rotors, it wouldn't be over $475. Sounded great! $500 less than the dealership. Then, I get the call to come get the car.....and only the front was done and they were asking me if I wanted the rear brake pads worked on as well? What the hell? I had already told them to do the front and rear and the front rotors.

Oh, but the price quoted above now only covers the front job. The back will be an extra $475. I discussed this with Pablo who had given me the quote last week. At first, he said he was not the person I talked to about the quote, then suddenly he remembered he was, and he never told me the brake job would only cost $475. To make a long story short, I told them to stop working on my car. I am going somewhere else for the rear pads. I have since read other reviews about this place and have found similar experiences. DO NOT GO THERE!

Do yourself a favor and read about my experience there -- THEN decide if this is the kind of place where you want to do business.

I had a small puncture in my new tire caused by a screw. I've been driving for over 20 years and have had many similar punctures during that time. I've had those fixed by different shops (in Boston, New York, LA, and SF), and they *all* fixed the tire using a plug. I've never had a problem with any of those repairs -- the fix has always lasted for the life of the tire, and they've never leaked air.

So I went to Noe Valley Auto Works, only because it's in my neighborhood. One of their mechanics explained that they don't perform tire *plug* repairs, because those are only temporary, and instead offered to patch the tire from the inside, a more time consuming and costly repair. This was news to me, and due to the nature of the puncture (small and perpendicular to the tire surface), I was confident that a plug was all I needed, so the mechanic referred me to a gas station down the street.

I went to that station, and they also do not do plug repairs, so I decided to go *back* to Noe Valley Auto Works (since they're closer to home) and get the *patch* repair. Upon returning, NO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES after I'd left, the shop OWNER told me that now they're "too busy" to take me. This was not a fix-while-you-wait repair -- I would have had to leave the tire there for the day anyway, and it was only 8:30am -- and suddenly they don't have 10 free minutes during the entire day? It was COMPLETELY OBVIOUS that they were NOT too busy -- he just didn't want to service my car because I'd briefly decided to go somewhere else. Remember, I went to that other place at the recommendation of HIS mechanic, because I wanted a service that Noe Valley Auto Works does NOT offer -- that hardly should be taken as an insult, but for some strange reason this guy had a major chip on his shoulder. No other cars had entered the shop in the 5 minutes I'd been gone, and when I asked him "how come you could take me 5 minutes ago", he just said "that was 5 minutes ago", with major attitude in his voice.

The owner's name is RICHARD -- quite an appropriate name, considering how his nickname aptly describes his attitude. He acted just like the soup Nazi on Seinfeld, except this is real life, and proprietors should pay consequences for this type of behavior. Given that he's the owner, I'm guessing that if the shop loses business, it impacts him more than anyone, since the mechanics are likely on an hourly wage. So, DO NOT GIVE THIS SHOP YOUR BUSINESS, and make Richard pay the price for his condescending, unprofessional attitude.

I'll bet that if i needed an *expensive* repair, he wouldn't have turned me away, because that would have a larger profit margin than a tire repair. But should he have right to pick and choose who he services, for no valid reason, other than he's a miserable excuse for a man?

Based on how he treated me, I'm guessing he treats his employees like crap, which over time turns into them being unhappy, which in turn means they're not as motivated to perform quality service. I will NEVER bring my car there again -- I'd rather drive TWICE as far and pay DOUBLE -- no, that is not an exaggeration.

It's your car, your money, and your decision -- if you knew me, you'd know that my assessment of this situation is not embellished whatsoever, and you'd follow my advice.

They only gave me a quote to check the brakes when I brought my 4WD vehicle in to get new brakes. They then billed me $200 more that the final quote they gave me over the phone. Since I didn't have a written estimate it was their word against mine. The brake job cost 98 cents shy of $1000! I later got a quote from a dealer -- $782.

I used them when I lived in Noe Valley. They were always upfront about what the cost were going to be. Sometime I felt it was really expensive, but the service really made me keep going back. Other times I felt they gave me a HUGE break on the price, but maybee that was because of the service and the fact that I was expecting to pay more. If you want a detail list of what is going on with your car and an honest mechanic - GO HERE>

This place is about average compared to other shops in the area. I went to Noe Valley last year when my Accord was having issues braking without sputtering. It took them a couple of days but they fixed my car. The cost was about average when compared to the estimates that I got from a couple of other body shops. I decided to goto Noe Valley because I had heard of their great service. While they were nice, the service was the same as what I've gotten at other body shops and I wouldn't call it exceptional.

Overall, I wasn't super impressed like some of the other reviewers, but I would go there again.

NVAW is a great place to go for minor or major repairs. They provide great service and look at customers than more than just their cars but all their needs. Very friendly staff and great management. Nothing to complain about. A+

Oh, I miss the guys at Noe Valley Auto Works. (I moved away so I can't frequent them anymore.) They go above and beyond what is called for. I had an older car, and they didn't look down on it. They kept it humming. Usually things were just routine, but if there ever was a gnarly problem, they didn't quit until they figured it out. They stand by their work. They always look for the best deals on the best parts, and they get the jobs done without delays. They also wash cars after they service them. Plus, if you don't live too far away, and they can fit it into their schedule, they'll deliver the car back to your door.

Noe Valley Auto Works gives great repair! The guys working there (primarily you deal with Rich or Fred) are terrific and very upfront about what is going on with your car. As a woman who has very little knowledge about cars, this is a huge piece of why I go to this little shop in Noe Valley. They explain things to me with patience and good humor and make sound recommendations for me and my situation.

Their shop rate is in the range of normal for shops in this area, ($90/hour), but the service and respect is much better.
