Oh lord, if I was a billionaire I would have gone crazy at Paxton Gate. They have so many amazing animal specimens, animals skulls, and really awesome marine specimens. I know that many sound scary, but please don't misunderstand. The store is actually geared more towards gifts I would say, and I'm sure anyone could find a gift for someone here. The items in the store can range in prices, from a buck 50 for some cute pins to hundreds of dollars for exquisite animal specimens and jewelry made by local artists. Definitely a must see if in San Francisco.

This store is full of strange and exotic curiosities. It's full of taxidermy (there's a stuffed lion in the window), which may be a turn off for some, but they also have a huge selection of exotic plants, including many carniverous ones. You know, venus fly traps and the like. It's truly unique and well worth visiting, and makes perfect gifts for those into something a little out of the ordinary.

This place is so much more than a flower store, and I was extremely impressed by the atompshere. Carnivorousu plants, dried butterflies, and more, exotic insects, you could find anything you wanted at this place.

What's amazing is the atmosphere at this place. You really feel like you are taking an adventure when you step foot here. It is highly recommended.

PROS: Atmosphere, Carnivorous Plants
CONS: Location

On an oddball stretch of Valencia Street, this store makes a great neighbor to Dave Egger's Pirate Shoppe next door at 826 Valencia. Paxton Gate is hard to describe, just consider it a retail adventure. While not quite an antique shop or garden store, the items in there might be loosely associated with those pastimes. Carnivorous plants tickle your fancy or perhaps beautiful dried butterlies and beastly beetles? The store features some normal gift items like wind chimes, and christmas ornaments but lotsa other ephemera as well, including skulls and various taxidermied critters ranging from cats to exotic insects.
