Okay, I never write reviews. I rarely have the time. But I HAD to write a review for Ruth's Chris tonight. We went there for an early dinner since it was booked solid the night before the Superbowl. OK, I'm in love with the Chef who made my Lamb chops. AMAZING!!!! The best I've ever had--and I've had a lot in some of the best restaurants in the world. The service was impeccable. We had two birthdays at our table and they did such a classy little dessert tray for both with a single candle. Nicely done. But to top it off...My husband is from Wisconsin, a GB Packer fan since birth and right next to us was a table of Packers!! He schmoozed with them, got pictures with them and our son. All around an incredible night. Thanks Ruth's Chris. It was unforgettable.

I think Ruth Chris' works well if you're going as a small group but they're not on top of things for bigger groups. I have been on a date with just another person and had excellent service and the food as always is great! \nI did experience a sort of slow, irritated wait person when we were a party of six. This time the food came out a bit slow and one person waited for an unusually long wait while the rest of us just sat trying to be polite and wait for the last dish to show up. This I thought was sort of uncomfortable for the one person as he said to start and don't wait for him. I still felt bad when he got his food after we waited for his to come out any minute.\nOtherwise the food was excellent.

Went to Ruth's Chris and was very disappointed. Cocktails great, service great, steak not so good. Spent $310 for four but my filet was sufficiently tough that I thought I was at the Golden Corral. Will not return because if they cannot do good steak, all the other things are irrelevant.

Over $200 bill for 3 people at Thanksgiving. The servers forgot over vegetables. We waited for over thirty minutes to order desert AFTER we had finished eating, and then waited another 30 minutes to get a bill. The service wsa horrible. But not as bad as the $50 rubber lobster. I was so disapointted, but they claimed "full tables/Thanksgiving" and I paid full price hmmmm?

Good Lord, what a steak, and the service is wonderful!!! Bread pudding melts in your mouth absolutely fantastic! We started with the lobster bisque and stuffed mushrooms. The flavor was dead on. Yum! Our ribeyes were huge and full of butter! Our waitress made us feel like we were the only ones there. It was our anniversary. They had heart confetti put out on our table and made the experience so special. We ate at the dallas location

Although I was never really a ""steak"" person, DH and I decided to try Ruth's Chris because he loves steak and what better way to try to convert me than by taking me to a restaurant known for their excellent steaks?\n\nThank you, Ruth's Chris, your Petite Filet made me appreciate red meat like I never have before! :) We've been eating at Ruth's Chris several times a year since then and our favorite side dish is the sweet potato casserole...deLISH! The Caesar Salad is very good, but we both prefer the Ruth's Chop Salad.

We had 7pm reservations to celebrate an anniversary. The host had an attitude and told us we would have to wait 15 minutes. After 35 minutes, we asked about our table to a different host who told us we had been seated already. I told him that wa impossible since I was standing in front of him. He apologized and said we would have the next table available. We left and went to Harris' Steakhouse one block down (much better choice!). HPR was crowded and alot of people were waiting and it was very noisy as well. Glad we left.

Hands down the best steak I've ever had. They have a great selection of meats to choose from. Sides are extra but they are worth it. Come on an empty stomach because the portions are huge but the steaks melt in your mouth.

I wanted to go some place special for my birthday so I picked Ruth Chris. I had a memorable meal here about 8 years ago. This time it was memorable for the wrong reasons. First of all..when did the menu go from ""expensive"" to ""house payment"". Seriously. If you're ordering ala carte, be prepared to splurge. I do need to say our waitress was absolutely amazing but here is the problem..we both had to send our steaks back. Mine, which I ordered medium, was almost raw and my partners, which he ordered medium well was a piece of meat that had died twice. It was a bit odd too, that when we sent back the second steak, some guy we hadn't seen brought it back. As if to say, hey deal with me if you have a third complaint. Wierd. Hey, everyone should know by now what a medium and medium well steak looks like..and it wasn't a busy night. Cook the steak right the first time, we're talking about a $65 piece of meat. So, we won't be going back there for steak. The place is beautiful and comfortable but..ehhhh.

I have been here a few times but most recently I took my wife for our wedding anniversary. They took VERY good care of us. I had no problems with the reservation and when we arrived they had a personalized greeting card. The food was amazing as always and the service is exceptional. I have no problem paying top dollar for excellent service and great food.

i've been to all the steakhouses in the city and ruth chris is still by far the best. i don't care if it's a chain, the food is good and so is the service. anything drenched in butter flashed broiled and a glass wine to wash it down with is a.o.k.

The food wasn't bad, but definitely not worth the price! My steak was burnt on the sides, which was not very appetizing, and the butter on top just made everything greasy without adding any flavor.\r\nI was also tricked with the water--they asked me if I wanted Pellegrino, and at the end of the night I realized I was charged $9!!!\r\nI ordered a rib eye that cost about $40. My husband ordered the bone-in rib eye. We asked for medium well, with just a little bit of pink, but the inside was pretty rare, although the outside was charred on the sides.\r\nI also thought it was weak that the steak comes ala carte with no sides when you have to spend so much on the meat. But the sides were actually worth their price, I think, while the steak was not. I enjoyed the sides more than the steak.\r\nThe only thing I thought was great was the service. The waitress was very professional, quick and knowledgeable. That's the only thing that made the evening somewhat pleasureable. The food wasn't bad, but it is definitely not worth the price. I highly don't recommend it.

I've been to House of Prime Rib, Morton's, Watergate, and now finally Ruth's Chris. The experience was disappointing. The atmosphere was dead and the food did not live up to par. Everything is ala carte and expensive. Expensive is fine if the quality reflects so, but it sure didn't taste like a $45 steak. My medium rare steak tasted no better than the one I ate at the Outback. It was just dry and hard to swallow. I didn't find the sizzling butter on my plate too entertaining. The high temperature of the plate combined with the butter cooked the steak more than what I wanted. The shrimp appetizer is $12 for 5 pieces and this is for regular size shrimp. A plain baked potato is $10 and the wine list is where they make the big bucks. A bottle of wine that you can get at the corner store for $10 cost more than a steak at this place. Don't waste your time with the caramel pie because it tasted ultra sweet. Brace yourself because the price tag is steep. So far, nothing has topped my experience at the House of Prime Rib. Now that's what I call a mouth watering, melts in your mouth steak.

Went for a birthday celebration in August. Had reservations but the table was not available when we arrived and we had to sit around the bar for about a half hour. \r\n\r\nOnce seated we were given appetizers and dessert (for birthday) on the house as an apology. The pecan squash appetizer was practically suited for the dessert menu it was so sweet and delicious! Steak was very good but not as good as Harris'. Overall a good steakhouse, I'd go again but would prefer to go to another if in San Francisco.

Ruth's Chris is a nice place to go but if you just want to go for the food, I suggest you going elsewhere. Their food is just average, something you can make at home. All I taste is mainly butter. The garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic taste, only butter. The food is good but not worth about $200 for 2. Like I said, for that price, you can get better and more food somewhere else. I also felt tricked because of the water. A waiter asked if we either want sparkling water or bottled water. We picked bottled water and when the bill came, that bottle of water was $8 (if I remembered right). I just assumed that is how Ruth's Chris serve water. Do not make the same mistake people. Another thing, when I made the reservations, they asked me if it was for a birthday, anniversary, etc. I told them that it was for a birthday but they didn't do anything special for us. Since they asked, I expected them to have a little something for the birthday guests but nothing. Everything's worth a try but I just hope that you won't regret it like how I do.

The food here is simple yet delicious. The steak was so juicy and buttery...and the service was exceptional. They were not about to let your glass go empty.\r\n\r\nThe food is pricey, it was about $350 for four of us (not including wine), but it is a steakhouse so it is expected.\r\n\r\nOh, and althought I am not a fan of bread pudding, I am now. You have to try it. It is AMAZING!

I have to say, this may be one of the finest dining experiences ever. I'd been to the Ruth's Chris in New Orleans some years ago, and have had my fair share of fine steaks in my day, but what made an impression on me, almost more than the food, was the service. What a difference good service makes! I may not even need to mention the food--it's incredible. The gumbo was delicious, the salads crispy and tasty, the bread hot and soft, the lobster succulent, and the beef--oh, the filet mignon!! But you already know the food is exceptional--let me get back to the service. Our waiter, and the entire staff, had us completely satisfied. His drink selections were right on, and he was able to perfectly balance catering to our occasional neediness, and not being overzealous with his presence. Absolutely wonderful dining experience!!

The food and steak here is good, but not great. The only thing that stands out is there service, ambiance, oh and the prices. It is very expensive here, you're mainly paying for service and ambiance. I personally go to restaurants for the food, and not for the service. But if you got the money and you don't mind spending about $50 a person for a special occasion, go try it out.

Ever just want a fat steak? Its not cheap, but the steak is above par and the side dishes are amazing. I recommend the sweet potato casserole (with brown sugar and pecan crust!) and the grilled tomatoes. I may get all side dishes the next time I visit!

Once you get to your table the service is stellar, but the place is packed and even with a reservation (don't bother without one) you may have to wait. A mojito at the bar will help cool your jets - its not bad.

Skip dessert, I wasn't impressed. (Or order more sweet potatoes!) And valet park.

PROS: Steaks, side dishes, table service
CONS: Crowded, a little pricey, dessert not worth your time

I live in San Francisco, and I've been one time. I doubt that I will return. It wasn't a bad experience. The steaks were fine, but for the prices they charge, it wasn't worth it. The ala carte rib eye for $34.00 was only slightly better than a $18-20 ""lesser chain"" full course meal. The sides were large, but the waiter did tell us in advance. The overall service was adaquate, but a little forced and insincere.

The time before the salad and the entre arrive within minutes of each other. I chalked it up to an new wait person. The last time we had to wait 15 beyond our reservation time to be seated in an empty dining room where we had to wait another 10 minutes before I had to interupt a huddle of 4 wait staff to order our drinks. After the drink arrived and dinner order taken we had to wait another 10 minutes after the waiter said he would send over the salads. Poor management is the only excuse. I'll return to Harris's.

Went to dinner after the opera. There were four in our party. Were set down quickly and was not given choice of booth or table, many available. Service was good, for the price i paid 160.00 for two with only water, and coffee to drink. My wife cooks a better steak at home. Was not impressed with there tough steaks, and fatty. Everything ala carte but 10.00 for side dishes get real. \nWill not go back again and WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS (If you want to keep them) VERY OVERATED!!\nI do alot of dining out.

The food itself was great, but service and ambiance were awful. Several of us complained about the obnoxious businessmen next to us, but the restaurant did nothing. Greeter had attitude. We had to flag down our waiter for service, water, etc. Food took forever to arrive. For $180+ for 2 people, I was very disappointed. Never going back.

For those of you who continue to compare RC to Outback Steakhouse (OS), please, get a clue. If ANYONE considers that comparison, it's clear you don't know steaks (or food). I want to an OS once: when I stuck in a no-name city close to the airport. God-awful food. Period.\n\nRC San Francisco is not as good as RC Palm Springs or RC Chicago. I don't know if they use frozen beef in SF, but I think the steaks are average. Service on our visiting night was fine so no complaints there. The steak looked great, cooked just right (med-rare), but it was somewhat flavorless. As for the price, who cares? If you want Safeway or Albertson's steaks, then you need to go to Outback.

Service was awkward, inept, and rude. The steaks\nwere mediocre, at best. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, hoping for a special celebration for him. A mutual friend had called ahead and ordered a very special cabernet to be sent to our table, only the waiter brought a bottle of champagne instead. We were surprised to get champagne as neither of us drinks it- but unfortunately didnt discover the mistake until days later. The food was disappointing, although the steaks- we had a new york and filet- were at least cooked right. Definately will not be back, and Im sorry my boyfriends birthday dinner was such a flop.

By far the most dynamic and best restaurant in the Bay area. Sizzling juicy steaks and a varied menu. I highly recommend accompanying the Porter House for two with asparagus, augratin potatoes and the steak house salad. Throw in a bottle of Beringer White Zinfandal and you have a meal fit for a King and Queen! Great location, the most dedicated staff and a great atmosphere.

We were pleasantly surprised that the inside of the restaurant was so nice and comfortable. The staff was very attentive. The food was fabulous from the Lobster Bisque to the Steak and Lobster, and oh the Creamed Spinach was absolutely wonderful. Get there early for parking!!

I've eaten at Ruth's Chris many times, since I live up the street from it. True, it is pricey, and I probably wouldn't go with a group larger than 6 unless I was prepared to spend several hundred dollars, but dinner for two with drinks is about $100, and I always enjoy it. My steak is always prepared as I ask for it--never over or undercooked. The sides are large, so share! I love their gin and tonics...a perfect pre-dinner drink. The ambience is intimate and romantic, so it's a good place for a date--if you want lots and lots of food! Perhaps a better place to go when you're in need of comfort food, and can go home and collaps after being throughly stuffed.

This is an expensive national chain, serving USDA Prime Grade Aged Steaks.\n\nFor you people not well travelled, this sucessful Company is from New Orleans and serves ala carte items, which can make this an expensive dinner.\n\nIf you do not like expensive steaks house, stay home or go to Outbacks for non-USDA Prime Grade Steaks!!!

This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in San Francisco. The staff was friendly, they seated us before our reservation and the food was amazing. I hihgly recommend the petite filet and shrimp. The filet is a generous 'petite', you won't be disappointed. AWESOME overall experience!

The restaurant is one with impeccable service and the steak is to die for. The cost to visit this place is well worth it and should be understood since it is a 5 STAR Steakhouse. The Filet cooked medium is my favorite and be aware that sides are for 2 to 3 people. I have been to 5 different locations and have received superior service each time. Food is guaranteed to be sizzling hot. If you are just looking for over-priced, medium grade steak I suggest Black Angus or Outbacks. Not to mention the service you'll receive there either.

I personally think the steak here is consistently good as it serves only the best U.S.D.A. prime beef and other premium cuts. Ruth's Chris may be a chain, but you won't feel connected to anything while you're there except that primal urge of yours to eat steak.

For the $ we paid, we expected a memorable experience here...DID NOT GET IT! waiter was incredibly rude and pushy for us to get more wine, more side dishes, and dessert. felt very pressured and uncomfortable, maybe b/c we look young for our age! ordered a medium rare filet mignon and received a tiny, burnt piece of sizzling beef. so so so disappointing...NEVER AGAIN

I abhor chains and admit that Ruth's has a bit of a tourist-trap-chain feel to it. Still, it is hands down the BEST bovine banquet to be had in this fine city. If you're out to impress the boss, go to Morton's. If you want to impress your tastebuds, go to Ruth's!

this restaurant is suitable for those with a lack of taste. For nearly fifty dollars, you get a sizzler quality steak and not much else. For less than half the price, and a much better steak, visit an outback near you.

I have been told this was the best steak house by a lot of people so that was a good reason to try it. The place was nice and the service was good but the price for the steaks made my expectation very high. Yes it was a good steak but it never really got me into heaven maybe because it was soaking in butter. The side orders were terrible when you are use to the fine San Francisco cuisine and extremely greasy. My advice - go to Boulevard and hear the angles sing.

I don't think cooking the steak in butter really added anything to the meal but it didn't distract either. The side dishes were AMAZING and the potatos au gratin was the best I have ever had. Even though we had reservations we had to sit for almost 20 min waiting for a table. There were several large loud groups surrounding us so the place was not as romantic as it could have been. The waitstaff was very attentive though.

As usual, their meat is a cut above the normal place and the service well trained. I find they are extremely good at cooking steaks to order (this isn't consistant at many local steak houses), especially their filet mignon.
