Best massages I've ever had - let alone in San Francisco. The people that work here are exceptional human beings and make customer service a key reason why so many people keep coming back. They gave my company a great corporate discount and I was instantly hooked - I've also referred numerous people and even handed out their business cards. The practitioners are very educated and they are great listeners - with their ears and their hands! Don't miss out on such a wonderful place! I highly recommend seeing Rodney - he's incredible at what he does! Tim also comes highly recommended by coworkers and friends. Enjoy!

I love this place! The staff know how to fix every ache and pain. I often go here after I have tweaked something at acrobat class and any pain magically goes away! The staff is all wonderful and very comfortable to work with.

Psoas gives the best massage I have ever had anywhere and I've had quick a few. The owners of Psoas are professional, highly skilled and passionate about their work. They are also very friendly. I have been going to Psaos 3 -4 times a month for almost a year. Jenny was able to loosen my frozen shoulder and give me pain free movement for the first time in 15 years. I highly recommend Psoas every chance I get. They are the best - hands down!!

Scott and Tim are both musicians, so they "get it." I recently started working with Tim, who is unraveling some decades-old injuries. As a result, I'm more fit to play every day.

I went to see both Scott and Jenny and either way received massages that changed my week. I used to be a strong athlete but have suffered at the hands of injuries and at 29 found myself in a lot of pain daily. Jenny and Scott did wonders for that and actually loosened up muscles around an old back injury that made a huge difference. I have neglected injuries for years and as a result have some irreversible damage but they have removed a large chunk of the pain from daily life for me. I was most impressed though when one day while working on my legs , Scott told me to go and see a doctor immediately and refused to work on me further. He said that my calfs were pooling. I went to the doctor and right enough I had a heart arrhythmia. I ended up having minor surgery and I am now able to resume treatment. Believe me when I say , these are the most knowledgeable massage therapists / physios that I have worked with and that includes professional sports.

Nora is a miracle worker. I first went to see her because I had a hip injury and wasn't able to continue my training for a marathon. Nora had me back on my feet in no time! She worked out the pain in my hip (which no one else was able to do). That was a year ago and I have continued to see her on a regular basis. I love to run but I do not do any cross training, don't take yoga, etc., but I do visit Nora. I continue to run injury free and I owe it to her!

Brian is amazing. I have been battling a running injury for over a year and a half, and he has taken me from having to use the scooter cart at Safeway to walking 12 blocks to the farmer's market and back. As other reviewers have said, this is not a spa -- It has all the comforts of one, but without the froof. Psoas is about comprehensive healing. Brian has used at least four different types of massage during my two months of treatment with him, and, more importantly, has helped to guide me through the process, letting me know what obstacles might come up and how to deal with them. Brian is a HEALER, and more than just physically. Brian is helping me tackle the larger issues that have prolonged my injury -- his bodywork is improving my life in so many ways. Best of all, he is incredibly flexible and works my schedule -- now he's even offering treatments on Sundays!

Scott is fantastic. After as few as three sessions I felt more pain relief for my chronic back problems than I had in years of physical therapy and chiropractic care combined. I can't tell you what a profound difference this has made for me, the relief is something I had all but given up on. Scott is a very talented individual, a healer and just a very nice guy.

Jenny is phenomenal. I pulled my hamstring two years ago and she is the only person who has been able to provide some relief - including physical therapists, massage therapists, and acupuncturists. In addition to being incredibly knowledgeable and intuitive, Jenny is diligent about learning new techniques and applying them when appropriate. She is also clearly dedicated to her clients. Someone like Jenny is a rare find and I feel lucky to have found her!

I've been to many different massage therapists and body workers, in different states and even countries and Psoas is among the very best. Scott has been my therapist and he is amazing. He has tremendous knowledge of muscle, joint and bone groups and their interactions. While most massages are simply relaxing and a form of stress relief, psoas goes beyond: they can improve your physical health, recover from injuries, deal with chronic ailments and reach fitness goals. Without exeggeration, they can change yoiur life.

I recently got a massage from Nora at Psoas Massage and Bodywork and it was GREAT!!!! I also sent my friend there that was also pregnant and she loved it as well....very accurate work. We are also both very athletic and had a hard time finding someone that knew the muscles and how to get into them appropriately. Must Try!

Massage at PSOAS is completely personalized. I had several massage sessions with Scott. Each time he first examines my body, my posture to get a sense of how I have been using my body; then he asks me about how I feel, most recent physical habits. He works on my body and each time I get a different combination of deep tissue, strecthing and relaxation techniques - tailored to precisely what I need on that day. After each massage, I walk away feeling great.

In addition to the massage, Scott pointed out how by adjusting my posture slightly I can avoid some of the chronic back pain I have. And it works... Since taking up on his advice, my back feels so much better!!!

This is not a spa! So no incenses, no lush colors, no new age music... But it IS all about your body.

You have to go!

Scott is amazing - he really understands the anatomy, the different ways a problem can manifest itself and he knows lots of treatment modalities. He is helping me regain my range of motion in my shoulder -- 30 sessions of PT didn't help as much as a few sessions with Scott! He is very professional, and committed to helping you heal.

I went to PSOAS for chronic hip pain. Jenny's careful work has significantly reduced the amount of pain and the frequency of its reccurrence. She has also treated a painful arm injury, and I am now pain free back to my regular yoga practice.
Her knowledge of and skill with different massage and bodywork techniques give me confidence in her ability to treat the body in a way that will help it safely heal.
Highly, highly recommended.

Selfishly I almost don't want to tell everyone how talented Scott Schwartz is. But I can't help it. I tell everybody. I started seeing Scott last summer while training for my first ultramarathon. I went into the session with legs that felt heavy and spent. When I left, my legs felt lighter and more energized than they had in months. It's as if Scott has a secret map to my body's deep (and budding) trouble spots. His knowledge of physiology is truly insane and his intuition is incredible--he's as much mind reader as muscle reader. He's also genuine, thoughtful, and hilarious. And just immensely talented. If there were some sort of international contest for muscle/tendon geniuses, he'd be my pick for top prize. Having trained for so many races without the gift of Psoas, I can say I'll never train again without it. I'm now running better than ever.

Each time I complained to my friend about my shoulder and back pain, she recommended for me to go see Scott. I had so many excuses, but when I finally went, I knew I shouldn't have waited!! Scott has improved my quality of life. He is incredibly knowledgeable about anatomy/physiology, tailors each session to work on particular ailments, and is also just a pleasure to be around. Furthermore, every time I've had an issue, he has helped me, even when it's over the phone. I am so lucky to have his services!!

I am so psyched to have found Nora at PSOAS. I am on the constant search for a therapist who can go deep and focus on my specific areas of tightness. Finally, I have found someone who can loosen up my lower back and keep me in the game. I am a cyclist and a swimmer, and Nora goes straight to my tension. Her experienced hands, pleasant personality, and the perfect location of the PSOAS studio have got me hooked. I am a permanent client.

I have been diagnosed with scoliosis many years ago and have had chronic neck and back pain ever since. I have tried many different types of massage but nothing seemed to help. Then a friend recommended Jenny at PSOAS. After only one session I could feel the difference. Jenny was able to locate where the tension in my body was coming from and focused on these problem areas. The massages have helped so much with the tightness in my neck and back and they even have a lasting effect, too. I highly recommend Jenny!

I relocated here from New York City back in March. During the move, I think I pulled a muscle in my upper back and was in pretty bad shape.

I called PSOAS on my wifes recommendation. I spoke with Jennifer and told her my problem. That particular day I was in pretty bad shape and I was hoping for something that week. I nearly fell out of my chair when she said she would try to move her schedule around to fit me in that day.

She did and three hours later I was on the table having her not only dig into my back, but also stretching me out. While I think the former felt good and relieved some pain, Im convinced it was the latter that really helped me begin to heal.

PSOAS emphasis on stretching is what keeps me coming back. These guys know what theyre doing.

Jenny and her team are outstanding at bodywork. They aren't a salon. They aren't a spa. They are a massage and bodywork studio that understands what it takes to be well. As an athlete, I understand that the price of physical performance comes with the potential cost of injury and repair. Putting time and money into your body is a worthwhile investment. I am happy to refer Jenny and her team to everyone I know!

I went to Psoas with recurring sciatic pain that often made it difficult to stand for any length of time - Jenny and Scott knew just what to do - rather than just rubbing my back, they did deep work on my psoas and other muscles. After 6 weekly sessions, I've been pain free for 5 months - now we're working on loosening up some of the other trouble spots. I've seen lots of massage therapists and these guys are definitely two of the very best! Because Psoas is owned by the therapists who work there, they seem to care just that little bit more about the results they achieve.

I had the opportunity to work with Nora who is new to the studio. For the initial massage she did a thorough check noting that the next time we should focus on the upper half of my body. Later on I had neck pain and so had session 2, using her suggestions. When it ended she said to come in two more times closer together. I was suspicious, but went a 3rd time. When I walked in I told her I wouldn't be able to come again- to expense. I was blown away. She focused on the issue at hand, responded to my financial needs with respect. At the end of the final session she gave tips on keeping my neck happy.

Nora is a solid massage therapist: compassionate, professional, knowledgeable, not pushy, suggests physical therapy when better suited, and works with at your level to make you feel healthier.

Psoas is incredible! I started going for back pain when I was training for the Ironman. Sara took the time to listen to my problem and then displayed incredible knowledge as she worked out the pressure points and muscle tension. Her treatment made a real difference in my training, and I now consider massage a necessary part of my training regimen. Beyond the massage, Sara also gave me many pointers to prevent the pain from starting. I manage a local triathlon team and refer all of my participants to Psoas. You can't go wrong with these guys!

First, Scott scrutinazed my posture. Next, he pointed out several facts (see how your left hip is higher?... look in the mirror here... notice how your left shoulder is raised?) finally, he made several suggestions as to better "ergonomic set ups" for my work space, as he worked out every last bit of stress my poor, aching body could hold on to. This is no BACK RUB, kids; this is THERAPY! I walked out feeling pounds lighter and with a bounce back in my step.

The environment is not a luxurious spa feel, rather a down-to-earth well crafted office/lounge, replete with nice local art work. The best part (aside from the total heavenly massage) was the music... none of that tired new age blather, but instead, I was relaxed and energized by Zero 7, Iron & Wine, etc. (Nice playlist guys.)

I run a few times a week and stand on my feet quite a bit for work, so I went in to my massage with Jenny with more than a few "issues". During our session, she not only found the source of my discomfort but released it with her amazing trigger point massage. It felt like the pain was diffusing from within the muscle rather than from the outside. It was awesome and I felt great afterward. Jenny walked me through some beneficial stretches to target those muscles so I can work on them
in between sessions. I highly recommend Jenny for your next bodywork session.

My physical therapist recommended Sara after I was hit by a car. Sara's treatments have brought me from barely being able to sit or turn my head to full recovery. "Massage" doesn't do her bodywork justice. I've been massaged at Claremont, Silverado, Ojai Valley, Murietta Hot Springs, Chaminade, but Sara's touch is entirely different. She has an intuitive feel and uses specialized techniques to address specific body issues. No smelly oils or generic full body massage, just unscented cream that won't stain and individually tailored sessions.

Psoas is within walking distance of the financial district with hand-painted walls and rotating art. Psoas is not a spa for lounging in robes drinking cucumber water with massages that smell good but have few body benefits. Sara cares about making you feel better, noting techniques your muscles respond to, your problem areas, and recommending stretches to minimize pain between sessions. Worth every penny.

This place is AWESOME. My wife treated me to a massage here and it was terrific. Ken made me feel very comfortable and asked me if I had any particular problem areas. Not really, so he just went to work from my scalp to my feet. Very professional, very skilled and strong without being painful. After the massage, he gave me a quick little exercise I can do on my own to keep my back from tightening up. Very helpful. The ONLY drawback for me was that the walls seemed a tad thin and I could hear muffled voices and doors in the hall.

Working with Jenny at PSOAS is an entirely different experience from most massage. Of course, she does excellent bodywork - manipulating, stretching and moving my muscles and joints in ways that increase range of motion and overall performance. But Jenny also works with you. She often shows me new stretches or exercises that help work my specific areas of inflexibility or stiffness. What impresses me most about Jenny is that she is really interested in being a partner in my training regime. She consistently remembers what issues I am having from session to session and will focus on working the areas she knows need the most attention. Jenny is very interactive. She constantly seeks feedback and refines her technique to match what works best for my body. Jenny has definitely helped me to reach a new level in my personal fitness.

For years I've been trying different methods to address my chronic neck/shoulder pain. I would generally end up at the chiropractor after waking up and not being able to turn my neck. This cycle continued until I was introduced to Scott. Although I refer to my appointments as massages, they are much more than that. We do seated work in which I am an active participant, he educates me about stretches and exercise, and his deep tissue work is phenomenal. Since my first visit to Scott, my pain has decreased dramatically. He has an uncanny ability to zone in on my problematic areas and I have never left a session not feeling better. Oh, and did I mention Scott has a great personality and a fantastic sense of humor?!

I highly recommend Psoas Massage and Bodyworks for anyone seeking therapeutic, attentive and highly skilled bodywork.

I am a martial artist and have had pain for the past twenty years. The aches in my calves, feet, abdomen, and shoulders made it difficult to even get out of a car. It has been about a year since I started actively pursuing treatment to resolve these issues and was fortunate to find PSOAS.

Sara's skill and knowledge has helped me immensely. With a combination of muscle work, stretching, breaking up adhesions, exercises and hydrating my muscles, I am a different person! I am feeling a hundred times better.

I am from San Jose, so every session at PSOAS is a 3 hour, 100 mile trip for me. I have tried many local CMT's and have been considered by many to be a tough case, but am having the best results with Sara; definitely worth the drive up. Thanks!

"Massage is an invaluable tool for the adventure racer during both training and most importantly after a race. I am certifiably the most inflexible person known to massaging hands...until Jenny! I have been to many "massages in box" or ultra therapeutic/aromatherapy circuses; this was different. Jenny was the first person to figure out how I became a literal "muscle knot". She focuses on what really hurts and knows how muscles are interconnected. I couldn't believe that somebody actually took the time to stretch me out prior to giving me a massage! I feel dramatic recovery results after each visit. Specifically, my range of motion and power have increased dramatically leading to fewer aches, pains, and cramps while racing. The sessions are effective because she listens and learns. I need a massage without the flowing water fountains and scented candles; I look no further. Thanks Jenny."

I brought my aching dad to PSOAS for a massage as a birthday gift. He's an extremely tough critic and has had many massages elsewhere. However, after his 1 hour session with Jenny, he couldn't stop raving about it! Jenny was friendly & knowledgeable, & she put my dad at ease. He loved how she catered to his individual needs, unlike most massage therapists who pretty much give all of their customers the same routine massage. My dad's pain melted away & he felt relaxed for the first time in weeks. Moreover, the massage was an amazing value; I've paid twice as much at day spas for massages that were half as good. PSOAS boasts a return rate of over 90%, & rightly so... My dad's already planning on scheduling another session!

After over 10 years of recurring hamstring problems including a tear, I started seeing Scott. In about 2 months the tear was healed and I could start running again. My flexibility is better than it has been in years, and my speed is coming back! His knowledge and care for his clients make him a unique massage therapist. Highly recommend him!

I'm 54 and have had a very physical lifestyle. While I was still active, chronic problems held me back like runner's leg problems, a weak lower back, pinched nerves in my arms and neck and tense shoulders.

Scott Schwartz has a remarkable knowledge of the body and its interdependencies. This knowledge combined with therapeutic massage work has gotten me back into the game. My strength has returned. I'm confident. Pain is gone.

He has also provided me with the tools to remain mobile, flexible and injury-free on my own.

I recommended Scott to a friend and he too has experienced a significant reduction in pain and swelling and a return to normal activities.

The craniosacral massage by Sara helped me unwind after a stressfull period at work.

These people provide the best value for the dollar in my book.

Over the years, a number of massage therapists, physical therapists, doctors, and other professionals have treated me for repetitive strain injury. But no one has been more effective than Scott Schwartz in alleviating my pain and helping me heal. What sets Scott apart is his desire to constantly broaden his knowledge of anatomy, his eagerness to find new approaches to achieve better results, and his deep empathy. Scott is much more than a massage therapist. He is your advocate, your counselor, and most of all, your friend. -- James A. Martin, writer

I went to see Scott with a repetitive strain injury from too much computer work. Within 4 sessions I was feeling much better and able to participate in my regular activities. And I could sleep at night which was impossible before seeing Scott.

I spend about 4 days a week playing and training for ultimate frisbee. In the middle of the summer my body starts to tighten up, specifically my IT band. At first I tried to stretch on my own and play through the pain, but I quickly realized I needed professional bodywork. Jenny knew exactly the kind of work that I needed for my active lifestyle. Jenny provided me with instant and longer term relief from my ailment. Come July I know exactly who I need to visit for preventetive measures and relief. The practice is extremely professional and effective, in an incredibly comfortable and soothing environment.

His great attitude and professional demeanor make it easy to relax and the trigger point work we've done has almost totally eradicated my pain!

I am an avid triathlete and compete in 4-5 races each year. I have been receiving massage for 10 years and was very happy to have found Jennifer Ligthstone at PSOAS. I was having a hard time finding someone in SF who is a great therapist with an office (I don't like going to peoples homes), for a reasonable rate. Since she is a triathlete herself she knows what my body is feeling like after a 60 mile bike-ride. Her touch is sensitive, confident, and incredibly soothing. I would highly recommend Jenny to any athlete.

Scott Schwartz of PSOAS genuinely cares about improving his patients' well being. I am an active athlete, had chronic Achilles tendinitis in both ankles. I began seeing Scott once a week in January and undergoing a combination of deep tissue massage, ice and a unique series of stretches, which no other therapist had recommended. I felt a 100% improvement after a few weeks of treatments.

I have spent money on other specialists for an assortment of running and other injuries and for my wellness Scott is the best sports massage specialist in San Francisco, bar none.

I met Scott Schwartz of Psoas Massage and Bodywork at a baseball tournament at the University of Massachuttes and I want to thank Scott for helping me relieve a nagging chronic and painful injury. After one 1/2-hour session, Scott alleviated a sharp and debilitating pain in my right forearm and elbow. Within 15 minutes after our session I was able to pitch 9 painless and scorless innings of baseball when just an hour earlier I was unable to throw at all. I must admit that initiallty, I was sceptical that anything could help the pain I have suffered since highschool, but I am now a believer and it feels great to throw again. I only wish I found his help years ago. Thanks again!

I highly recommend PSOAS massage studio. They go beyond your basic massage. Jenny worked on me and her knowledge of anatomy and muscle groups could put some doctors to shame. She knew every thing wrong with me and where to find problem areas. My first visit was a well spent hour massage and I am now a weekly client.

I own a fitness studio in San Franciso and frequently refer my clients to PSOAS. My clients expect a high level of skill and professionalism and PSOAS always delivers. In my opinion, their services are underpriced, but I'm not complaining. This means extra value for my clients.

i went to scott for the first time when i was pregnant. he gave me a full body massage for general soreness and worked my muscles in ways that i had never experienced before. he seemed to master the fine balance of creating a relaxing effect while targeting deep tension. on another occasion i returned to scott because i had complete neck stiffness with limited range of movement. he spent about 45 minutes on my neck and shoulder area and by the next morning i had complete range of movement and overall relaxation. scott is attuned to your needs, skilled, professional and provides a wonderful massage experience.

A friend recommended Scott to me after I threw my neck out. I literally couldnt drive; the pain kept me up at night and could barely last a full day at work. I had gone to Kaiser and all they could offer me were some prescriptions but nothing to deal with the actual cause of why my neck kept going out. Within two sessions with Scott, I had regained almost 100% mobility in my neck and the pain disappeared. A few sessions later, he had fully explained to me the overall factors causing my neck to go out and had given me a solid regime of stretches to ensure it wouldnt happen to me again. Scott has improved my quality of life, no question about it, I very highly recommend him.
